I was in LV during Jan for CES, so I planned a side trip to Zion afterwards. Fortunately, I scored on the day-before lottery for AL permit. Winter is off season with no bus shuttle so we get to drive into the park. Less hikers so less chances of needing to deal with impatient hikers to pass me at narrow places. Also I was thankful there were no snow/ice since I did not bring chains for my shoes. In fact, I was loving the grippy sandstones against my shoe. This is a short hike, 2.5 miles one way. Elevation gain is only 1500 ft. But it's technically challenging because you need good balance skills to get through the side slope sections with no rails. Another challenge I faced was the strong gusty winds. I actually saw a vortex touch down at one point. As I bypassed some of the scary edges, I thought to myself, why would the park construct such a steep trail up to the cliff of a narrow mountain? What were they thinking? Maybe they wanted to gift future generations with this exhilarating journey of a difficult hike.
Likes: + Great bucketlistie. Fantastic experience marveling at the handiworks of nature and man. Nature being the beautiful giant rocks of Zion. Man being the decently designed paths with chains to allow humans to traverse the switchbacks and heights of the Grotto Trail in order to safely summit Angel's Landing. + Friendly park rangers checking for permits right before the chains section. Remember to pack extra ice water, hat, and sunblock. Plenty of heat out there and limited shade. Non-likes: - Overhyped. Many people raved about the height extremities of this challenge, how it's not for the faint of heart. Well, I bagged it just fine, no real anxiety. - Low quality restrooms. No running water or hand sanitizer to wash your hands. - At one brief moment along the chains part, the path wasn't clearly marked. I almost went a dangerous way where I could've fallen off the cliff to my death, very confused. A little bit better path marking would be nice. - Despite the permit system, the overall hike was quite crowded. Often had to shoulder past people on the chains section. Thankfully, a little patience and politeness goes a long way though.
I applied lottery the day before for Thursday in early Nov. not a lot of hikers on the route and less traffics. My permit is before 9:00 AM. The route is very challenging but lots of chains along the route. It's worth the hike, experience and the view. Would love to do that again. For lottery : recreation.gov
Angels' Landing is the most challenging and fun trail I have ever done. I highly recommend bringing gloves for the chain sections and don't forget to visit the website to obtain a permit the day before the hike. There is a lot of incline for the first three miles; I didn't bring my hiking poles, but I would definitely bring them next time just to provide a little protection for my knees. The view is truly epic. We went when it was about to rain, and the weather was perfect. I will definitely come back again!
The perfect hike! About 4.5 miles round trip...strenuous but not too strenuous...AMAZING VIEWS. Summer gets crowded/hot and can cause jaded feelings. I recommend going in the winter and starting your hike 7:30am or earlier. If you catch the snow, it's the most beautiful winter hike! 10/10 would recommend.
If you aren't scared of heights and have the courage to take on this challenge, do it! But don't take it lightly, it is one of the most difficult hikes in the US. It's 5.4 miles round-trip including the initial part of the trail to Scouts Lookout. You will gain 1,488 feet in elevation with the final ascent to Angel's Landing being 1,000 on its own. The views are breathtaking from every step of the hike, especially from the summit. If there wasn't a storm coming, I think we would have stayed up there longer.
I'm afraid of heights and I still took the challenge. Prior to arriving at the starting point, I told myself to simplify backoff if it got too intense. With that mentality, it tremendously helped. No anxiety build up. Many hikers turned back while I was heading up there. That was discouraging, but I kept pushing myself because mentally I could. Like most say, hold on those chains when they are available. It's the sandy rocks that can make you slip. Also, bring something warm because once you are up there it can get quite cold. It was late October so that was expected. As far as fatalities, it made me wonder about the reasons behind it. I honestly don't know. If I were to guess, it probably had to do with not primarily focusing on the hike itself. I rarely took snap shots because of this reason. I only took out my phone in spaced out areas. Perhaps weather can be a factor as well. As a person who is afraid of heights and made it through to the end means you can possibly do it too. Decide when you are actually there is my advice.
What an experience this was. Takes about an hour or an hour and a half depending on you are with up hill hikes. Views are phenomenal and breathtaking. Even though I am scared of heights, I still managed to conquer my fear by hiking Angels Landing. Note that you will need to have a permit for this and in order to get a permit you will need to register for a lotto pick the day before your visit only, you will be notified in the evening of the day you registered so make sure you do it early morning.
The lottery system to do this hike starts March 2022, so if you want to do this hike on your own without restrictions, now is the time! For those who don't know much about Angel's Landing, this hike is often ranked as one of the most dangerous AND the one of the most beautiful hikes in the U.S. The "dangerous" part comes into play during the last half-mile of the hike, where you cling precariously to chains as you ascend a rock fin high, high above the canyon floor. Fatalities occur here every year -- two this year, in fact. However, hundreds complete the hike every day, so numbers-wise the odds are in your favor. Just take it slow and steady. And give the last half-mile a miss if you have young kids with you, a serious fear of heights, or do not like technical hikes (ropes/chains/etc.) This hike has chains and plenty of 'em. For my part, I've been hiking in the Washington mountains all summer so the first two miles of this hike were surprisingly easy. There are a ton of switchbacks, but they are tight little corkscrew-type switchbacks that did not bother me much at all. I took a few "photo breaks" (really breather breaks, haha) and other than that was fine. I was up at Scout's Landing in no time. Scout's Landing is where you decide if you want to continue onto the chains or not. To be honest, the view from here and up to here is breathtaking, and it's not all that much more amazing at the top of Angel's Landing. I really feel people do the chains section to the top of Angel's Landing for the thrill, experience, and satisfaction of it, rather than having THAT much better of a view than what they've already seen. So, if you're looking for an amazing view and are worried about the chains, just stop here -- there's absolutely no shame in it and it's not worth stressing out about because you already have a great view. I've also read Observation Point has a very similar view to Angel's Landing and is a much wider, safer trail, but I haven't done it yet. So if you're stressing, skip the chains and do that one for a great view too. The chains section itself was pretty nerve-wracking to me, especially on the descent, but I made it through. Twice I lost my footing, once in a dangerous spot and once in a not-so-dangerous spot. Both times the chains were there to save me. But the chains are not always there -- there is a chainless section right at the start, a couple of times briefly in the middle, and again at the summit where you walk straight across slanted rock to the end. The chainless sections freaked me out more than anything. I hunkered down to make my center of mass very low to the ground to avoid slips and trips (physics, yo!) and even scooted down on my butt a few times (no shame). And I survived, and even had a little fun doing so...but I'd also be perfectly happy to never do that chains section again in my life. Logistics of hiking in the afternoon: I did the hike this afternoon, a Wednesday, starting about 2:45pm to avoid the crowds. This turned out to be a wonderful idea because it was not at all crowded. Everyone likes to start SUPER early and just get it done with, but waiting until late afternoon was much better for me because I could a) sleep in late and not worry about how lack of sleep would affect my judgment up there, and b) not stress out about having too many people passing me on the chains (which is when deadly falls may occur). Also, descending at dusk means you have a good chance for some wildlife sightings. We saw mule-eared deer, a gray fox, and a small tarantula. The downsides to a late afternoon start: 1) You need to be able to be off the chains section well before dark, for obvious safety reasons. 2) You need to make it off the trail in time to catch the last shuttle bus out of the canyon. The times vary depending on the season. Today it was 7:15pm, and I was (luckily) done with the hike around 6:45pm. If you miss the last shuttle, it's a long 8ish mile walk back to the visitor center...in the dark!! Some people also rent bikes so they can stay later on the trail and not stress out about missing the last shuttle bus. 3) The lighting is not great for photography in either the very early morning or late afternoon. Most of the canyon floor will be dark due to the position of the sun. I didn't get any of those "Insta-worthy" photos as you can see, but the scenery is still beautiful -- just not ideal for photography. Once the lottery comes into place in March 2022, I'm not sure how my tips above will apply, if they'll let you select your start time or what. But we'll see!
Oh my gosh what an incredible experience! Went to Zion national Park on vacation and had heard about the infamous Angels Landing prior to going on the trip. Definitely did our research and understood the risks involved with doing this hike as there have been many accidents that have occurred on it. My parents decided to stay behind but decided to try the hike with my fiancé and sister and brother-in-law. Let me tell you the trail to get up to the chains was very very tiring. By the time we even got to the difficult part of the hike we were already extremely winded but we knew we had to press forward. We started on the chains and made it to what is known as decision point. My fiancé and I made the executive decision not to complete the entire hike because he did not have proper hiking gear (shoes). My sister and brother-in-law pressed forward and went about 90% of the way before they turned around and made the trek back. We are all extremely pleased with the amount of the hike that we did and definitely look forward to visiting Zion again in the future!
Did this hike during the off season in December, you definitely need micro spikes for your boots as the trail becomes snowy and icy towards the summit. Would not recommend on days where it is actively snowing or raining. Overall, Angel's Landing was one of the most intense but rewarding hikes I've ever done. Highly recommend! While it's only about 5 miles round trip, once you hit Scout's Lookout, it'll become 100x difficult as you need to climb up many narrow ridges and land bridges. I believe that starting March 2022 they will require a lottery system for the hike. 10/10 views, so scenic. I'll let the photos speak for themselves!

This is considered a difficult hike because of the inclination up with the chains to help guide you to the top. This hike wasn't as bad as I thought. You can go for the early hike for the sunrise of start at 8am and still make it to a nice gusty winds at the opening of the Angels Landing. Just know that the later you go the more crowded it will be There is just one way up and one way down. There are definitely stopping points for you to take a breather when going up in the switch backs. If you have bad knees or back just take your time. Kids all the way up to some elders hiked with success! Maybe some open toed Jesus looking shoes will relieve the toes smashing into the tops of your hiking shoes. This would be another hike to put on your list!! read more
Such a fun hike! Take the shuttle bus and listen for the stop for Angel's Landing. First part of the hike is a lot of switch-backs on steep incline, majorly working those glute muscles! Finally, you reach a flat sandy area, which is NOT the end! You have to climb up holding onto chains which are drilled into the side of the rock. Then, you have to climb on a SMALLER cliff ledge, holding onto those chains! The only part that I didn't like was that there's only one chain going up and down, so when you cross people, one person has to let go off the cliff!!! SCARY! Not for those with fear of heights. This is probably THE hike to do at Zion National Park (I don't consider The Narrows as a hike since its basically walking on the river). Angel's Landing is one of the best hikes I've done in my life. For those of you scared of heights (like me), conquer your fears! Angels Landing gets its name because its so high that only Angels could land on it. It is a very difficult, long and strenuous 5 mile hike. The first 3/4 of the way is uphill and definitely works out your legs and thighs. Once you reach the flat top, that's where the fun really begins. The last stretch is the most difficult part of the hike. You are literally holding on to chains to reach the top. The trail is narrow at times and a little sandy/slippery so wear shoes that have good grip. Also, there is only 1 chain so you have to share it with coming coming up and down on a narrow path so be careful! This is definitely an intense hike and it is a MUST do at Zion. If you are scared of heights, I recommend turning back once you reach the chain area since it is a little scary at first. read more
Tough? Yes! Steep? Yup! Worth it? Absolutely! Have completed this hike twice, once in the winter and once in the summer. Recommend you wake up early and head out to the trail in the early am to beat the majority of the crowd. Take lots of water and snacks for the way up. A walking stick is a lot of help. Steep, switchbacks, and last half mile is uphill one way with chains to help the climb. Don't look down if you're afraid of heights like myself and you'll be fine. The view at the top is amazing and soo worth it! read more
Too commercialized now :( the line looked like an amusement park line. It was also very stressful to get the shuttle tickets when they sold out within 2 minutes. (This is not required anymore due to park opening at full capacity- but now you have the lines). I guess I would also complain if the park was closed, so there might not be a happy medium. read more
Warning: This hike is a strenuous 2 miles straight up with lots of switch backs and the last 0.50 mile requires upper body strength used to climb and pull yourself up the chains. You will be using both hands while your pull yourself up or across the chains. It is extremely narrow up there. So pls be careful!!! If you are afraid of heights, I would think again or don't try to look down. Once you're on top, the weather is much cooler and breezy. But the view is breathless!!! This is the best and the highest view at Zion National Park!!! One of my fav hikes in Zion and I highly recommend checking it out! Total round trip is 5 miles and I would give yourself about 3-4 hrs, depending on your pace and if you going to have a picnic or enjoy the view at the top. Tips: - Bring at least 3-4 liters of water. - Wear plenty of sunscreen and bring a hat - Bring some snacks or food to e joy once you make it to the top. - hiking sticks are useful getting up, but make sure you bring a backpack to hold the sticks because you will need them. and requires lots of water, bring some snacks to enjoy once you're at the top.. read more
So this trail is basically the most popular one in the entire park and is considered quite difficult by many. Getting to to the trailhead is quite easy, just hop off the shuttle at the grotto stop and it's across the road. Although the trail really isn't that long, I'd use the provided bathrooms before heading up. In my opinion, the trail isn't really that bad or difficult. It's just that some people may find it hard going up the constant incline in the beginning and climbing across the sides of the cliffs towards the end. With that said, if you aren't used to hiking or afraid of heights, you might want to sit this one out. There are plenty of chains that you can grab on towards the end, but if you're afraid of heights, it's gonna be hard to overcome. Overall the trail is only about 5 miles round trip, so it won't really even take that long to complete. Once you get to the top, you'll realize very quickly that the trail is worth it. You can get some amazing beautiful views of the park. My suggestion to anyone who wants to experience this trail the best, is to get here super early. The path gets very crowded with people really fast and the heat towards the middle of the day really sucks because there's not much shade. Even though this is the most popular trail, it doesn't provide the best views, If you're looking for the best views, Observation Point is where you want to hike. read more

This trail is only 2.5 miles but you are in for a surprise! The 1st 2 miles everything is uphill, however is it totally worth it. The trail is full with awesome views. I do suggest starting this hike at 8 or 9 before it gets hot, also so you can get some shade. It took us about 3 hours to finish (round trip). We made stops along the way and ate some snacks when we reached the top. If you want to challenge yourself, you should definitely do this! read more

My husband and I booked a last minute trip to Zion and hiked Angel's Landing. The weekend of July 25th, the chain portion of Angel's Landing was closed for Covid-19 restrictions / social distancing but the view from Scouts lookout / the top before the chains was still worth it and breathtaking. The switchbacks a steep and a workout but the paved path makes it easier. read more
I remember doing this hike on my own last year when I went on a road trip to visit Utah's Mighty 5! The hike is short, but there are parts that can gas you out if you're not in shape. If you go during busy seasons, it can take even longer to get to the top since it's narrow and only one person can go at a time. The first time I went was in the summer of 2016 and it still took me less than 3 hours to complete the hike. I went again this year in May and it wasn't as busy. This time it took me 2 hours to complete. read more

It's a toss up for me whether this one or the Narrows is my favorite hike in Zion National Park. Angel's Landing is a hike you will never forget if you can do it! I thought I couldn't as I am somewhat fearful of heights (or of falling) but I overcame my fear and did this hike and am so glad I did. I was actually so scared when I got to the end I thought I would not be able to go back, but I just started to take in the beauty of the incredible views and somehow got the confidence to hike back down over to Walter's wiggle. From there it is easy. For me I prefer to go when it is cold out. The heat adds to my anxiety but the cooler temps keeps me calm I guess. I first did this hike 17 years ago in the month of April. This time I just did it this past weekend (January) in very cold temps. There was some ice in parts but not too much to where you could not move ahead. read more

If you don't have enough time to spend at Zion National Park. This trail has to be your top list of to do's. Two ways you can do this hike, one from The Grotto, which is about 5 mile round trip. Or you can book a ride with Zion Adventures and they will drop you off to the start of The West Rim Trail, which is roughly 15 miles, that will end up at Angel's Landing. You can't go wrong with either one. But I love the west rim trail because we didn't see any hikers on this trail until we got to Angel's Landing. Both trails are well maintained, not much splits in the trail, so you can't get lost. Some outside reviews note that the last portion where you climb up with the chains is pretty scary. Please ignore them. I read most of those type of reviews and I sort of scared myself wanting to do this. But I've decided I wanted to complete this hike off my bucket list. After doing this hike a few times now, I have to say, it's a fun hike and you must be doing something stupid to really get yourself in some serious trouble. Only winter time, I can see some danger if the trail is icy. All other seasons will be fine. I've even hike down the chains with one hand, the other holding my DSLR so I can take pictures. If you have to only hike one trail at Zion, it's a close tie between Angel's Landing or The Narrows. If Angel's Landing is not high enough, then check out Observation Point, which is 8 mile round trip and one of the highest point in the park which will look down at Angel's Landing. As always pack accordingly to the weather and be safe. read more

I am writing this on my bed since I am completely wiped out!!! OmG this trail is intense! It is rated as 'strenuous'. It says that you can complete it in about 5 hours but I was able to do it in 4ish. As someone who is not a pro hiker or in super good shape this was a tough one. I did complete it though! The trail is well paved but a bit rocky...so please take appropriate shoes. It was also a bit cold (I visited November) so appropriate attire is needed. The first 2 miles of the hike are paved and wide for a lot of people to walk. It does go uphill all the time...and I can feel it on my legs today. Once you get to the top, there is another section that you can go up to but it requieres you to hold to a chain because the cliff is super narrow. There are parts where you have to hold on for life! I would suggest taking gloves so that you can hold on without it hurting your hands. That section takes about 30-40 minutes to complete. It's not too long, but super technical. Even though it was hard and a bit dangerous a lot of people complete it. Do not do it if you are afraid of heights though!! Worth it? YES! read more

Angel's Landing is an amazing hike in Zion. It's about 5 miles round-trip and takes around 4 hours. The picture opportunities keep getting better the higher up you climb by the way! I feel like there at 4 distinct parts of the trail -- a pretty steady incline with dirt then paved paths (about an hour), a relatively flat part of the hike (about 20 minutes), the wiggles/switchbacks (21 total, they are pretty shirt switchbacks though, maybe 10 minutes), then you will get to a large flat area (Scout's Landing) before heading to the last part of the trail with the chains (about 30 minutes one-way), depends on the traffic/crowds. A lot of folks just go to Scout's Landing, which offers a great view. The climb up to Angel's Landing looks scarier than it actually is. Be healthily intimidated at how scary the climb is, but know that the view at the top is worth it! Everyone on the trail was super kind, and were willing to wait to let you pass all while offering encouragement and letting you know how far you had until the top. The chains are strong, and I would just have patience going up/down; don't try to rush and push past because that's how I think people slip and fall! The 360 view at the top is jaw-dropping and you feel like you are on top of the world. Angel's Landing is one of the most popular hikes in Zion, so start early if possible. The shuttle stop is #6 (Grotto) and I connected this hike to Emerald Pools which was a nice way to end the hike. Bring water and some snacks/lunch and be prepared for a leg workout plus epic views. read more
I've done this hike twice and both times it felt like I died on the way there and resurrected at the top (not even exaggerating) I love hiking, but I'm not the best with cardio. I highly recommend going with someone that isn't afraid of heights and will not annoy you with "you can do it" Bring lots of water, but not so much that your back hurts from carrying everything. An even better fix to the water is to go with a buff guy that'll just carry it for you, but I guess that only works for girls. I definitely recommend shoes with a good grip because some parts are kind of slippery. So this hike is known to be the hardest hike in Zion, but don't let that deter you! The beginning tricks you a little bit, but after you're 10 minutes in, it really starts to go uphill. The second time I went my friend wanted to give up when it got steep. There's a lot of switchbacks, which I feel like is one of the hardest parts because it really drains you. Do yourself a favor and don't ask anyone coming down how much longer you have. The chains look scary, but just stay close to them. There's always a lot of traffic around this area and I won't lie, I got really scared. The first time I went one of my friends decided not to continue on and she just waited for us. The most important part about this is don't feel rushed, even if there's a lot of people behind you. I literally almost fell the first time because I let people rush me. Most important: The view is 100% worth your struggle. read more

FIRST TIMERS GUIDE: i am a 5'3 Asian who is typically lazy and this hike was one that I was skeptical about because friends have told me it's about 5 hours round trip. That's a LONG time, but I think if you're in Utah & Zion for the first time, you should definitely do this. I will be going into detail for those who haven't done this before. First let's go with the advice before the actual experience: -bring snacks with sugar (not gummy words, but fruit bars, fruit snacks, trail mix) -better to bring more water than less, I would say bring 3 water bottles/person -BACKPACK: you are going to want to be hands free! -Apply sunscreen before you start the hike, you don't want your hands to be slippery when you're going up angels landing -shoes with a lot of tread. I wore Nikes & I was fine -GO EARLY - like 6-7am early. You'll thank me later -light windbreaker jacket -Hat -if you're gonna bring a GoPro, use the one that can strap to your body or backpack EXPERIENCE: (Length: 4 hours) This hike has everything, smooth grounds, flat areas, steep hills, dangerous edges, curved areas & of course CHAINS. Beginning - once you have passed the bridge, there's a sign that points to the right & its 2.5 miles. It's pretty smooth sailing that slowly gets steeper but not too bad, it's curves going uphill Middle - after you have passed a curved rest area where you are at a good height & take your picture breaks, it gets really steep. After the two steep areas, it will be a cool area and pretty much flat grounds with soft dirt. You THINK it's easy sailing from there but it's not. There's a "brown" area where it's a steep uphill criss-cross battle and that's the hardest part. End - take a slight break, enjoy the view, and make sure your hands are free afterwards. There's a sign that points to the right that says there is 0.5 miles left to the actual top of Angels Landing. You will be going up rocks with chains attached. Hold on tight to those so you don't fall off the edge. Once you have reached that top, you'll hit a big tree where you see an incredible view on the right hand side but the left hand side is a continuation of the hike. Now that's the hard part. That's where I had to contemplate whether I wanted to continue it and decided to do it. It's a lot of climbing, using your arms & legs and chain grabbing. So be careful and it's not a race, move slowly & take deep breaths. That's why you would want a GoPro strapped onto you so you are always hands free. Once you get to the top, continue to be careful! Breath in & take in that fresh air & inhale that Zion beauty. It's better than any HD picture. Take a snack break & be extra careful coming back down. It's way scarier than going up. Overall, come early! It was cool enough which made the hiking experience better. When we were coming down (around 10:30-11:00am), it was HOT. Sun beaming down and it was only 79 degrees. Avoid the hot sun & you still have time to enjoy other hikes & beauty of the park. Trust me, it's worth it! read more
Great hike! The trail starts with Walters Wiggles (21 switchbacks) up to Scouts Lookout. From there you get to enjoy heights to make it to Angels Landing. I did this hike alone, around 4pm on a random Tuesday in late June, and didn't think it was all that bad. I finished the hike in 2 hours, 45 minutes, spending about 15 minutes at the top. The good news about the time of day I went was there were only a handful of people around. A must do hike if you're in Zion! read more

This hike had some incredible views! Totally worth all of the switchbacks to get to the top. The first part of the hike is paved- enjoy it! The second part of the hike gets a little more hairy. You are single file up and back down the cliff edge. Do not take this hike if you are afraid of heights. I would start in the morning 10am or before. read more

This trail inside Zion National park is a strenuous level hiking trail. It goes up over 15,000 feet in elevation in about 2 1/2 miles. During our visit, most hikers including us were using the crampons to keep our selves from sliding due to ice on the trail. We did not make it to the very top due to the trail conditions but we definitely got close. We have a very active nine year old kid and she was able to do the trail with us without difficulty, however, she was wearing good hiking equipment (shoes and hiking sticks) so that helped. The pain of hiking was definitely worth-it. Will definitely try to climbed this trail again if given a chance. read more

If you make this hike you will literally be touching heaven. My girlfriend and I had the chance to explore this amazing beauty for Valentine's Day and we were so lucky that it had been raining the entire week. Now sadly you cannot hike some of the trails because they will be flooded but we still had the opportunity to hike Angels Landing. Now just a fair warning this is not an easy hike however if you have the willpower you should be able to accomplish it in any shape possible. Because of the rain the hike was extraordinarily slippery was just amplified it's danger. Soon it started sleeting. We contemplated turning back at the half way point but decided to risk the chains anyway to get to the top. I'm so glad we did because I can't imagine not having seen the beauty that we saw. If there is one hike you do before you die I would suggest this hike above any. read more
The views worth it (Walters wiggles) the view has got to be worth it (Walters wiggles) this has to end soon (Walters wiggles) If you have never done angels landing, just remember the name Walters wiggles, and yes the views at the top are SO worth it. The hike is considered strenuous with a 5 mile round trip. It was raining on the day I hiked angels landing and it was quite slick. Please come prepared with a decent pair of hiking shoes. Walters landing is a set of switch backs that everyone on here talks about. It's tough. It's steel. It seems like forever. But again, worth it. Bring plenty of water with you as you will need it. And also take some breaks. There is a ton of things people miss on the way up as they are in such a rush to get to the top. The views are amazing the entire way up. It gets very busy, and dangerous once you approach the chains. People become very impatient and rude, mostly because it makes some people nervous as you pass by each other on a very small trail at the top. Mostly I'd say go as early as possible or later in the day. And a kind word of advice to those who want to avoid the crowds. Observation point has the exact same views. Just higher vantage point than angels landing. You actually look down on it. read more

Amazing hike and worth it for the view! If you're someone who is not afraid of heights and wants to see an amazing view of Zion then this is a must! We started our hike at 10 am and finished in about 3 and a half hours total. Unfortunately it was rainy but I think less people came out due to the weather which was a blessing after hearing so much about starting the hike early to avoid crowds. The hike wasn't too hard physically but more because of the fact that you have to climb along the very narrow area (with chains) once you get past the first half of switchbacks. People are very impatient behind us to go up so we would just let them pass us since this is not a hike you would want to be carelessly running through, since you could fall easily off the edge. Other than that it's 100% worth it!! One thing I will say is you should invest in proper shoes such as hiking boots/shoes because in my opinion it came in handy. I was considering just wearing old tennis shoes but was so thankful I didn't. It can get slippery and especially with the rain we saw many people slipping going up and down and it was so scary. The chains are there to help but if you don't feel comfortable hiking it without the chain don't even try and go because the chains help but not really when someone grabs it behind you and makes it shake which will cause you to lose balance. Also- please do not bring your small children!!! It is very sketchy in some parts and not for kids at all unless your kid is some kind of pro child hiker. We saw a man bring a baby up there in his backpack which was just insane given how dangerous it could get. read more

You WILL run out of breath, you will need plenty of water and a good hiking shoes. Bring jacket it's hot going up because it's a work out but it will be cold on top and when you go down, especially now (may 2019). Take your time, stop if you need to, but keep going. I am very out of shape but i made it to the top, you can too! Use the restroom at the bus stop before you go up because the restroom on the top of angel's landing smelled so bad i had to hold my second pee until i get down to the bus stop lol. read more
I would give this a zero if I was rating the level of difficulty because this is not an easy hike!! Each time I do it I tell myself I'm not going to put myself through it again, but once I get to the top I realize why I've done it. It's so gorgeous! Views for days!! The only downfall is that it can be soooo busy once you get to Scouts Lookout on the way to the top of Angels Landing. Park rangers were handing out tickets the day that we planned to hike with 1 hour time slots in hopes that it wouldn't be so busy at the top, and am I ever glad they did. They turned away sooo many people up there that I can't imagine how anyone could do it safely. It is sheer drop offs on both sides in several of the tight areas. You constantly have to wait your turn for people to come down so that you can go up and vise versa. However, I love the feeling of accomplishment once it's done and the reward at the top is breathtaking!! Definitely do this hike read more
Such a beautiful hike. When they say that it is strenuous they are not lying. But the juice is worth the squeeze!!!! There are some amazing views to be had as you climb and that is before you get to the top. I would recommend that you start early as this is not a race to the top. The incline does get steep in some areas so pace yourself. The trail is paved most of the way until you get to the final section. As many people have stated the final section of the trail gets a little sketchy. By that I mean, you have major drop offs on either side of you and are sometimes holding onto a chain. Once again the top is worth the climb. Overall this hike is beautiful from top to bottom. Make sure that you have adequate hydration and snacks as you will need them. Very scenic, best panoramic view. Best hike so far. Less distance more thrill. After exhausting hike, i like to relax in the river flowing on the start point of the hike. Drink lots of water during summer season. Wear non slippery shoes. I don't recommend this hike during peak winters. Its too risky. U slip u go free fall. GoPro & Slr cam a must to capture the hike n beauty of the place. read more
Hiking Angel's Landing is more about guts than anything. Reaching the top of the rock formation that is Angel's Landing requires a somewhat treacherous hike along the rock cliff's edge. Yes, 6 people have died here since 2004, which I actually think isn't too bad considering the amount of people that come here. That doesn't stop people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels from attempting this hike. I saw so many kids, older adults, as well as really out of shape people! The first part of this hike is a rather boring hike up the West Rim trail. There is an interesting switchback section but the West Rim trail seems to be all paved, something I'm not a big fan of. Once you hit the Angel's Landing trail, you get to hike on a trail that is carved directly into the narrow rocks and that's when it starts getting intense. It's quite a trail building achievement and you have to see it to believe it! Most of the time you'll be hiking along the edge of the rock formation but there is a chain you can hold on to. But sharing the trail with people who are coming back down means you'll probably have to let go of the chain to go around some people although I did see a few scared souls who were holding on to the chains for dear life. There are breathtaking views in abundance along the hike on Angel's Landing trail and at the top. Even though the top of Angel's Landing is much lower than the surrounding canyon walls, the view is still quite majestic. This is definitely one of those special hikes that everyone should try once! read more

This was probably the best hike I've done in my life. I am really scared of heights so I would never expect myself to come here. However, since I am in Zion and Angel's Landing has so many great reviews, I decided to give myself a chance to conquer the fear. Until now, I am still proud of my decision! We took park free shuttle and got off at The Grotto's. Just follow the sign and you will have no problem find Angels Landing. While we were at shuttle, the shuttle news reported that 6 people died from Angel's Landing 2014 and scared the crap out of us. It started to snow a little when we started hiking so I was a little worried. Good thing the snow stopped after 10 minutes so the trail was not that wet and slippery. The view from the bottom to the top was spectacular. The trail was paved and wide. It is around 5 miles round trip. The beginning was mostly inclines and really kicked my ass. I sweat like crazy but meanwhile the view just got better and better the higher I hiked. Make sure to bring a lot of water because you will need them before reaching the top! People hiked there were super friendly, make sure to say hi to them while passing by them. The last 0.5 mile was the most scary and famous part, it is narrow and you will have to hold on the chain to go up to the top. Make sure you hold on the chain well like you are holding on your life! If you are scared of heights, think carefully before you do the last 0.5 mile. It was narrow and there's only one chain going up and down, so when you pass people, another person will have to stand near the cliff. Even its only 0.5 mile one way and 1 mile round trip, it could take a while because of the amount of people there. I was too scared to finish the chain part so I stopped at Scout's Lookout. My friends decided to kept going to the last part. There were a lot of people who didn't want to do the last part waiting for their friends/family too so I am sure you won't be bored if you decided to wait there. There are a lot of great spot to take pictures at Scout's Lookout. Just stand one the edge of Scout's Lookout already make me scared so I don't want to pass out on the way to top of Angel's Landing. I would highly suggest not to wear running shoes or regular sneakers because some part of the trail are slippery. Get a pair of hiking boos or shoes instead because you will need them. Also it got windy on top so bring some jackets. I also see some people bringing their kids. I am not sure if the last part of the hike was kid's friendly but just be careful when you bring kids to here! Despite of the craziness of the height, I had a great experience here and I am pretty proud of myself making it to the Scout's Lookout! read more
AWESOME HIKE!! The view from the top is unbeatable. The hike can be a little scary because you have to hold on to chains when going up the last part. There are people of all ages hiking so if you are in good enough shape you can definetly do the hike. I suggest waking up early and starting the hike very early because it gets crowded and it is scary when its crowded because only a single file line of people can walk towards the top and along the chains and you are on top of a cliff. Also, this is a very bad hike for people who are scared of heights. This hike is NOT dog or baby friendly. read more
My favorite hike in the park. Wow. I was absolutely amazed by it. Such incredible views and a unique experience. It definitely is not for the feign of heart! However you can still do the hike if you're afraid, and go just up until the scary ridge part. It doesn't get scary until there's about 0.5 mile to the very top, so those who are afraid can go up until that point and still get an amazing view of both sides of the valley. The scary part is more of a mental game than anything, but do use extreme caution. So glad we did it! read more
