I learned things I had never even thought about or considered even after eight years of being a cane user. Their breeding and training program is very professional, and the puppies are extremely well cared for. The facility where I stayed was top notch also... I would rank it up there with a fine hotel, from the rooms to the community areas used during downtime, to the dining. The meals alone would be welcomed at a Michelin star restaurant. I was also provided resources and contacts or any follow up needs I may have, and will definitely be coming back to Leader dogs when I do get my guide dog.

They are very dubious in what they say verses what they do. They are very good at public relations, but not good at client relations. I recommend steering clear of this organization. She took me through the procedure so well and answered my calls every time i called her, it was so comfortable to get in as a volunteer. Thanks to Ms.Bellie. I was at the Third Street, i volunteered to help in the Kitchen serving the Clients Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, also helped in Cleaning the vessels, stocking items, clearing stock etc., The Kitchen Specialist - James and Mike are very hardworking and sincere, they are very good in preparing the food and very kind and supportive. The Supervisor - Ms.Dukes is another very kind hearted and patient person i came across, she would make sure everything is in place and even speak to Clients if there were any concerns. She always had a word of appreciation for everyone who did their job. I could see the responsibility she would take, may be even mobing the floor i have seen her doing it without blaming anyone or any complaints. They also are available year-round (not sure on the times) for donation drop-offs. In the spring they focus on helping foster kids placing out of the program with items they will need for college or a place of their own, or guidance from helpful volunteers. This is a wonderful organization and I recommend looking into volunteering for them if you have the means.

I had been looking at the available kittens in the humane society's website for a week or 2 before I came and I noticed that it was best to go in early in the day. Prior to coming to this location, I went to the satellite location at Petco by Lakeside mall. As I had put my previous cat to sleep in early March and she had been a girl, I was there for boy kittens. The only kittens at that location were girl however the staff working the cat area were really helpful. I was informed that there were 2 boy kittens that would be available starting in an hour at the Detroit location. The staff told me to call the number on the sign immediately when I arrived in order to get in line. I was about 15 minutes early and when I called, they answered right away and put me in line. I was the 2nd person in for adoptions but the 1st person going for cats/kittens. The staff member that helped me with the adoption was so nice and helpful. She answered all of my questions and within about 30 minutes from when I walked in, I walked out with my new kitten Aiden. I recommend the humane society for adoption of cats and kittens.

They were to contact me with some issues I was having but I never heard from them. so at the exact 60 day mark (they give you 60 days to decide if you want to keep the dog) I got another email to see, once again, how it was going. Told them about my issues and they said I would get a call....once again, never called me. So now it's past the 60 days for a surrender and a refund. AND TRYING TO REACH THEM IS A BIG FAT JOKE!! 1 stinking number that is never answered...a receptionist at the,Detroit office even told me it would be a waste of time trying to call. And if you want to surrender the dog you need to make an appointment and there would be a $60 fee. On top of the $25 I paid to decide if I wanted the dog to begin with. They would have him on "hold" till I came back the next day....and it better be within 24 hours or you lose everything! All this for a Detroit alley dog. AND why do they guess the info about the dog? They gave me a birthdate (dog must have told them) and they said it would be a lap dog. Well it's at 40 pounds as of today.... you need a pretty big lap to hold that dog. We never had issues with mhs throughout the years and those were the best dogs we ever owned! Things sure have changed. I am sooooo disappointed in the whole process and the dog. Will never adopt from them again.

Volunteers come in and cook meals - dinner and some lunches - for the families who need to stay here to be close to their children who are in the Detroit Children's Hospital. Every staff member I met here was so kind. They have a great system where the families staying help clean as well. You are responsible for keeping your own room and bathroom clean as well as the kitchen, trash and other common areas. This really helps them keep the cost affordable for families in need. I strongly encourage anyone who is able to donate time, money, whatever you can really to do so to the RMH. They also save the tabs from the tops of soda cans to raise money and I definitely plan on saving mine to send to them. So Thank You RMH for caring about my family and providing a place to stay where we could be near my nephew in the DCH.
