Not Angie's anymore. I had such high hopes by the reviews. This place is a joke.it is 6pm on a Friday night. Apparently there was a "rush" before we got there (3 of the 4 seats were full of left over food and trash) the only seat left literally was falling apart. The waitress was ok. Not great not horrible. Mostly average to now a days. The Chips are Tostito rounds, the food is old and greasy. The salsa was the only thing that had any flavor and the average person would think it's wayyyyy to spicy. I covered all I ate with it since it was the only thing that had a taste besides greasy. Don't. Just don't. The bathrooms are unclean and smell like old man pee. Maybe go to shell and see if they have something to eat if you are starving. read more

A great place to eat after a long drive. Angie's give a hole-in-the-wall feel, especially with no one else dining in the restaurant. Pleasantly surprised that our food was really yummy! The serve complimentary chips & salsa, super spicy salsa but tasty!! Ordered the combination plate which came w/ 2 enchiladas, 2 tacos (specifically asked for brisket tacos based on reviews here), a flauta, rice & beans. Portions were enough to share between 2 people. OMG, this place is amaaaaazing. Randomly landed in Fort Hancock and wandered in here since it was the only place open, and enjoyed it so much that evening, that we returned the next morning for breakfast! It's a cinderblock box with a dingy peeling, diner interior. No big deal, it's on a border town and totally authentic mexican food as far as I can tell. What's amusing is that they don't serve beer, however they are cool with BYOB! lol. For dinner I had chili which was delish! Now I get what my local chili place in VA has listed on their menu as "Texas Chili". Lots of ground meat...hold on, we need more emphasis there. CHOCKED FULL of ground meat, just enough spice, some oil floating on the top, and just a party in your mouth and thankfully it's dinner for one since I didn't want to share. Breakfast was a loco burrito which was scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, refried beans, and some magic. Move aside McDonalds and your delish McSkillet Burrito, we have a new sheriff in town! :D Huge and savory. Love. That's what you taste in every bite. Salsa is spicy, but not so much that you can't eat it. It's fresh and I saw a nice big chunk of jalapeño pepper in it. I don't know what they put in their Supreme Burrito,but that red sauce is pretty amazing. I had Flautas, and kept dipñing them in my husband's leftover red sauce. So yummy. We stopped en route to Austin, and will no doubt come by again. It's small, but it feels like homely. The place is very small and cash only. We stopped in our way through Texas and were incredibly impressed with the food. It's very much "home cooked". It's a small "hole in the wall" place, but we loved it and will stop again. The salsa they bring for the table is fresh, tasty and a little spicy! I wish we could've gotten a jar of that for our trip. Definitely a highlight! Also for those traveling in a big rig, plenty of parking right behind the building. read more

This place was a good stop for dinner. We were greeted right away by the server, we were the only ones in the restaurant. They had a big menu of breakfast foods and Mexican food. We had the combination platter; 2 enchiladas, 2 tacos and a flauta. There were 2 different types of enchiladas, one was cheese and one with meat; good! The tacos were my favorite though. They were the brisket (we asked for them to be brisket tacos, I'm not sure if it usually comes with that) it was so good. They make their own tortillas here!! Yum!! read more

We stayed for a night in the hotel right across the street. Apparently they've been featured in National Geographic for their chicken fried steak. I believe it was back in 1991. Well, I had the chicken fried steak and it was good. The gravy tasted like a buttermilk biscuit. The green beans, I think were canned, but whatever. The chicken fried steak was good. And I liked the gravy. Though it was a tad unexpected. It tasted so much like a buttermilk biscuit. We had desert, and that was good too. I was pretty drunk at the time. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring in beer from the corner store if you'd like. I was disappointed to later realized that the chocolate cake I had from desert was sitting on the counter in the container that it came in from the store it was bought from (though the label was torn off so you couldn't see the store.) But we met Angie. And the salsa was good like the National Geographic article says (it's quoted in the menu). I also ate breakfast there the next morning. It was good as well. Had a Loco Breakfast Burrito. Some of the same locals that were in there the night before were in there for breakfast. This place was great. It's totally what I would've expected from a place that appeared as it did. Some good, down home, small town Texas cookin'. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I don't get out to this part of Texas much these days but this past September I was fortunate enough to be able to stop at Angie's for lunch. In the past I have always eaten the Mexican food because it is just so good and the gravy on them is incredible, rivals Mama Chole's in Leakey. But this time I wanted a chicken fried steak because that's what my buddy and my son were ordering. I however had to have an order of tacos to go with it. And salsa, well Angie's salsa anyway goes well with CFS and gravy. I wasn't disappointed the CFS is about as good as you're going to get but I had to give a taco away because there was no way I was finishing everything. Courteous, clean, good food, good hard working people I mean what more could a man want. Can't wait until I get to stop in again for Mexican food or CFS, Hell might as well get both and take with me what I can't eat there. read more

We went to our favorite spot in Van Horn TX but they were closed so up the road we go. My husband got on yelp and found Angie's and it sounded good so we stopped. Oh boy our we glad we did. The is best Mexican food that I have ever found, hands down! This little place is one of the best lil' holes in the wall that you'll find. I enjoy looking for little less known places for Mexican and BBQ and every rare once in a while, stumble across a place like this. Friendly and informal! The Mexican plate has a hand fried taco shell with ground beef. The Enchiladas are great and the Chile Rellino's are my favorite. I always gain weight when visiting El Paso. Enjoy life! read more

Well, there's great reception, a gas station, a diner-y, Mexican-y, cantina-y feel to this place. It's also playful, with the signs and fake money mixed with real money mounted on the wall and the fish. Unfortunately it's in a place that most people would only ever find on a long trip to/from El Paso. Unless you live in Fort Hancock. I don't. As with most other places, the nice lady said everything on the menu is good. I'm not sure how everything else on the menu is but the BLT and fries is good. Like freaking amazing for a BLT. Nice find if I do say so myself. Looks like even National Geographic sent out a team of explorers to locate this mystical place. According to their menu the magazine proclaimed there salsa second to none and I would have to agree. The food here is "la comida fue por excelencia" and is as real as homemade Tex-Mex can get. None of that over powering spicy dishes that one comes to expect and equates with Mexican food. My meal was totally flavorful you could just taste the love that went into making my dinner. I had the combo plate which was jammed with food for a ridiculous low price of $9.95 and consisted of two beef taco's on home made tortillas, Two enchilada one being cheese the other beef, rice, beans and a flauta. I would have to say though, I was here about 2 years ago and had there Brisket Burrito which was a memorable meal in itself. Although the beef I had tonight was really good. Stopped in for a bite to eat on our way home from California. Ordered a tuna sandwich with a side salad and a grilled cheese sandwich with fries. The food is very good but loses its appeal when the servers ignore you repeatedly. The owner of the restaurant should take some interest in how her customers are being treated. The waitresses have a bad attitude and they seem to wish they were somewhere else. They need to learn to respect and learn how to say "good morning" and "thank you".
