I was in the…read moreneighbourhood and the three towers that comprise this cathedral stood out from Woodbine Avenue. I had to take a look. The area is known as Cathedraltown because, well, there's a large cathedral. I never have set foot in it. Originally built as a Catholic cathedral, it was closed from the mid-2000's onwards. There was some issue with getting a public occupancy permit. I still think that it remains closed for worship. Last night, I was fetching food from Cafe Mozaiko, which is on the same street. You get a beautiful look at this cathedral at the end of the street from any business on this stretch. There were plenty of cars parked in front of this cathedral after I had fetched my takeout. I frankly don't think that they were worshipers. Many folks with fancy sports cars like to gather around it. I'm not sure whether it's a nice hangout for folks to chat about cars and admire rims, or if they are praying that their insurance rates don't go up astronomically. It isn't an area where you can do some illegal street racing, unless Woodbine Avenue is considered the chosen course. It is bendy, but I have never seen any crazy racing on it whenever I'm on it. It's too residential for such a setup. They cathedral is beautiful to admire from afar. However, how often it's maintained remains a mystery. It may be slowly deteriorating externally. I didn't hear any bells ringing from it. It's sad to see such a beautiful cathedral sitting there and not being used for its intended original purpose. (41)

If you get a chance to go visit, you will notice the exterior steps are badly damaged, marble stone floors are all cracked and chipped badly. Weed growing in between steps and and cracks... Walking up closely, you would think it is an abandoned Cathedral.

My cousin decided to convert to Catholicism in a quick one-two bang ceremony (Baptism, Communion and Confirmation). She asked me to be the photographer for the event and I couldn't say no (plus this would mark the first time I got to see a black woman get her hair wet!) Nouvelle-Alliance is incidentally my old high school and to support the French Catholic community in Barrie, they offer masses in the cafeteria every Sunday. I walked in and didn't burst into flames (like my dad had implied earlier). It was odd to see my 9th grade science teacher (who failed me) strumming on his guitar and singing a soulful serenade in his pretty falsetto voice. The mass was... well... mass-like with some new and improved changes. The wafer was (get this) whole wheat! And I thought the church wasn't progressive... When we got to the Confirmation part the priest explained that he had forgotten the oil and they would complete this part another day. At the end of the mass the priest changed his mind and drove home to pick up the oil and complete the holy trinity experience (that sounds like the title of a new Matrix film... or porn?!) All went well and my cousin is now a (willing) participant in the church of... wait they have holy water for sale?! Amazing! I bought some holy water for a bargain price of $0.94 (this is the price the priest paid for the little glass bottles) What does one do with holy water? I plan to use it... possibly on the next TTC employee that looses his shit!) Happy Easter everyone :-)
