Honestly, the only regret we have regarding ADA is that we didn't find it sooner. Shortly after starting here and experiencing the caliber of instruction they provide, our daughter was thrilled with the immediate improvements in her dancing. I was thrilled as well, but also a tad miffed at myself that we had wasted so much of her time/ our money for so long elsewhere. She had previously been commuting from Naperville to Chicago to a studio where she was treading water in a sea of talent. If you were not one of the top dancers in the room, you were lost. Under 1 of the instructors ( half of her time there), she only learned by listening to the corrections she gave to the "really good girls" (my daughter's words ). She loved it there, but we didn't know how much better things could be. When quarantine happened and commuting wasn't an option, we looked locally and found ADA; it was less expensive and so close to our home in Naperville and seemed too good to be true. As a nurse, I was nervous about her starting back in a studio full of kiddos huffing and puffing during Covid (pre-vaccine) but was amazed at the level of precautions in place. The studios at ADA are beautiful: spacious, new, and clean. They had thought of everything to keep the students safe and dancing back in the studio again rather than the sometimes necessary zoom dancing (which ADA also executed really well). Sherry Moray, the founder and Artistic Director, saw our daughter's potential but immediately recognized some habits she had developed that had never been corrected. Sherry quickly got to the root of problems that had been challenging our daughter for years, and she began to improve dramatically. Sherry, Irina, and Diana are amazing instructors who continued to fix the cracks in the foundation and challenge her in new ways, all in a manner that built her up. They believed in her, and that helped her to believe in herself. So much of succeeding in dance comes down to confidence, and that is what made the change exponential. ADA has a family/ community feel, and the staff was/ is truly invested in my daughters' best interests. Louise (Studio Manager and fellow dance mom) was amazing in helping our daughter navigate a new studio and the world of competitions. She's an incredible resource and a kind person. Sherry frequently checked in with our daughter regarding her future plans and what she thought would be best when it came to auditioning, etc. Their expertise was invaluable, but the staff's level of caring and investment was such a pleasant surprise and something which I believe to be a rarity. Our daughter has been dancing for 15 years, and we have experience with 4 different dance studios, never has she grown as much as she has in these past 2 years at ADA. So of course she loves to....Just Dance!…read more Every now and then I'll accompany my niece, Madelyn to her weekly Saturday morning dance class lasting about 45 minutes. About three teachers, eager teenage girls, lead this class of 3-4 year olds in basic but most importantly fun dance exercises. Teachers here are patient and truly take the time to make sure the kids are learning the proper forms while making it fun at the same time. My favorite part is to see my niece holding on to the bar bending into a plie with her frilly pink tutu. Parents are able to see their little ballerinas in action through a one sided mirror that looks in the dance studio. I definitely suggest arriving at least 5-10 minutes early so you get a good seat on the "viewing bench." Parents are typically not allowed into the class, but I've seen exceptions made for children with severe separation anxiety. As a parent, or even an aunt, it's easy to forget to bring this that or the other to class. Thankfully, both ballet and tap shoes are available at their gift shop for rental free of charge to children enrolled in classes. I cannot wait to attend the recital at the end of the class!

She began pre-ballet classes when she was three and now she is four and in the tap and ballet class. There is always more than one teacher and in the afternoon classes we had three teachers (which was great). The recital did not require overpriced costumes and it was broken into different age groups (3 recitals rather than one super long recital). We have had a very positive experience at this dance studio. Honestly any sport or activity before the age of four can be challenging for everyone and Miss Robin works hard to help the children and parents.

This is not the place for little ones!…read more My 2 1/2 year old was in the pre-ballet summer session and on the first day she started to cry when I left the room and was trying to leave. So, I brought her back to the circle and sat down with her. Ms. Robin yelled across the studio that I couldn't sit there and this is not a mommy and me class. She said I should let her cry and leave the room. However, every time I tried my daughter followed me and was able to open the door to come out. The teachers made zero effort to engage her or keep her in the studio. At that point Ms. Robin said I could sit in the corner with her and observe quietly. We sat and watched and still the teachers made no effort to include her in the class. They acted as if we were not there. After class Ms. Robin said not to worry and that some times it can take a whole session for them to get used to the class. The 2nd week it was more of the same. My daughter didn't want to participate and didn't want me to leave so we again watched from the side and were completely ignored by the teachers. Later that night Ms. Robin sent me an email saying that we can come to one more class but if my daughter cannot separate and stay in the class on her own we can't come to class and she will give me a partial refund. Never in my life have a heard of a 2 year old being kicked out of any recreational activity b/c of separation anxiety!

We found DancEncounter this year after my 2.5 year old twins wanted to try ballet. From day one both Ms. Tracy and Ms. Jeni were extremely patient as they transitioned into the class -despite tears and a learning curve when it came to class time without mom. The girls always arrived excited to see them and left class with a smile. We recently participated in the end-of-year show and beyond my personal experience with the school, I saw firsthand the ripple affect of this wonderful school on dozens of girls and boys of all ages and capabilities. Not only are the instructors talented, but it was obvious by watching this entertaining show that they not only foster and nurture the talents and passions of these kids, but provide a positive environment of encouragement, camaraderie and mentoring that is hard to find.
