Theater feels dingy, dark, dirty. Used to have an arts movie at least weekly, but not anymore.

Rarely today do you have experiences in any thing we do that reminds us of better days! The York classic cinema brings me back to going to movies with friends. Laughing, being able to enjoy the whole experience without any fighting, rudeness. The young people working in this theatre and really respectful, nice people. Treat you well and are very good at their jobs! The building itself is spotless! There is a real effort to keep it worthy of your time! Not one lazy uninterested employee! A miracle today! Bravo, well deserved! The seating is really big and comfortable! Like your at home but better your in a theatre enjoying a nice night out! My friend and I decided to see a movie and this was my first time at this movie theatre. This location is conveniently located in downtown Elmhurst. It is in the perfect spot because there are so many restaurants around within walking distance to have dinner and a movie. The prices are more reasonable than surrounding theaters and this location is just beautiful! I love how it is in an historic building and they haven't changed it. The theatre is clean and the seats are super comfy. They recline and have heated or cooling options. I love this movie theatre. It is truly a hidden gem! read more

What a cute little theatre! We were able to find parking not too far away and got to the movie in time to get popcorn (even their small popcorn was quite large, but reasonably priced and free refills!) and canned alcoholic drinks (yup - beer, wine, and cocktails all on the menu) prior to our showing. Because we were going to see Top Gun: Maverick, we got free posters upon entering (and we didn't have to wait in line for tickets, because we bought them online in advance including our seat selection.) I only go to move theaters that have reclining chairs these days, and they not only had that, but they also had heated seat options! (That was a new one for me - haven't seen that before.) The staff was incredibly kind, everything was clean, I enjoyed the overall movie experience and would definitely go back when I'm in town next! read more

This theatre is such a little gem. It's a small traditional theatre, but the screen is big and seats are very comfortable. The seats recline and are heated . Another perk is unlimited refills on drinks and popcorn. They also give mints at the end of the movie, so nice. I was disappointed to see that I could not get to the main section of seating with my group because there were a lot of steps. I use a walker and I am unable to do steps. I was able to sit down below in a very nice seat which was good but was glad the handicap section was not filled. Terrible experience...film went out many times. The movie was Oppenheimer. The manager apologized but the problem was never addressed during the film viewing itself. I truly doubt anyone working in the theater even was paying attention. Got a refund but refused the free pass. Won't go there again. read more

We got stranded in Chicago and with the break in the cold temps decided to venture out and catch a movie. This was the closest theater to our hotel (Holiday Inn Express) by ORD and we're so glad we came!! Off the bat we were excited as they still have the classic theater signage with lights & pizzazz. Matinee tickets are only $6.50 so honestly, can't be beat. Only stinker is that their lights didn't turn off right away when the movie started so I had to run out to the concessions and let them know before we could see the screen. Staff was super apologetic though and incredibly friendly. Another plus is it has an impeccable location with BWW across the street that offers a BOGO on a snack traditional wings which we DEFINITELY took advantage of :) woot woot! $5 Tuesdays! This is what lured my husband and I to watch the new Spiderman movie (excellent movie by the way). The entrance has bright lights reminding you of Hollywood glamor. All they need is someone to take your tickets outside. While this theater is considered a classic cinema, it has reserved seats with recliners. The seats are comfortable with lots of room and heating. The picture is good as well. It doesn't seem like many of the other classic cinemas I have gone to. It is definitely upscale. On Tues, it is only $5 and totally worth it. If you purchase tickets online though, take a screen shot or print out your final receipt. They were supposed to send our tickets to our email; however, they never came. Luckily, we were able to show them our screen shot and got in right away with no issues. I would definitely be back here... on a Tuesday. read more

We rented a theater at Classics Cinemas York in Elmhurst for a somewhat more significant event than what we would generally put on outside our centers. First, I live 2 blocks from here so I may be bias. I watched Rambo last blood in the second day of release without the insane crowds. (Though it was an early afternoon showing) The seats are very comfortable, modern, power reclining and heated. I love the convenience and downtown feel of this theater. I LOVE Classic Cinemas theatres! They have the best popcorn anywhere! They give free refills on ANY SIZE popcorn and drink. The theatres all have great character. The York has been remodeled since I was there and it looks great. The area where you purchase tickets gets very crowded and congested, though. The main complaint I have is that the theatre we were in was wide but there was only one entrance to the seats, so if you sat on the end you had to climb over A LOT of people to get out and get your free refills, and if you were on the end by the entrance to the aisle, people were frequently climbing over you and there isn't enough room so you have to stand up every time. That was frustrating and a little stressful- I wonder why it was designed that way. This is still an awesome theatre with great character, yummy movie treats and in a fun, hip location. read more

5 stars purely for their fabulous film selections! I love when they screen films relating to classic Hollywood. I've been here to see King of Jazz as well as Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. Furthermore, they've also screened films by local filmmakers. For example, an Elmhurst local filmmaker screened his film, My Country, here. My sister and I take our 97 year old mother to the movies every Tuesday. We always go to York theater. They have plenty of staff, the place is very clean,the staff is very friendly, great manager and AMAZING POPCORN! It has a ramp for disabled and very accessible for the handicapped. This the nicest Classic Cinemas and one of the best, if not the best movie theaters I've been to. I live closer to Lake theater, but make the trip to be at this nice, beautiful, clean theater. They have great movies showing, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Andy Bach the GM recently helped with a slight problem I had. I would recommend anyone check this place out. Straight honesty right here. York Theatre is my favorite movie theater to patronize. The fact that it's two blocks' walking distance from my work is just a bonus. I started coming here when I used to have to attend board meetings regularly at work. I'd hit the 5 p.m. show and be out in time for the meeting, no sweat. I'm not big on those ginormous megaplexes where you feel like you're walking into a warehouse to see a movie, with their gigantic lobbies and ground in popcorn, where there are 400 other people squeezed in like sardines. None of that occurs here. You walk in, and there are only two kiosk stations, plus the concession area. If they're not busy, you actually buy your tickets at the concession stand. I like how personal and intimate this feels. Then you walk into the theater and *gasp* the floors aren't sticky and the carpet isn't ground with popcorn or grease. They're CLEAN. That's awesome, and my shoes thank you. The auditoriums are beautiful, old-style with fancy lighting fixtures, gold trim and fancy mouldings. I can't even talk about it because I'm not educated in the finer things such as that, but it's beautiful. I feel like I'm seeing a show at the Chicago or Oriental Theatre downtown. And, this may be due to the fact that I always go on off nights, but they never feel crowded. And the seats are comfortable. Frankly, this isn't my most interesting review and I doubt I'll be marked FUNNY on this on, but if you're looking for honesty this is it. And if you're looking for a very nice theater to see a film at; this is it. read more

Wow, apparently I went on a Yelp vacation. Haven't written a review in ages. Nothing like butter-smothered popcorn to get a girl in action. I so enjoy the York theatre. I've never had any problems with the staff or with the sound quality or start time of a movie. I also always request extra extra butter on my popcorn and they happily comply. The bathrooms are clean, the decor fun, and the popcorn yummy. Have I mentioned I really like their popcorn? MMMMMM....popcorn. Droooool. Oh, right, the review. Go here, see movies, eat popcorn.
