The staff at AEC were very nice when I came in with my Bailey girl. Dr. Green went above and beyond to find out what was wrong with her, even though the result was not good. They took great care of our girl even in her aftercare. She came back to us in less than a week and everything was so beautiful. I took my dog here after he ate a pound and a half of rendered beef fat that was sitting on the counter. At first before we took him in my husband called and asked if we should take him in because we didn't know if it was that serious but wanted to make sure because our dog is still a puppy six months old. The lady told us she would put us on hold for a brief moment and check with the vet to see if we should come in because she wasn't sure. We then proceeded to wait on the phone for 25 minutes on hold at 11 o'clock at night. Then the phone just randomly hang up so I was in a rage because I'm just trying to make sure my dog is OK so I called back. I asked politely if they were in fact, open and the same lady answered and said yes we are. I told her how we were just on the phone for 25 minutes and then got hung up on and she said nothing about that. She then told me to call poison control, which I then informed her was only for humans not for dogs. She told me I could " come in if I wanted to" which was absolutely not the response I was looking for. All I wanted to know is if my dog was going to be OK and if I should bring him in so I ended up bringing him in anyways. Once I was there, they told me it was going to be a several hour wait so we got ready and sat down. A lady came out did not even look or check it. My dog did not even touch him and told us that we could just go home. Again, not the answer I was looking for. We just drove 45 minutes here to the emergency vet so that my dog could get this rendered be fat out of his system so that he did not get sick. She said " well we could make him throw it up if you would like" I said yes, I would like you to do that since I just drove 45 minutes here. They did that they gave him medication brought him back out. And said it was probably good that we came and he threw it up because that would've made him severely sick. It's just very disappointing that I got terrible care there and I was the one who needed to push and shove to get them to make him throw up when it was so obviously needed. They clearly just did not want to be there and did not want to deal with any of the dogs. The throw up fee was $95 in the actual vet visit fee was $200. Also ridiculous. Was referred to call this ER vet if I had any post-op worries for my cat to help determine whether the symptoms were needing emergent attention or not. Receptionist was lovely. However, when transferred to a medical team member, she was rude, dismissive, told me good luck finding an ER vet that will help me over the phone, and hung up on me. I then called the ER vet I've worked with several times before and was instead treated with kindness and compassion. An ER of any type is a vulnerable, scary place for those calling in or being seen. ER staff should always put kindness and compassion first because people/animals usually need it most in that moment. read more

I felt that the staff was very caring and the care was adequate! My cat is old and fussy. Everywhere I go has difficulty handling her (even I do) when she needs blood work done or the like, so we had to compromise by trying the most obvious and safest solution first (in this case antibiotics). It was a success! My kitty was happy and eating again by the very next day! Other than the staff being caring, they were prompt! In an emergency, this is where I will go from now on. We transferred our dog here from another emergency clinic at the request of the original vet for pain management. After we sat here for 4 hours (it's now 2am) they are finally working on the estimate for his care. The person at the desk is incredibly snotty and condescending. They charged us for an exam and the doctor didn't even know that our dog was male, he kept saying "she". The doctor had zero personality as well. ZERO STARS - DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE, ALIVE OR DEAD. I had never used this vet before but due to the time of night it was the closest option. Our Mishka died in route before reaching the facility on April 16. The staff took her to arrange cremation. This week I called to inquire when we would get her remains back & ask where she was sent for cremation. We learned on April 29 that she was still at AES & they had only, just the day before, put in the order for cremation. Only because of my phone call did they realize she was still there. Forgotten for almost 2 weeks. How do you overlook a 100 lb dog in your freezer? This demonstrates the highest level of incompetence, lack of decency of any kind, gross negligence, the list goes on. It was traumatic enough for us that she died in the truck on the way to the facility, but then to have to go back & pick up her two week old dead body to take it somewhere else (where we trust she will be taken care of) was a horror I cannot put into words. Though at the time it was only "cosmetic" it could have quickly turned for the worse. They listened to my concerns and did all they could. This is all while still handling three dogs that got hit by cars. Then on top of that worked in Eos, and who knows what else. I am so grateful for them. The prices are amazing as well. read more

I took my dog there the 8/28/24 because he was in pain and had not ate/drink anything all day. After waiting hrs we were told they did an ultrasound and had a lot going on and need surgery. So we paid $2800 after my husband paid. The dr. came back in the room and said well he could be bleeding from his liver and if that's the case we won't be able to save him. I knew at that moment I was never going to see my baby alive again. It was all about the money. When he did the ultrasound he could see that Titus was bleeding from his liver. The Dr. told my husband to go home because it would be a couple of hrs. before he did Titus surgery because he had to hydrate him and it wouldn't be till 12:45 or 1:00 am before he could start. I begged my husband to stay and not leave him. Well I said my good byes and told him how much I loved him and how proud I was to be with mom for the 8 years I had him. He knew because he kissed me and laid in my lap as long as he could. He looked at my Husband as to say he was sorry and when William told him he was going to be ok I losses it and ran outside screaming. We eventually left around 11:00 by 11:45 That Dr. was calling to say he was sorry and I went off I told him I was coming to get my dog to he could pass away at home. He told my husband he wouldn't last no more that 3 or 4 hrs at home and I told my husband I didn't care. It took us 20 mins. to get there and I was furious, Titus was already DEAD! In fact Rigamortus had already begun his legs and lower body was purple and blueish his eyes were open and would not close. They had cut all the way down the middle of his chest and stapled him up. There was no blood in sight. I no they didn't try to save him. No surgery was ever performed. The doctor had to leave " conveniently" which probably was the best thing for him and me because I may have ended up in jail that night. It's no way my dog should have been that HARD in 30 minutes after getting off the phone with him and he's saying he's still alive. I wouldn't take my worst enemy there. They are unprofessional, all about making money, and telling people anything to get money. For a long time I didn't think I was going to make it. I was very grateful that they took care of my dog the first night after she ate raisins. I had to wait 3 hours but she wasn't in distress, and it was expensive, but there was nowhere else to get care overnight and there is a high risk of renal failure. Dr Green was very caring and professional and did all the tests and support she needed overnight. The cost was high but that is not their fault, every vet hospital charges a lot and often more. I had to drive back the next morning to fetch her as they close at 8:30am so after returning home at 11pm it was a bit difficult to turn around and go back. But I am very grateful for this facility and the staff and Dr. Green who works all night 12-15 hours helping people with their hurt and sick pets. I was able to transfer my dog to an ER closer to my home which is only open on weekends. I think for the size of our communities it is a real shame there is so few ER facilities for pets and without these few places that are open, our pets would really suffer or die. Recently he had an issue with passing stools, and I had just came from another emergency vet. They took him back, asked me appropriate questions, and explained everything well when I had questions. Oh My Goodness! After having visited our normal vet on Friday and receiving what we soon realized was substandard service, ($1,100) our family's cat fell terribly ill the wee hours of Sunday morning, and we wound up taking him into the only 24 hour clinic still running in our area. They would not allow anyone to go in with the cat and told us they were going to run a bunch of tests and procedures, (few of which we later realized were done...$500) and urged us to euthanize, which if we chose to do immediately, they would do for free. It was decided by the whole family that we would go home and see if things might improve and that we could somehow get the poor cat to urinate. By now the cat had not urinated in more than 36 hours and things were clearly becoming dire. We called the Er Vet and told them we were coming back and they then told us that the offer for euthanasia was now no longer being offered and we would have to pay for a checkup and euthanasia. I spent literally hours on the phone trying to locate another emergency vet center when I located PARC & AEC. As soon as we walked into PARC We were given hope. When the vet Dr. Hope Valentine came back and examined our cat. She was very hopeful that he would survive, if given the proper treatment. She informed us that it would not be an expensive, but, that he would, in fact make it through the procedure, and through the treatment she was the. She was the first vet to offer a block at the base of the cats tail, which would enable her to insert a catheter easily, since it would reduce his pain. Once the catheter was in, she was able to fully drain his bladder, and most importantly, the catheter was left in until today. Nearly 60 hours later, the catheter having been removed just a few hours earlier, we received a call to come in and gather our cat and bring him home. Dr. Tim Stiff informed us that he should do just fine. Give him some time to heal and get over his inflammation.. there is no question in our minds that the two veterinary clinics, PARC & VEC saved our cat's life. We will be forever thankful to the two clinics and Dr. Valentine, Dr McNulty and Dr. Stiff, well as the caring staff in there employ. God bless each and everyone of them. I sincerely hope we are able to find a regular vet that will treat our pets as well. This has truly been an eye opening experience. Just because they hang a shingle saying that they are veterinarians does not mean that they have your animals best interest in mind. read more

Long story short: I adopted a cat with an amputated foot, who the shelter assured me would have no issues. Her bone broke through and she had to be put down due to financial difficulties. Dr.Stiff insinuated multiple times with quite the attitude that I was lying and had been neglecting my cat. He also used the phrase "this isn't going to be pretty" while euthanizing her. It took their "crematory" (an outside "business" with nothing but a home address and zero information who seem to run things from their home) took three weeks to collect, cremate, and return her. It has never taken more than a week in VB. She came back in a white cardboard box with a sticky label. It's bs and I'm beyond furious even weeks later that she wasn't even treated with dignity. My other pets always received an ornate wooden box as an urn. The front desk ladies are great, though. Do not believe the positive reviews and do not bring your pets here if you care about them. Dr.Stiff, as well as "Shannon and Allan" from the crematory need new careers ASAP because they can't even seem to provide the bare minimum of people skills or respect. read more

There aren't words to express how appreciative we are of the kindness and care the AEC staff showed to us and our dear Chihuahua, Marty. With great sadness, we watched our fierce and loyal friend of 12 years cross the rainbow bridge. Dr. Crist was very thorough and provided a great level of detail about Marty's congestive heart failure and long term prognosis. We feel the information he provided aided in making a very difficult decision. The Vet Techs were also very caring. They comforted us, prepared Marty for burial, and gave us the sweetest gift of his paw prints in a memorial frame. Dr stiff made my puppy reactive after trying to give her an injection. He held her down basically laying on her and gave her an injection. He told us we were overreacting multiple times. Also told me that my puppy (soon to be service dog) didnt make and physical sense bc dogs cant detect heart rate changes? Despite service dogs for POTs the condition is have being a very common thing among service dogs. He also was very rude To us. Example- I told my finacee to wash his hands because he got our dogs blood on him from the injection and dr stiff said "well where theres an injection theres gonna be blood" yeah no shit. He called us overly concerned. He sucks, our og vet is helped her through her vet reactivity now and thankfully shes doing great and is top of her class :3 but yeah big fuck you to dr stiff. read more

During covid-19, my 7 year old yorkipoo started pooping and throwing up blood. We called the animal emergency center immediately because they had better reviews. Because of the virus, they told us to drive over, call when we got to the parking lot, and they'll bring out her paperwork. It was a seamless process. We dropped off the dog and shortly after, Dr. Keri McNulty called to give us a very thorough update. Scarlett was stressed, like most of us, during this virus. This has stuck with me for years. My puppy (heart attack at 1yr old) passed away in 2017. My mother and I frantically drove with our dying baby to this vet as it was the closest emergency vet that was open. We ran in crying and yelling that we had an emergency as my mother held our dying puppy in her arms. She unfortunately did not make it, and instead of offering any consultation, we received a lecture about how our frantic entrance to the office was unnecessary and worried the other customers. Now, nearly 6 years later, I still harbor feelings of embarrassment on top of what was already a traumatic and painful experience. I would never EVER recommend this business to anyone as their actions that day made very evident that it is just that - a business - with no regard for the feelings or impact that their actions have on pet owners or their fur babies. read more

I was at this practice over the weekend, Dr. Crist was great in finding out that my cat was dying from cancer and relieved her pain and suffering by euthanasia. My only complaint is that when I asked for my pet's remains, they put her in a tied up trash bag, this broke my heart as I'm crying carrying out my crate with my deceased cat thru the lobby of other people waiting for their pets to be seen. I think after such a devastating loss of a beloved family pet that you could have done better and put the remains in something better than a trash bag and should have wrapped them up in a small blanket or something other than a plastic trash bag. You should also have a separate exit for people who have lost their pets, so that they don't have to walk back thru a full lobby of people. read more

Amazing staff. Very helpful. Kinda pricey, but what veterinarian hospital isn't? When I had found out something was wrong with my 12 year old cat, this place was the only place available from Norfolk, Richmond and even North Carolina... kinda shitty how only one place was open in what felt like the whole state. I got there around 630 pm and left maybe around 9? Maybe even sooner. The only down side about that is the receptionist answering the phone was telling literally everyone a 8-10 hour wait.... Yes, at that time they take immediate emergencies , i took in my cat for a UTI and barely waited 45 min before they took my cat to the back. Other patients got there after me and still some left before me. They were very helpful, giving me the antibiotics and X-rays for my cat so i can take it to my Vet. read more

I ended up having to put my dog down, however they treated him with respect and kindness his last final hours on the earth. The vet, I believe her name was Dr.McNulty, explained to me what was going on in detail, and explained to me the process on how he was in the condition he was in. When I had to put him down, the vet techs and vet assistants were nearby and they were all loving on him while the procedure was taking place. I came all the way from Virginia Beach at 11pm because Bay beach didn't believe my case was severe enough- even though my dog's oxygen level was severely low and his white blood cell count was at 0. I needed to bring my dog here because his vet was closed for the weekend and despite being given some medication for repeated vomiting, the vomiting continued. Dr. Stiff and the staff were absolutely incredible. Dr. Stiff was very thorough going over my dog's history and didn't just evaluate him for the vomiting but rather looked at all of him to see if we could figure out what was going on. When I say thorough, I mean it. He was not rushed, truly listened, and fully explained everything to me. He made sure our regular vet had all the information and test results and they even copied the x-rays to a disc just in case. The prices were very reasonable. I was a little nervous going in but was charged over $100 less than I was quoted for x-rays at my regular vet. If you need to see a vet after hours, I would definitely recommend Animal Emergency Center. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about this place! My 11 week old German Shepherd ate a scrunchie and naturally I panicked. Our vet had recommended this place in case of after hours emergency and I'm so glad she did. They had curbside check in due to covid but we called, filled out online paperwork and they took our pup back before we were finished. We got regular calls from Dr. Crist updating us to our pup's condition and asking how we would like to proceed. Within the hour he had an exam, they got the scrunchie out and he was returned to us with discharge instructions (also very reasonable cost). She did not need to be seen and I was not charged. Vet I'm not one to leave reviews whether good or bad but I felt the need to express my experience with Animal Emergency Center so no one else has to ever experience what I did. On Saturday 8/6/22 my French Bulldog started showing signs of labor. My normal vet was closed so I called numerous places to see if they could perform an emergency cesarean section for my dog. At the time I knew one had to be performed because my vet told me the puppy was very large and wouldn't be able to have birth naturally. Once I called Animal Emergency Center I explained all of this to the woman that answered the phone. I told her I lived 45 minutes from their location and would they be able to do it. The first thing She stated was that the charge would be $2500-$3500 to perform the surgery and would I be able to pay for that because they offer no financing. She kept bringing it up like I couldn't pay for it or didn't already know the expenses for this procedure. Then she stated that I could bring my dog in after she was in active labor showing signs of actually pushing the puppy out. I questioned that living 45 minutes away but she stated they would not take my dog in until then. So I asked her what time they closed and if I had to call back and she said they were open 24 hours and no to just bring my dog in when that happened. So when my dog showed those signs I drove 45 minutes to their location. Once I arrived I called from my car in the parking lot and told the woman that answered I was in the parking lot, my dog was in active labor and could I bring her inside for the surgery. She stated yes to bring her inside and they would get it taken care of. I walked inside with my dog in my arms and sat her on the counter with me. While I was standing at the desk I could here the Vet and her arguing about why she told me that bring my dog in and they didn't have time to help her and to go tell me I'd have to take her somewhere else. She comes back out and tries giving me a list of phone numbers to call which I had called everyone within a two hour radius already that was open and they were the only ones that said I could bring her in. Hence the fact I drove 45 minutes to get seen. Of course I got argumentative about it because my dog is literally in my arms trying to push out this puppy and they are now refusing me service because they don't have enough help. Then the lady recommended for me to call another emergency place but the spay the dog afterwards. Of course I said no because I don't want my dog spayed and she said to me "No dog that needs a c-section should be allowed to breed". I could not believe the words I just heard her say. Regardless of her feelings my dog needed a c-section because the puppy was so large. But for her to put in her uneducated two sense just dumbfounded me. After arguing back and forth I didn't even want my baby in their care at all. She then told me I needed to leave and they would no longer help me with my dog. Vets take an oath just like real doctors and for this place to be allowed to conduct such life threatening injuries I would definitely think twice before I ever brought my animal here. They obviously have no concerns for the animals well being or to help a dog in need. Regardless if I was loud or argumentative the actual duty was to help my animal. Not me. My dog was literally sitting in front of them trying to push her puppy out and they told me to leave. This place has no concern for animals at all and no organization or communication skills. They should have never told me to drive there and they could help me knowing they couldn't. The staff was so rude and heartless I would never in my life recommend this place. I suggest you call around before you even step foot in this place. I'd be worried how the staff would treat my animal in a dire need situation.
