    a buffet of food

While my second experience here was good, the first time they told me on Friday they would be open on Saturday morning, but when I got there it was closed (there were no sudden weather conditions). They get 3.5 stars. They run a breakfast buffet on weekends which is great at only $18. This is South Indian breakfast, so the only meat item was chicken gravy (which had no chicken meat). Nonetheless, coconut & kara chutneys, sambar & methu vadai were very good. The kichadi had little flavour though. Also the poori took a long time to come out & even when new it was already not fresh or crispy. The variety was pretty good, but they cheated a bit, since sambar, vadai & sambar vadai were presented as 3 separate dishes, when the last is a combination of the first 2. They also had paper dosa, mostly made to order (it was rarely found on buffet table but was easy to order from the server).

What I wanted to single out that this South Indian restaurant has going for them is 'presentation'. The food presentation is commendable. From the basic garnish on the Chicken Lolly Pop to the Thali's look and demonstration with all its assorted little dips and side dishes, I find it all very exciting to just jump right in to the eating part. A good find I had here was discovering new post-meal items to look out for when going to Indian restaurants. I really enjoyed my order of Pineapple Kesari, and will be sure to search for that item in the menu next time I am out in an Indian place. A couple of quick things, good and bad, I also want to mention about the overall dining experience I had here are the following: Good that they have a very accessible wash area by the dining space. I would want more Indian restaurants or restaurants in general to have them convenientely available outside instead of having to go all the way inside washrooms. The bad thing is that I did not appreciate how the servers gave me the impression that they are in such a rush to have us finish up our meal and our stay there so they could already clean up the place. They also handed out the bill to us instead of waiting for us to ask for it which I find very rude. I understand that we may have started placing our meal orders late (8:15) then around 9:45-ish already when they came in and gave the bill, but servers should only very situationally be the one to decide on when it is pay-up time already. Even during that late into the night I see some other customers who just came in and have just been served their orders. These unpleasant experience pulled the overall rating down for me. Anyways, to move back on to the food... as someone who can't say is a very good source of opinion about Indian food & all the regional cuisines it has to offer, I must say that dining here gave me a much better sense of what South Indian food may be like. Indian food is so much more than your mainstream Buttern Chicken & Chicken Tikka Masala.

The signs were there but we ignored them. Bad move. Looking for somewhere new to try, this was our fourth stop for lunch. Our first stop was a Jamiacan restaurant that we heard about because of their barrel-cooked jerk chicken. They had no jerk. Of any kind. Not today. How can a Jamaican restaurant not have jerk??? The second stop was a Guyanese restaurant that didn't open until 2pm. What? If you're not open for lunch, why bother opening at 2pm? The third stop, an Indian restaurant across the street wasn't open today. Hmmm... With Indian food on our minds now, our handy Yelp app brought us to Anjappar Chettinad, a South Indian restaurant with a lunch buffet. We were hungry so this was it! We were seated in a large spacious dining area and the buffet was set up in another room where the dining tables weren't being used. The buffet selection was very limited, with two types of chicken and a fish dish as the main proteins. There was plain rice, biryani rice, a few vegetarian dishes that I wasn't familiar with, fresh fruits, ice cream, and a couple of Indian desserts. No butter chicken, channa masala, or mutton? The biryani rice, mushrooms, and tandoori chicken were good. The rest was just okay, passable, not memorable. I would have preferred at least one other meat dish and maybe a couple more veggie (chick peas) dishes. The service was below par. There was hardly any dialog with our server and we had to ask for everything - napkins, beverages, bill, etc. I'm used to Indian buffets that offer a lot more selection for less money. At $14.99, this was not a good value, and not an experience worth repeating. PS - Although a bit frustrating, the earlier experience at the first three stops did not affect the review of this restaurant.

It's been ages since we tried a South Indian restaurant, and we decided to give this place a try. They've been in business 16+ years. The owner is a nice man, and is present to attend to all customers needs. The food is tasty, but I can't help feeling like they are a little pricey for the portions. I found the most outrageous thing to be the cost of "Ponni rice" and even other rice..... considering the cost for a huge bag of rice at grocery stores. Parottas were really good for the curries. We liked the chicken momos the most, definitely worth trying. We enjoyed the experience but not sure if we will come again.

Theo parottas are the best I have had in my life. Super good. You should all try it. If you are a veggie try it with mushroom masala if not with mutton pepper fry. Best! Their dosas are good but side nah. Cauliflower 65 is good too. Paneer 65 NO. Crab soup is good to have if u have cold.

Went in for a late night dinner and found that they were serving non veg meals. Having a large appetite that night, we decided to try it out along with Crab soup and some chicken 65. The crab soup was hot and tasty. The chicken 65 was a smaller amount but made well. The non veg meals all about 6 to 7 kattoris and served with a bowl of rice and chapatti. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasty it was for a meal at 10pm. If you are a hungry bachelor, go for the meal Thali. It will surely bring your hunger and anger down, haha! The restaurant closed at 11pm and yet they were kind enough to let us spend more time there. Friend staff and quick service. My only negative comment was that the dishes were coming out of order (got chicken 65 before soup) and unevenly - so if you are a large group, some people may get their order first while it may take time for others. But hey, that's just a very specific gripe and it's okay to wait a little after all the dishes are budget and saves you a buck! Must try Indian restaurant and a definite recommendation!

Very good, slightly pricey. I got an assortment of things a platter over one big meal as I wanted to branch out in my food selection but also some favorites. Not many people in the restaurant over dinner or much work put into the overall atmosphere. I took the food home with me although if I wasn't alone I would have ate there too. My food was fresh and tasty. Not the best but not bad. I would eat here again.

If you are looking for your dose of South Indian non vegetarian food, this is a great choice (although my favourite in this category is Karaikuddi in Scarborough). They have a lot of options and are quick in their service. The challenge that they have is the restaurant is always crowded and sometimes miss (or delay) the order which wasn't in their original list. However, the Manager or Owner is pretty proactive in responding to the requests. Also, the restaurant doesn't understand the concept of "mild" spicy. It was still spicy for me. LOL.The restaurant has a dedicated parking and makes it easy if you are traveling with family. I never fell lin love with the place but won't mind visiting it again.

The dhosa has been closest to what I have seen in India. Now we have been coming here almost every night. Can get very crowded at times but other than that its all good. My favourites: Mutton chukkha Biriyani Cheese Masala Dhosa Falooda

All their preparations are super delicious. They need to have more staff on weekends. The food was slow in coming during the brunch buffet.

I was quite surprised and delighted to come here for dinner. The restaurant used good quality meat…read moreand mostly chicken without bone, which was very unusually for small buffets. I really enjoyed the onion pakoras and chili chicken which I think was breast meat. The buffet had a good variety, and something for everyone to enjoy. A few veg items, land sea and air meats, and flavour enhancing side dishes. The staff were very friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the noise was just enough for us to hear everything my table mates were saying.
