I'm usually not big on vegetarian food, but since this new restaurant is just around the corner from my place, I had to check it out! This is a new pure vegetarian spot in Scarborough. They've got a wide range of dishes, and the interior is designed to handle the regular rush of customers. During my visit, I tried their Masala dosa, which came with coconut chutney and sambar--absolutely mouth-watering! I also had butter and garlic naan with dal makhani and paneer kaju masala. Everything was so delicious, I was really impressed! Go try it out for yourself!

Ishq is a fairly new and very busy Indian vegetarian restaurant in Scarborough at the corner of Birchmount and Eglinton. They have a huge menu including options from various parts of India. Our group tried Gobi 65, Hakka Sizzler, Paneer Sizzler, Malai Paneer Tikka, North Indian Thali, and 5 Foot Masala Dosa were all very good. The tandoori pineapple, however, was spectacular. Never had this before. It was sweet, sour and a little spicy. Highly recommend. I would have given them 5 stars but the service was a little chaotic. The dishes came out kind of randomly with some entrees coming before some appetizers. One of the items we ordered was aloo paratha. Reminded the staff 4 times that we had not received it. They kept saying it takes extra time to make it. 90 minutes later when we were ready to leave it still had not come. In the end we cancelled the item.

Burnt Garlic Chilli Sizzler. Very tasty.

This is a fairly new restaurant and it's already super busy. And I can see why! Very nice interior and a very wide-ranging menu with lots of classic Indian dishes and also some fusion dishes as well. We had the burnt garlic chili sizzler, palak paneer with garlic naan, the vegetable biryani, and the special noodle dosa. Everything was very flavorful and fresh. I think the veg Dum biryani was our favourite. The service was amazing and friendly. We went early around 6pm on a Saturday night and got a seat right away. However, the place was absolutely full with a long line of people waiting by the time we left. The parking lot is not big considering the size of this restaurant, so just look out for that.

Had late lunch with friends. Asked our server for her recommendations. All excellent. We had Northern Indian Talli, Marsala dosa and cream tomato's and veg clear soups , gobi Manchuria n a mango lassi. Going back next week a party of 15

The best North Indian food we had. All the curries which we ordered taste exactly like how we eat in india. Did not like the sambhar much. Definitely visit this place if you are in Toronto area.

Really good food. Good ambiance. Everything we ordered was good but the highlight were the appetizers and sizzler. Maybe next time I'll come for that and try the chai thali next time. Service was quick. We were seated within 5min, placed order within 10 and food started arriving 10min after that.

Graceful Vegetarian Restaurant, located inside Splendid China Mall in Scarborough, serves Chinese…read morevegetarian dishes that (in my opinion) are way better than the ones served in similar Chinese vegetarian restaurants that I had been to elsewhere in the GTA. At Graceful, they actually offer dishes that contain no mock meat, such as straight tofu and bean curd varieties with fresh vegetables (as a non-meat eater, I'm not a big fan of mock meats). The food here seems to be a hit with both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The restaurant is easily spottable as there are huge signs and entrances from both outside and inside the mall. The interior is not very big - just one big room, but has a cozy and comfortable ambiance with Chinese decorations. There was a table with take-out snack and dessert items right at the entrance, where you can buy packages of cashew nuts, Chinese cookies, and glutinous rice-based snacks / desserts. Service was very friendly, quick, and much better than the service you'd find at most other Chinese restaurants anywhere else. We were presented with 3 menus: dim sum menu (where you mark the items you want to order yourself with a pencil), special dishes menu (with coloured photos), and the main menu (came in a paper booklet). We ordered a combination of dishes from the dim sum and main menus. DIM SUM - Vegetarian Shiu Mai: Loved it! The texture was very smooth and I could see the pieces of vegetables (maybe carrot, radish, water chestnut, mushrooms) in the shiu mai. - Mock BBQ Eel: We ordered this one just out of curiosity. This was my least favourite item out of the ones we ordered. It came out as cubed pieces of deep-fried gluten, covered in sweet sauce and a bit of sesame seeds. Not a fan of deep-fried stuff, and I didn't like the sweet sauce. It had zero resemblance (both visually and taste-wise) to eel (we didn't expect it to be... just wanted to see how this dish would turn out). - Mock Sliced Abalone Sashimi: This was okay, but it could do without the sauce. I liked the firm texture, just like abalone. It was served with a small dollop of wasabi (not needed, in my opinion). MAIN DISHES - Stir-Fried Tofu, Cabbage, Carrot, and Wood Ear Mushrooms: My absolute favourite dish here! We ordered it because I read another Yelp reviewer wrote that this dish was great, non-greasy, and non-oily. They were correct (thank you)! Glad we got this. The tofu was nice and firm with a chewy texture, and I loved all the vegetables that came with this dish. As a big fan of stir-fried cabbage and wood ear mushrooms, this was an easy win. I liked that it wasn't covered in thick sauce and not oily or greasy. - Egg Whites and Mock Crab Meat on Broccoli: Broccoli was a bit on the soft side, but I liked this dish for the combination of fresh vegs and a huge amount of lean protein (egg whites) on top. It was a big dish, and we got to take home some of the egg whites. - Crispy Egg-Free Noodles with Bean Curd Slices and Bitter Melon: This came with too much thick sauce (although I liked the black pepper), but the parts with the still-crispy noodles were good. The protein was actually called "Mock Beef" in the menu, but it was really bean curd slices. I liked the bitter melon the best in this dish, minus the sauce. Overall, this was a great place for Chinese vegetarian food. There was a wide variety of items to choose from, ranging from dim sum (small dishes) to larger main dishes, and all sorts of cooking styles (steamed, stir-fried, deep fried, soup, hot pot, etc.). In the fried rice section of the menu, it was written that they could make all of the fried rice vegan by omitting the eggs (good option for those who want them to be vegan). The 2 stand-outs of this restaurant were the quality and taste of the dishes (especially the ones with tofu / bean curd and actual vegetables), and the service. The gentleman who worked there (perhaps the manager or owner) really cared about his customers and acted like an owner - greeting us, making sure we were taken care of, giving us extra napkins and utensils when asked, explaining each dish that came out, and said goodbye as we were leaving. I plan on coming back to try some of their other dishes on the menu (still lots to choose from!).

The interior design is reminiscent of the earlier location. If you're into a quiet, serene atmosphere and polite, considerate fellow patrons, this is the place for you. The food was as memorable as before! I had the freshly shucked corn jjeok (congee) which was a thin congee (always my preference), topped with mock ham. 10/10. Spouse had the mock sharks' fin soup - 10/10. We shared the "Korean style" napa cabbage with several mushrooms and taofu. It was outstanding and thankfully not loaded with cornstarch. 10/10. We splurged on "peanut filled dumplings" which contained minutely-chopped water chestnuts, chopped carrot and mushroom and the lovely crunchy peanuts. TEXTURE WAS SUBLIME and the TASTE outstanding. 10/10. Service: 10/10. Ambiance: 10/10. Highly, highly recommended.

The cashier came out from behind the counter and explained all the sections, what was made by King's, what was made in Canada, what was from China, etc. She gave us samples of their signature seitan and was generally so kind and helpful. She said if we said what we want to cook, she could suggest items, and the items we did choose she has helpful instructions on how to cook it - what could be baked or fried, what could be steamed, how to get more deliciousness by using Cantonese cooking techniques such as frying the frozen meat in a little oil before adding everything else. The price tags are color coded - green for vegan, yellow for contains eggs, white for contains dairy. The person working said you can't trust the Chinese ingredient list. There is everything from bags of meat (setian, soy, drumsticks, vegan oysters, etc.) to steam buns, sauced meat to which to add your favorite vegetables, to compete frozen microwavable meals manufactured by King's. To make it odd, the staff not aware what vegan meant. The menu underneath pizza said vegan options, but they couldn't understand that vegan should not include cheese or butter. Not properly trained staff. Dahi Poori was vegan , we were told. They wouldn't even make Dahi (yogurt) Poori with yogurt on the side. We had a Dabeli w/o Butter to make it vegan. It was good, but the spices were way less than we anticipated. The chutney provided was also very mild. Mumbai Meei Jaan platter with Vada Pav made vegan was good. The topped chilli could have been the spicier version. The vegan Bhel was OK, again too mild. The vegan Pani Poori OK again, but the water was way too mild as if made for non-Asians more than for Indian origin customers. Vegan Schezwan Dosa - we assumed it would be street style, made with veggies and noodles in Schezwan sauce. It turned out to be masala dosa with schezwan sauce inside the dosa with regular potato onion filling. The chutney and sambhar again very mild flavours. Family did have Pav Bhaji which couldn't be made vegan. They did enjoy it but again found to be mild as well. Hard to believe that a Gujarat based restaurant had such mild flavours. The interior is plain and clean.

We made a reservation (highly recommended) which they were able to pull up since we got there 30 minutes early and starving. The entire restaurant had a beautiful, high end vibe without prices being too high for its own good. We started off with their delicious Bang Bang Broccoli and Kimchi Chick'n Baus, both of which I'd easily come back for more if this was a buffet line. The bang bang sauce was absolutely sensational and we dipped our tasty baos in it afterwards. For our mains, we divided up their Volcano Roll, Kelp Caesar Salad, and a Hawaiian Pizza. The roll was alright (I've had better at vegan sushi restaurants) but the salad and pizza were both extraordinary. In particular, the salad sent me and was a complete flavor and texture bomb. Highly recommend everyone getting this to share as it was an absolute standout. As much as we wanted room for dessert, our hunger was just too much from not eating all day. Everything here definitely hit the spot and would definitely return again the next time I'm in Toronto.

Christmas in March!…read more My best friend and I were supposed to meet up before Christmas. We both got busy, especially with my being stateside for the holidays. When I returned, she was away. We were both free in mid-March to exchange Christmas gifts and catch up. She lives in Peterborough. We tend to meet partway. I suggested this Veggie Planet in Ajax. She was game. We both had never been to any Veggie Planet location. I had no problem finding a parking spot in this plaza. I backed into a spot a few doors down from this eatery. I waited for my friend to arrive. Once she did, we walked in. Being our first time, we went with a pizza. I asked an extremely helpful woman behind the counter what size would be good for us. She recommended a medium pizza. We got the following items: - Medium Indian masala pizza - Onion rings - Kawa nuggets - Masala soda (sweet with a hint of saltiness) - Diet Pepsi My friend wanted onion rings. I originally wanted to get the kawa (soy) drumsticks. The female staffer recommended the nuggets instead. Interesting. I went with her suggestion. For the masala soda, she said that I could get it either sweet or salty. I asked if I could get a bit of each. So, my drink ended up being sweet with a hint of saltiness. I paid with a credit card. The transaction was smooth. She said that she'd bring the food and drinks over. Nice! We grabbed a table and chatted. Our drinks came out first. I loved my masala soda. It was slightly sweet. It did have a bit of saltiness to it. The masala was perfect with the fizzy soda. I just wish that this drink were offered in a larger size. I ended up getting a cold Diet Pepsi an hour later. It was perfect. Our medium Indian masala pizza came next. By default, it had tomatoes, onions, and green bell peppers. My friend is vegan. We made sure that we got vegan cheese. The pizza was yummy. The cheese melted nicely. However, with this vegan cheese, you will never get a stretchy cheese pull. In hindsight, this pizza would have been even better with protein. Kawa would have worked nicely. Luckily, we had kava nuggets. They were delicious. They were crispy and yummy. You couldn't tell that they were soy. The dipping sauce was yummy. I liked the onion rings. They were so crispy. They were enjoyable to eat. We spent at least a couple of hours here. I provided feedback on how fabulous the food was and how helpful the woman was when I bought my Diet Pepsi. She smiled and seemed happy. There is a washroom that's a single stall at the back of this eatery. It's the type where you press a button to lock the door and another button to unlock it. A light outside the washroom lets the world know that it's either vacant (green) or occupied (red). My friend used it first and said that it was clean. I used it afterwards. A customer tried opening the door twice while I was using the washroom. I actually said something the second time and she stopped tugging at the door handle as if her life depending on it. When I was done, I locked eyes with the woman who was clueless about the lights. Other than weird washroom woman, we had a great time here. I still want to try the drumsticks and get the masala soda again. So good! (139)
