Darren Jirsa, was the specialist we saw and he was very friendly and explained things in a way that made it easy to weigh pros and cons. Did not recommend any more than what was needed, which was just to leave his teeth alone because the risk would outweigh the reward. Overall fantastic experience, we will be back if any more follow ups are needed in the future!

Where do I begin. Went to then at the end of August 2023 . Was told I needed the deep cleaning with…read moremeds , my wisdom teeth out , and two crowns done. They wanted to jam all these visits into 4 visits! FOUR !! They quoted me at like 2500, and I took out a care credit loan (paid in full as of August 27th 2024) At my first visit (8/31/2023 they did the deep cleaning (1,337.00) My second visit 09/05/2024 they did half my mouth the meds for perio (1,318.00) Third visit 09/11/2024 (640.00)other half of my mouth with meds and temporary crowns for the two that needed done . They did this even though I told them I couldn't afford to pay for the permanent crown until into the new year. DID YOU KNOW temporary crowns are only supposed to stay in your mouth for two weeks? I had no idea . 4th visit 09/12/2024 (2,814.00) got 3 of my wisdom teeth removed. They did an xray after , and after I had been home for over an hour calls me and tells me I need to come back in because they found a WIRE in my gums from when the dentist put my temporary crown in on 09/11/2024. The oral surgeon removed it and said I had an infection and put some meds on it. ( that is when I should've started to raise hell but was was coming off of being under and didn't think to say anything ) they then sent me home and I proceeded to have the worst pain of my entire life . Like nobody can describe oral pain. I went back in mutiple times and the dentist would not listen to me . So I went to Altoona Smiles (Dr. Daniel's is amazing and I recommend him so much) He doesn't understand why they'd even put a temporary crown let alone two in my mouth when I said I couldn't afford the pertinent until the new year. So guess what I had to go ahead and pay for those temporary's to be redone by Altoona smiles and then two weeks following get my permanent's in. I am now a patient permanently with Altoona Smiles . I recently got a message from a debt collector for Aspen. Apparently my claims with them all denied and they had never called me to tell me . Altoona did after my first visit and my insurance company fixed the issue and reprocessed the claims . That is literally all they needed to do. Aspen didn't and now after talking with my dental insurance they will do everything in their power to get those claims from 2023 reprocessed . Moral of the story is Aspen Dental just thinks of you as cows going through the slaughter house. They truly do not care about you . Always check reviews, before making an appointment. Hopefully this review saves some people the pain and suffering . I now have major anxiety with dental care , but my dentist understands and knows how to handle with care . ASPEN DOES NOT HANDLE WITH CARE!

They let you know up front in the confirmation call how much your procedure will be, and will let you know what you need to bring (payment and inhaler for me). Dr. Jirsa overall just took care of me. Nurses were great, professional, and pleasant. I even went out of my dental insurance network to get my wisdom teeth out because they're so great! Dr. Dunbar was the most uncaring, hurtful doctor that I have ever encountered and after many years…read moreof cancer he's competing with a wide field. I came to the office pretty frightened because my oncologist thought I was developing a rare disorder that causes your jawbone to die. Dr. Dunbar made statements about the horrible things that could happen and then would chuckle. He talked about pieces of my jaw sloughing away--chuckle--but repeated several times with laughter, "But I've never known anyone to die from it." I explained to the doctor that because of our finances I couldn't afford to come again. When I asked him if he wanted to renew my antibiotic he smiled and said, "What I'd really like is for you to come back next week and we can just see what happens." He offered no help, no solutions and no concern. Before my appointment I was told that if my Medicare didn't pay for the x-ray it would be written off. When they sent me to the billing office, I saw I was being charged for the x-ray and I asked why after what I had been told. The response was, "Oh, we write off the other kind of x-ray, but we don't write off this x-ray." After waffling back and forth with casual ideas of a, "We could try this," nature with no reason 'why' given, the doctor finally said, "You know, let's do a biopsy. With your history it sure could be mouth cancer." Then I was sent to the financial office to fill out four copies of papers saying I understood my insurance and Medicare probably wouldn't pay. That's when I saw the charge for a biopsy. I was so upset by then, and it was the first action offered, so I was going to do it. However, when I saw the charge, I thought better of it. I had, at that point, no confidence in Dr. Dunbar. I was very confident that he didn't care about me at all. I thought I should talk to my oncologist first. My oncologist said it didn't look at all like mouth cancer and that it would have been very dangerous to do a biopsy. The staff at the office was nice. Maybe Dr. Dunbar thinks laughing at the end of every sentence is reassuring, but it is not--especially when you're telling the patient all about the various ways their jaw may rot away. Dr. Dunbar's cavalier attitude made me feel totally hopeless and it was terrible to end up with a $250 bill for twenty minutes of being laughed at and an x-ray. I have spent weeks trying to decide whether to give this review but I wouldn't want anyone else to have the experience I had. Dr. Dunbar may be great at pulling wisdom teeth, but he was not great with a long term cancer patient with a scary and serious problem.

So calling them doesn't get you an appointment, you literally have to show up at their offices to schedule one not that a dentist will actually see you. Dealing with her was often times like trying to keep up with a Middle Schooler. You'd call her at the Ankeny Office and they would say she was at the West Des Moines office. Call the West Des Moines office and they would say she was at Ankeny. Needless to say no one could ever seem to locate her. Either she's not where she is supposed to be or the culture of the office staff has failed to remember they are in a SERVICE industry and have patients who are their customers! Both are disappointing. When there were times that Diana requested me to call her I would leave voicemail messages that would go unanswered for several days until I would call her back. The sad part with most medical practices is that the physicians themselves are completely isolated from how their staff handles the patients that allow the physician the opportunity to be successful.
