The fenced-in basketball court is a huge plus. My boys are here at least once a week playing pick-up games with friends. It's always active but never too crowded, and the fence gives some peace of mind since the balls stay in play and off the road. There's also a nice pavilion that's great for birthday parties or just grabbing some shade while the kids run around. The baseball field gets good use during the warmer months, and the walking path is perfect for a relaxing stroll or letting little ones ride their bikes. The playground is clean and well-kept. Whether it's shooting hoops, playing on the playground, or just getting some fresh air, Sangree has become a regular part of our week.

I was simply looking for a park where I could enjoy my lunch outside and I was near Bellevue Memorial Park. Google found it for me, I had no idea it was even there. After I enjoyed my lunch, I walked around the shelter where I had set up shop because I thought I saw a trail. I ended up finding a map posted in the park that actually listed several miles of trails that mostly lead through the woods. I returned a week later when I had the time to devote to some exploration. The trails themselves are not blazed but they are easily navigable and there are signs at all the trailheads. Most are not loops but meet up with other trails and you're never far from a road. I wandered the squirrel, falcon, fox, herron, nettle, deer, salamander and rabbit trails. The trails are well-maintained. Expect some elevation as I encountered lots of ups and downs. Be cautious, too, of water crossings. I also saw signs for a health and fitness trail that I will be back for once the weather is warmer. There is a small parking lot by the pool that is I think the easiest spot if you're there for the trails but there are also places to park along the sides of the road. I imagine in the warmer months (especially on the weekends) parking will be hard to come by with both the playground, ballfield and pool sharing this space. I had a good morning of hiking, though. I heard birds during my hike and even spotted a blue jay. Several deer crossed my path while, ironically, I was on the deer trail. Ramps were also set up throughout the trails for mountain bikers. While I like knowing that I'm not far from a main road it can also take away from my enjoyment of my hike when the songbirds are competing with the traffic. But deeper into some of the trails it is easier to get lost in the nature surrounding you.

There is a sign welcoming you to the park, and some benches, picnic tables, and a basketball court. There is a garden with lots of flowers and native plants. There is also a small dirt track for riding bicycles around in a circle. My favorite thing was a really colorful mural painted on the building next to the park. There are a few parking spots here also. Future plans include building a large Raccoon Sculpture in the center of the park, and I am looking forward to seeing that . . . Cheers!

Riverview Park has one of the largest and most extensive trail systems in the Pittsburgh area. With…read moreso many interconnected trails winding through different neighborhoods, it's easy to have a different experience every time you visit. I also like that you can step into a nearby neighborhood and grab something to eat before continuing your hike. Compared to Schenley or Frick Park, it also tends to be less crowded, making it a great option if you're looking for a quieter, more peaceful walk. That said, the trails are not as well maintained as many of Pittsburgh's other parks. Some sections are in great condition, while others have overgrown vegetation, uneven rocky terrain, steep drop-offs, and occasional hazards like broken glass. I noticed small pieces of glass along the Archery Trail, so I would recommend wearing hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes rather than thin-soled sneakers. Because of the terrain, I think this park is much better suited for walking and hiking than for running. Most of the trails are not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult for young children, older adults, or anyone with mobility challenges. Even with the overgrowth, the scenery is beautiful, and many areas were filled with fragrant plants and wildflowers. I didn't personally see any poison ivy during my visit, but it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings. One area that could definitely be improved is restroom access. There are very few restrooms throughout the park, and one restroom that had been open during a previous visit was locked in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Adding a few portable restrooms near the busiest trailheads would make a big difference for visitors. Parking is easier than I expected. While there aren't many dedicated parking lots, there is plenty of street parking throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Depending on which trails you choose, you may also come across areas where unhoused individuals have set up encampments. During my visits, everyone kept to themselves and I didn't have any negative interactions, but it's something visitors should be aware of and another reason to stay aware of your surroundings in such a large urban park. The observatory has unfortunately been closed each time I've visited, but the park frequently hosts community events that are worth checking out. It's encouraging to see ongoing improvements, and I hope the city continues investing in this park because it has so much potential. Overall, Riverview Park is a beautiful place to explore and one of Pittsburgh's most expansive trail systems. While there are areas that could benefit from better maintenance, additional restrooms, and continued safety improvements, it's still well worth visiting. With a little more attention, I truly think it has the potential to become one of the best parks in Pittsburgh.

It's a total hidden gem on the North Side. Because of how heavily wooded and steep it is, you instantly feel like you're deep in the woods even though you're only a few miles from downtown. The hiking trails are excellent, especially if you want a bit of a workout on the hills; and since it gets way less foot traffic than the other major city parks, it's incredibly quiet and peaceful. The real crown jewel, though, is the historic Allegheny Observatory sitting right at the top of the hill. It looks amazing against the trees, and they actually run awesome, free night tours where you can look through the old telescopes if you call ahead for a reservation. Plus, the park has a solid off-leash dog area, a pool, and they host free outdoor concerts in the summer. It's just a great, low-key spot to get outside without ever leaving the city limits.

They had live music and some of the food stands that you typically see at the arts fest in this section. I was so excited when I heard they were keeping it, especially since we missed the Allegheny Overlook. They put down fake grass with lots of tables and chairs (even rocking chairs too) facing the stage. I attended the PGH Opens there last night which included extra food trucks and gift card giveaways in addition to the music and Pgh Mobile Bars. The space is comfortable and family friendly. The mobile bars offer a happy hour on weekdays with $2 off cocktails. I tried the Goodlander Strawberry Basil cocktail with vodka and it was delicious! I recommend stopping by next time you are downtown to catch a local band and have a cocktail. It's open Tues. - Sun. from 11 am - 9 pm. They also have free yoga on Saturday mornings!
