Worth the drive, coming from vacation. There are many beaches to choose from yet many of the reviews on other beaches were stating there was sharks in the water, so anna maria beach it was. They offer free parking which was very easy to find. Or you can pay its up to you. The beach was beautiful yet as it got darker the waves were stronger & took you with them, just depends on the tides. Overall it was so much fun, took lots of pictures & memories i will not forget. I stumbled upon this spot by accident and was so happy I did. It's such a relaxing spot with jetties and small beach access. Small parking lot, but the spots freed up quickly as many people didn't stay long. I recommend stopping here if you're looking for a more quiet beach spot away from the crowds. read more

Unfortunately, the original pier sustained heavy damage during Hurricane Irma in 2017 and was reconstructed and opened back to the public in 2020. This is truly "Old Florida" with the opportunity to see beautiful sunrises, sea life, birds, dolphins and go fishing. They also have a bar/grill restaurant on the end along with a marine life museum. They offer live music at the end of the pier 4p-7p daily. Very clean modern bathrooms. It is longer than the Rod & Reel Pier but is only a .13 mile walk each way. Parking is very limited so unless you are early it might be better to walk or bike there. It is located at the east foot of historic Pine Street. I would definitely recommend for a multitude of reasons. read more

Since 1911... been a huge attraction for over 100 years. Visitors always love coming out, walking the pier, watching fishermen, and grabbing a bite to eat or a drink at the restaurant that sat at the end of the Pier. but sadly, all came to a stop in 2017 when the Pier was damaged by Hurricane Irma. The Pier had to be closed, completely demolished, and rebuilt. Luckily, all the hard work has come to an end, and as of 2020, the City Pier has re-opened as close to the original Pier that stood here before as possible. A picturesque historic site where visitors have been sightseeing for decades. A visit to the City Pier is a must while on island time. it was first used to drop off island "day trippers" coming by steamboat from St. Petersburg and the Mainland. At the end of the pier, you'll find a restaurant and a gift shop. Grab an ice cream cone and relax or bring your fishing pole to catch your own dinner. great place to see the sunset as well. Water was absolutely beautiful. Nice pier walk but there's no fence so I wouldn't bring little kids cus they could fall off accidentally. Water was super clear. The pier didn't have much to do!!! There was no wash station. I totally would have went swimming here the only issue is that there's no wash station!! The water here is so much prettier than manatee beach. So if you don't mind not washing off or walking to another beach for a wash station you should totally swim here. The water was super calm and there wasn't many waves if you're into that. I feel like when you walk to the end of the pier there should be more shops and eating places. There was only one eating place at the end of the pier and there was also the tiniest aquarium as well and it had shirts to sell. Nothing impressive at the end of the pier really. Additionally there is lots of fishermen. People go fishing all over the pier, so I guess there's lots of fish to see!! Overall this was nice to see I loved the water but wouldn't come back as there is not lots to do at the pier and there's no wash station. read more

I have always wanted to visit Anna Maria pier. Recently, very recently renovated. There is a small parking lot and also street parking. There are openings as you walk towards the entrance where, I assume anyone can sit and enjoy the rocks. The pier itself offers great views, benches along the way, and at the end, a reprieve from the heat with shaded seating to look out at the beautiful bay. The restaurant was not yet opened because of renovations but the bathrooms, like none I have ever seen in a public place, very clean. read more

If you've ever experienced the old City Pier you have fond memories of something that will never be able to be replicated and I'm not speaking of the food at the end of the pier, the old pier was originally constructed in 1911 and although the winds and waves have beaten it for decades and parts of this historic pier were damaged in storms in 1918, 1935, 1974 and 1988, each time the pier has been restored to its original form.   In September 2017 Hurricane Irma delivered the final blow and it appears that demolition was a better alternative in the minds of some than reconstruction, this pier was a very unique structure just the fact that the long planked walkway had no fall protection (no railings) installed made it one of the most amazing piers I've ever walked across. It reminded us of a time when people had to take total responsibility for themselves and their kids so if you were told to stay away from the edge there were consequences if you didn't listen and it's likely you were going to get wet, it certainly was a time when common sense prevailed. I'm sure the new pier under consideration will be a grand structure built to withstand anything Mother Nature can throw at it and most importantly jumpstart the tourism, yes there are many great things to see and do on this island but there's no doubt this was one of the star attractions and something that simply can't be erased and replaced without some sadness... read more

The Anna Maria City Pier is definitely a stop you should make when visiting the island. While it isn't the "historic" pier circa 1911 (it was rebuilt and reopened in 2020), it still provides a great way to get out over the bay and get some nice views of the surrounding area. While I didn't personally fish or eat on the pier, there are definitely good fishing opportunities (we saw several caught while walking!) and there's a snack bar on the backside as well. read more

The location is five star for sure and is just beautiful. This review is on the dining. Again what a beautiful location on the north end of Anna Maria island. It's quite and not a lot of people flock here like the ocean side beach's. The Resturant grill is located at the end of the dock. You order at one window and pick up your order at another. We had fish tacos and clam strips and a beer. The staff was very friendly. The fish tacos were three three inch corn tortillas with a corn salsa. They were soggy and very bland. No spice whatsoever. The clam strips were good. Typical deep fried fair. Also included was Cole slaw. All for $50.00. Little expensive for what was given. But it was fun. So if you want expensive ok food with a wonderful view, this is your place. read more

I didn't see the "snack bar" only option for the review, but we had lunch at the "snack bar" and I thought it was pretty good. They offer burgers, shrimp, clams and some sandwiches. With several orders we covered the bulk of the menu. When you eat on a fishing pier you hope the food doesn't taste like a week old bait bucket or worse - the pier bathroom. I'm not sure what it is about those, maybe out on the water some folks can't get their sea legs and they end up punishing the porcelain for it. The shrimp were double battered - not beer battered in a sense of an episode of cops on a Friday night in the trailer park, but they use a double egg wash for the breading so it is thick. If you're looking for Florida Cracker fish camp style shrimp these would miss the mark, but I thought the change was good and the shrimp were fresh. On of the burgers I saw resembled what I think a hockey puck looks like, but I was told it was good. The clams were good and the fries and hush puppies were good too. One note on the pups, they come with some type of lemon butter dipping sauce that was pretty good. If the pups can't hold up on their own don't try to cover it up with a dip - but these hush puppies seemed to be a traditional recipe and were fried to perfection. I'll also note I didn't have to fight any birds for my food. That can be a challenge when unsuspecting visitors start sharing their food with sea gulls and pelicans. The birds then tend to share their fecal matter at high velocities as they soar overhead. Maybe they can look to do a promo with that. Get pooped on by a bird and get a free side of hush puppies or an ice cream cone or something. As per my usual the rating is halted at 4 stars due to the sale of Pepsi products. Maybe that is what they are using to keep the birds away? Overall I'm glad to see the pier back open. It is a really great spot. ********* My Standardized Yelp Ratings 5 stars - This is for a place that I see as one of the best at what they do (steaks, sandwiches, BBQ, seafood, etc). 5s are for places I've been several times (typically) at least and never had an "off" experience. The food quality, service, price and atmosphere are all going to meet or exceed expectations. 4 stars - This is for a place that is good, I would drive a little out of the way to go, and the food and service is good, but maybe not amazing. Also for me, this could also be a great place that serves Pepsi products - automatic 1 star loss - bad management decision. 3 stars - This is for a place that I view as standard. Nothing special, nothing lousy, not a place you'd avoid like the plague, but a place that is not one you really look forward to either. 2 stars - This is for a place that had something go wrong or something perpetually wrong. The food and or service is likely consistently suspect here (they probably serve Pepsi too). 1 star - I can't see wasting time writing a review on a place that gets a 1 star. Tartar sauce was outside baking in the sun, when asked if I could have fresh tartar sauce, she refused to give it to me. I'm still in shock over this. Must arrive while sun is up and leave after dark. I went to this place with my parents. I got the grilled Mahi Mahi with a Caesar salad and my parents got a burger. Food was good, but my fish was not worth the $22 price. If you're coming here it's best to get a burger, which my parents said the thoroughly enjoyed. This place is all about the ambience, it's right in the water and great place to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset, even though you won't have a direct view of the sun dissapearing. Food offerings are costly and awkward...weird menu list. One of our orders was the wedge salad. Its probably a full head of lettuce cut in half with some seasoning. Wow. Impressive. I also had the additional grilled chicken added for $6. Needed a microscope to see where it was. Not worth it. Fish is ridiculously costly, which considering the Gulf of Mexico is 6 feet away, is bizarre. The venue is probably best for a few draft beers and bring your own food. Sometimes there are old time musicians singing old tunes from the 60s and 70s. Sometimes a dolphin pops up. Keep your food expectations real low and you cannot be underwhelmed. read more

Met some friends from Michigan for dinner at the Pier. First time at the restaurant which is at the end of the pier. Not fancy but view is great and service was really good. So it is a typical Florida seafood restaurant with a lot of seafood and fish. Several ordered lobster bisque and were impressed with the amount of lobster and with the taste. Wife had coconut shrimp appetizer with bisque and said it was a great combo. Several of us had the fish baskets which were good but not remarkable. Typical fried fish dinners. They do offer many other options for the seafood. So I would go back for several reasons. View, wait staff and reasonable priced meals. read more

Very terrible unclean place. The wait was unbelievable long, and the food is way over priced while it wasn't even worth it. When I finished, I was sitting out where the workers were smoking and heard a lot of nasty things, and cussing way unsuitable for my niece and nephew! Went here our last night and had a decent meal with the family. Prefer the Rod and Reel Pier Restaurant slightly but this was probably more family friendly and spacious. Friendly service.
