He now has a very solid foundation onto which I can continue to build at home. I was initially considering another training place before I found Sierra dogs. Come to find out, not all trainers are created equal, as they were going to use a shock collar on my puppy. I couldn't even believe it! Eden and her employee Jess use a positive training approach....encouraging good behavior with rewards and praise and discouraging the unwanted behaviors by re-focusing the dog back into a desirable behavior. Because Blue lived with her at her clean, puppy-safe home, she not only taught him the basics but also more advanced training like recall and "leave it". She incorporated day-to-day living into his training, teaching him the skills needed to be a generally well behaved 7 month old puppy that actually respects the other small dogs in our household! Her large fenced property allowed for plenty of appropriate play time and socializing with the other Sierra dogs in her care including her own beautiful huskies...Luna, Vesta and Francis. When it was time for Blue to come home, Eden spent a lot of time going over everything and showing us how to continue on with his training at home. However, I realized almost immediately that she had some serious behavioral issues--specifically intense leash aggression and barking--that I simply wasn't equipped to handle alone. After researching local options, I gave Bill at Sierra K9 a call. It was clear right away that he has a genuine passion for what he does. He took the time to listen to my specific goals: I needed Sky to truly become part of my "pack" and be well-behaved enough to join me at breweries, and events. Bill outlined his methods and experience in great detail, and we sat down to map out exactly what it would take to get her there. I opted for the two-week intensive Board-and-Train program. Bill made it clear that the training wouldn't end when I picked her up; he committed to meeting with me for as long as it took for me to feel confident. Throughout those two weeks, Bill and his wife, Shelby, sent regular progress reports, photos, and videos. Seeing her thrive gave me so much peace of mind--it was obvious she was making strides and was incredibly well cared for. On pickup day, Bill and I had a thorough hand-off session. While I was impressed with Sky's progress, Bill was honest with me: the foundation was there, but the real work was just beginning for both of us. When we got back home, I'll admit I struggled. The leash reactivity and pulling returned, and I felt completely hopeless. But Bill and Shelby didn't leave me hanging. They checked in daily, "talked me off the ledge" more than once, and quickly scheduled an in-person session at my house. When Bill arrived, he could tell I was frustrated. He calmly reminded me of the process and took Sky's leash; she immediately "snapped back into shape"--no pulling, no barking, just focus. He carefully observed my handling, gave me manageable homework, and, most importantly, helped me reframe my mindset. He taught me that training isn't a chore; it's an exercise in patience and a form of therapy for both the owner and the dog. Fast forward one month: I've been working with Sky every day and meeting with Bill weekly (and he is always perfectly on time). The transformation is night and day. While she's still a little better on the leash with him than with me (haha!), she is truly a different dog. I know now that with time and Bill's continued guidance, Sky is going to fit in perfectly. I'm actually enjoying the work, we celebrate the wins together, and I am sincerely grateful to the Sierra K9 team.

I signed my dog up online for agility 2 weeks before the class was scheduled to start. I did not receive any receipt or confirmation, but the money was withdrawn from my account. I did not hear anything from Competition Canine so I went ahead and called the day before his class was set to start, just so I could confirm. The person on the phone informed me that the class was cancelled! And was not even apologetic. They told me that the trainer was supposed to reach out and they would have her reach out to me. That would have been nice to know that the class was cancelled, I don't think it's too much to send out a simple email or text message. I'm just glad I didn't drive all the way out there to show up to a cancelled class. Well another week goes by and they finally let me know via email that I can sign up for another class or get a refund. I responded to their email asking for specifics regarding the other class that they had available as an option. I did not hear anything back. So another week goes by and at this point I'm not interested in their business so I send them another email asking for a refund for the class. I still have not heard anything back! I had to contact my bank to dispute the charge due to Competition Canine's negligence or just lack of customer service. I just don't understand how they can run a business like this. Not only were they incredibly inconsiderate of my time (if a class is cancelled that's ok, but just let me know), but to withdraw the money from my account and not respond to my inquiries? Seems fraudulent to me...I'd rather go elsewhere where there is real and considerate communication.
