I've gotten the same service when it is just me and when I'm there with eight students, a handful of chaperones and only one employee. WOWOWOW - I scream, you scream, I scream for ice cream!! My friend recommended this place to check out in downtown Annapolis and it did NOT disappoint. We went after lunch for a treat and were greeted with cute plush penguins in the windows, several signs of best ice cream in the country (love me some accolades), and an extensive menu. I settled in a single scoop in a waffle cone, with salted caramel and peanut butter Oreo. Both were delicious - so so creamy and just the right amount of sweetness! We visited here and enjoyed some fantastic ice cream, which happens to be my favorite food group. There were so many flavor choices that it was difficult to make a selection, but we all finally settled on 2 scoops in bowls for each of us. The shop is extremely cute and appears well maintained. When they stepped in after "Penguin Ice Cream," the town's reaction ranged from cautious optimism to full-on "there's no way they can pull this off." Turns out, they not only pulled it off, they built an ice cream empire that is somehow both proud and humble, and absolutely deserving of the throne. First, the ice cream itself. It's so good you start to believe there's some secret back room where the staff personally brainstorm flavor ideas with the cows. I'm talking a full-on roundtable discussion, complete with feed bags and whiteboards, followed by feeding those cows the perfect blend of ingredients so the ice cream comes out "fresh from the tap." You can't prove me wrong. The flavors are rich, creamy, and downright addictive. Every scoop feels like a direct pipeline to a higher plane of happiness. And they don't skimp either. Scoops are generous enough that you may briefly wonder if you need a gym membership... or just another scoop. Then there's the staff. This is not your typical "I'm-just-here-for-the-paycheck" ice cream crew. These are people who actually seem to love being there. You can tell they're appreciated and respected by ownership, which is more than I can say for some other locally owned spots where the vibe is more "You're lucky we even unlocked the door." Here, every "What can I get for you?" comes with an actual smile, not the corporate-training-manual kind, but the genuine "I'm about to hand you joy in a cone" kind. Saturday 11/25/2023 I remember trying this place for the first time back in summer 2021 and all I really remember was them not having a cookies n cream flavor at the time but that's about it. They serve plenty of unique and tasty flavors like carrot cake, apple pie, chocolate fudge brownie, and cookies n cream (the ones I sampled). The service was solid: they were patient and had no problem with me sampling multiple flavors. I ended up getting a triple cup of 1 scoop chocolate fudge brownie and 2 scoop cookies n cream for $6.95. The ice cream was pretty good. The cookies n cream was my favorite but right behind it was the chocolate fudge brownie. All in all, this was a pretty good ice cream experience that I would recommend and be open to returning to. I came here a few weeks ago to grab some ice cream after lunch and there was quite a line inside, but it moved fast! I tried their coffee ice cream and it was delicious! I got a single scope, but it was huge! They also have a big light up sign inside that is definitely Instagram worthy. If you walk a couple of blocks up the hill that the shop is on, you can see the port and it's a beautiful spot to take some photos at! Now I must say my only reason for giving them 3 stars is because I am very particular when it comes to ice cream. The staff is some of the nicest, most patient group of people and the ice cream selection is vast and immaculate for any ice cream lover. My only qualm is that the ice cream is very sweet and I definitely get a headache after eating just 1-2 scoops. I personally prefer less sweet ice cream with fewer additives/coloring. The Only Review You Need To Read This place came highly recommended by a friend of mine, and according to signs out in front of the place, it's been rated the best ice cream in Annapolis every year since 2004. With pedigrees like that, obviously I had to check it out. I realized there must be something to that claim because there was a huge line when we entered the place. Even though there were two girls working, the line moved pretty well. Long story short, the accolades were justified - it was very good ice cream. I got chocolate chip (lots of big chips) and my funny little hunny had butter pecan (lots of huge pecan pieces). The place is rather small so there weren't a lot of places to sit, but we got lucky in finding a table. After we sat down to start eating, the line grew all the way to the front door of the place. Granted, it was a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon, so it's not unheard of to want ice cream under those conditions. However, we definitely will be going back to this place the next time we're in town because it is pretty good ice cream. Though there is a soft serve ice cream place that's part of a nationwide chain just down the street, you really could find one of their locations elsewhere and go any other time - give the local place your business because the girls there are friendly, they work hard, it's really good and you won't be disappointed. I went to Annapolis ice cream company for the second time this Sunday. I was disappointed that they didn't have their dirt putting ice cream, which I regard as their best but I did get to try their one flew over the cookies nest ice cream, which was a combination of brownie, sea salt caramel, and cookies and cream. You would think that with all three of those flavors, it would be incredibly sweet and overpowering, but it was actually a lot more subtle than I expected and definitely not too sweet. The staff members were happy to let me sample different things and happy to answer any of my allergy questions and they had plenty of people there for ice cream on a day that was only 50°. I also sampled their lemon poppyseed ice cream which I almost went with and probably will get next time. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would and I am a lemon fan! There is some small seating in there, but I took my ice cream to go and ate it down by the docks. read more
