Why I decided to try hypnotherapy…read more For me, hypnotherapy was a low risk high move. I became interested in it after doing a lot of research on the manifestation of trauma in the brain and the body, and I felt like the principles behind hypnotherapy was supported by the modern day science. My experience with Michael Nolan *Disclaimer*: I'm trying to be as transparent as possible, but it's entirely possible that your experience will be completely different than mine. We spent the first hour talking about what I was trying to work on, which was my relationship with my parents. Michael has a very calming presence. We talked about the role of my feelings, the different neurological pathways that impact the way I feel, and how those pathways are shaped by events in early development. It was by far the most helpful one hour lecture on neuroscience I've ever had. Michael combines science with spirituality in a way that completes the picture. In the second hour, I was put into a relaxed state. I usually have trouble relaxing anywhere that's not my bed but I found myself able to relax fully here. We worked on changing my feelings around negative events. Afterwards, we discussed what I felt and Michael gave me recommendations on resources to check out. After the treatment, I remained in a state of blissful relaxation for about a day. However, even when the relaxed state was no longer there and I started feeling the negative feelings again, I was able to recognize the feeling and understand why it was there, which was highly valuable for me. My advice for getting the most out of the experience Everyone's journey to healing is different. As great as the experience was, I don't think you should go into it with the expectation that it is a miracle drug which will solve all your problems but rather think of it as a puzzle piece which helps you gain a better understanding of yourself. In addition, try to be as vulnerable and honest as possible about what you're trying to heal from.

What I like about the experience is that it gave me a chance to PROCESS the issue that I came to work on before we did the hypnotherapy. Andrew is an excellent listener, and he provides constructive feedback to really help me clearly identify and understand my problem and how to solve it. Andrew is professional. He provides a digital recording of the session that I added to my iPod so I can listen to it over and over - extremely helpful. Andrew is so good that the effects of the session last for a long time. Highly recommended!!

I lacked discipline. My ego was larger than life and I was living in general unmanageable. My life was spiraling downwards fast. I knew I wanted to not only preserve what little sobriety but grow in my recovery. The counselors were not warm and fuzzy. There wasn't an exercise room or any of the frills other treatment centers offer. What they had was a firm understanding of the 12 steps and 12 traditions. They did not reference various books and texts but used AA approved literature and the 24 hour book. I highly recommend this program if you want the meat and potatoes of recovery. It's been 23 years snd I'm still sober and in the AA fellowship.

The counselors were extremely mean and rude and it was a very disempowering experience. I would not wish this place on my worst enemy. I am currently studying addiction at McMaster University and from what I am learning, these women who work here really have no idea what empathy and compassion is, nor do they understand that women need to be nurtured, not scorned and punished. Yet they call themselves women of AA, a program which is supposed to help people, not bring them down. My advice to you is to find a place which empowers their clients, not disempowers them. Find a place that incorporates trauma-informed care with a feminist approach to practice. There are so many other treatment centres out there, I highly recommend not choosing this one!!

We analyzed patterns, feelings, and routines surrounding my food addiction. The hypnosis was very interesting. I found Didi extremely knowledgable; she's excellent at explaining brain patterns and she's very easy to be around. I was quite embarrassed and feeling a lot of shame and Didi washed that away. I am now without my food dependence. I feel indifferent and unenthusiastic about a once very controlling indulgence. I recommend visiting Didi asap. She is life-changing!

She eliminated it in a single session and even found the root cause for me, which was remarkable and interesting. A separate time I was having issues with some very specific (and fattening) food addictions and was unable to stop them on my own, in spite of knowing a lot about nutrition. I asked Didi to give me aversions to the foods, because I did not want to eat them any more and actually WANTED to be totally disgusted and unable to eat those really unhealthy things. Her strategy was extremely effective, and a year later have still not eaten any of the foods we worked on, the ones I had no control over. I am a professional hypnotist as well, and speaking not only as a client but as someone who understand the field: Didi is remarkably knowledgeable and skilled, she's the professional that professionals go to and excels at her craft.

FInding a family doctor is hard, so when I moved downtown 10 years ago, I discovered that I couldn't find a family doctor, but I could be assigned to a Nurse Practitioner at WCH Family Practice. For those reluctant to opt for a Nurse Practitioner, I can tell you from my experience, it is better than a family doctor. Anything they can handle on their own is done quickly because you can see them sooner than the overbooked doctors, and when there is something they can't handle, it is referred to a doctor in the clinic or a specialist, so it is the best of both worlds. My Nurse practitioner retired last year and I ended up becoming a patient of one of the doctors in the clinic, and while she is a great doctor, WCH is a teaching hospital, so she is only in the clinic twice a week, so appointments are hard to get. However, WCH family practice offers urgent care appointments in the evenings, so if a doctor can't see you that day, you can see one in the evening, instead of going to a walk in clinic or emergency. The clinic is very accessible, something I appreciated after my knee surgery.
