She greeted me with a warm hug on the patio outside the charming massage studio. Barb is warm, caring and professional. We chatted for a while - about life and my needs - before she got to work. I have had many, many massages over the past 20 years. At chiropractors' offices, spas, salons, in-home and resorts. Barb is a gem! Her technique is amazing and she does not miss a detail. She used lovely oils, a few hot stones and hot towels during our time together (no extra charge). Most importantly, I could tell Barb was present. Really present. She was "listening" to my body and adjusting the massage to meet my needs. I felt her focus and attention for the full 90 minutes - this is so rare! Many therapists mean well but must be thinking about their dirty laundry or grocery list. With Barb you won't have that same old predictable massage that is virtually the same for each appointment and each client. Barb asked for feedback before, during and after the massage. For $35 you get a 10 minute chair massage, 30 minute reflexology foot massage, a foot bath and even some jasmine tea. The lady that runs it is a doctor from China and she really knows what she's doing... this isn't like those Ventura mall guys that just beat you to death and call it massage. If you've never had real reflexology before it can hurt a little, but it really stays with you all day. The staff will scale it back for you if you tell them to. They're on the first floor of the mall next to Johnny Rockets, and the only negative is that the mall management put kiddie rides right in front of this place. So sometimes there are screaming kids which kills the vibe. They just crank up the Chinese zen music and close the doors though which helps. Also if you're a guy like me you'll want to bring your own magazine to read during the treatment... you won't like the selection that's there.
