When we arrived, they take your drink order (for later) and then we went into the cat room. We were supplied some cat treats which they all went crazy for. The cats mellowed out after the treats were done and did cat stuff like laying around, chasing things, climbing things, etc. Once our time slot was done, we exited the room and then had our drinks. I'm already forgetting what we all had, but each of us thought the drinks had great flavor. Also, we stayed downtown that weekend and getting to the Cafe was a quick & easy drive along Portage.

I love seeing what a community is discarding or donating for a second life, and I love the people in thrift stores who are all, like me, looking for a treasure, however they'll define that. And I especially love the community spirit of these small town shops where folks - mostly older ladies - are hanging out and exchanging news and giving old items new purpose and raising money to help each other out. The MCC thrift stores are I think my favourite. Mennonite Community shops in prairie towns. You have to get lucky here just like everywhere else, nothing in life is guaranteed, but anywhere you can thrift with an older community that values quality goods, and where demand is low you are going to find some beautiful things at very low prices. The Kildonan MCC is a Winnipeg example of the above, not as exceptional as the ones in smaller towns, but it's not in the city center either, and it's quite large and we did find some gems here and definitely found good vibes.

They seem to have changed their business structure for the worst. Sure they provide a 20% off coupon but it doesn't matter if you bring in five huge bags or one small one you only get one coupon. Their prices have also skyrocketed in recent years and not all people can afford to shop there. Have often found dollar store items priced much higher than they would be in the dollar store, based on the sticker still on the item. Think about your community and do better value Village!
