I am writing to formally report what was, without question, the most disturbing, negligent, and dangerous healthcare experience my family has ever encountered. The care--or lack thereof--that my mother received at your facility directly resulted in a life-threatening medical emergency and could have cost her life. My mother was left with an indwelling catheter that appeared not to have been properly flushed, cleaned, or maintained for an extended period of time. The condition of this catheter was visibly unsanitary and showed clear signs of neglect. Within two days, my mother became septic. When I raised immediate concerns to the night nurse, Marcia, and explicitly stated that the catheter appeared infected and required urgent attention, my concerns were completely dismissed. I was told that my mother "just needs to drink more water." No assessment, no escalation, no intervention--just dismissal. At that point, my mother already had a UTI, which subsequently triggered a recurrence of MRSA that entered her bloodstream. As her condition rapidly deteriorated, I was forced to raise my voice and demand that an ambulance be called. Had I not advocated aggressively, I am convinced my mother would not be alive today. Once in the Emergency Room, the hospitalist physician stated plainly that bringing her in saved her life and that this situation "could have been deadly." The physician further advised me not to allow my mother to return to your facility if staff are unable to recognize such obvious and dangerous changes in a patient's condition, calling it a major red flag. My mother was admitted and remains on intensive antibiotic treatment at a different facility. She is now recovering from an infection that was entirely preventable. This is my second formal complaint regarding this facility. Additionally, after informing others that my mother was placed in your care, multiple individuals independently warned me not to allow her to stay there, citing repeated patterns of neglect and lack of concern for patient safety. That alone speaks volumes. This facility is not just negligent--it is dangerous. Based on my experience, it is a death trap for vulnerable patients. I have photographic evidence documenting my mother's infection and the condition of her catheter. While this platform does not allow uploads, I am prepared to provide this evidence immediately upon request. I expect this complaint to be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. What happened to my mother is unacceptable, unethical, and a gross violation of basic standards of care. No family should ever have to fight this hard to keep their loved one alive. Sad what patients with Medicare or Medicaid have as a choice for rehab when there are no other financial options. write your representatives. I'm sure all other rehabs are the same.

In either case get an aid if you can afford one but Harbours edge is way more attentive.

Cons: Angela Newman-Winsome was very condescending with my father. She asked us what staff member we had spoken to the previous night. I couldn't remember. I asked my Dad who it was, and Angela snapped, "He's not going to know that!" before my dad could answer. She also asked us a question in the hallway about my dad's new medication. She was closest to my dad, but she asked me instead. I work as a Direct Support Professional for adults with special needs. Nothing annoys me more than when people (especially those in the healthcare field) totally disrespect people who have disabilities by assuming what their limitations are instead of addressing the individual first in a respectful manner and giving them a chance to answer. Angela may need some additional training in this area. A young man in housekeeping grabbed paper towels from the dispenser in my Dad's room, went to the toilet and wiped down something in there and then wiped the sink, faucet handles, and soap dispenser. I went to the nursing station and got disinfectant wipes and wiped down all the surfaces he had wiped with the dirty paper towel. I went out to the nurses station and got disinfecting wipes to clean up after him. My dad was not supposed to walk at all. His wheelchair (a very basic wheelchair) did not fit in the bathroom, so he had to stand and walk to get to the toilet. The doctor who referred my father to the nursing home told him he would go home, because he shouldn't do the physical therapy yet. Wilton Manors kept delaying his release. Every day, they told him he could see the doctor the next day and be released, but then he would never see the doctor. I told Angela Newman-Winsome that this was starting to feel like insurance fraud. I finally called my dad's insurance company to get him released. His insurance company called the nursing home and got him released. So, if they try to pull that same nonsense with your loved one, you might want to call their insurance company.

She tells me she likes it there. The staff is very kind and patient. At the nursing station, Richard goes out of his way to make sure she is cared for and happy. Because of some skin wounds, the process of moving her back to the memory care facility was very complex. Thats when the Discharge Coordinator Ginger saved the day by coordinating the complex interactions of the: wound doctor, Medicare, and the memory care facility. She was very kind, diligent, and clever through it all. I am so glad that Isles Nursing has such fine employees. It is a great operation!
