I have been a client of the babysitting company since June 2017 (4.5 years). I was always impressed the business owner (Rachel) could answer the call before it went to voicemail, regardless of the hour. And I was always impressed she could provide a sitter with as little as 4 hours notice (but that demands a $100 additional fee). In 4.5 years I have never had the same sitter twice, I've been overcharged (and rightfully refunded) and I've had some incredibly odd sitters. (Once I had to calm a sitter by text because she felt "triggered" by having to sit in a bedroom with a baby for 4 hours that only had one exit, as most bedrooms do, which she believed was a hazard to her safety. Another time I came home at 11pm to find neither child (babies) had been put to bed and instead were watching tv and crying miserably.) Recently Rachel expanded her business to many cities and raised her rate from $25 per hour for 1-2 children to $35 per hour. There are fees for bookings made with less than 24 hour notice, fees for any last minute cancellations, fees for bookings beginning after midnight, and fees for any hour changes made within a booking. If you book until a set time and come home an hour early, you will still be charged the entire "reservation." I don't even want to get into the ludicrous "holiday", some of which are above $70 an hour for 1 child. This morning I called Rachel and requested a sitter for tonight: 6pm-2am. To my surprise I was assigned a sitter that had been here before! The sitter texted me that she was happy to come again. An hour later I asked the sitter if she'd be willing to come at 7:30pm and stay until 2:30am. (I realized we might be coming home later than 6pm and I didn't want the sitter sitting in my driveway waiting.) The sitter said she had no problem with the time change but I had to notify Rachel. Rachel was happy to make the modification on the condition I pay $52.50 for the hours of 6pm-7:30pm, since that was the start time I originally requested. I asked if she'd be willing to make a one-time exception (for a long time client), because I had made this booking literally 1 hour ago. She refused. (This "no exceptions" is written in bold capital print in all her emails.") She stated her refusal to make this exception ensured quality service. I was so turned off I cancelled the booking immediately, and said I did not consent to being charged any further cancel fees. So instead of earning a minimum of $245 (with gratuity and who knows what additional fees, ..it likely would have amounted to close to $300), Rachel's greed for that additional $52.50 lost her a client for life and any future referrals of mine. I do not even want to detail how many tens of thousands of dollars myself and my family have spent with Rachel in the past 4.5 years. And from what former sitters have alluded to, their earnings are much closer to just above minimum wage than the $35 per hour she charges. The Babysitting Company frequently sends email promotions encouraging clients to purchase memberships and package deals costing hundreds to thousands, but boasting a minimal discount that really isn't worth the trouble. These desperate grabs and high sitter turnover rate must indicate the company is not doing as well as Rachel makes it seem. I can only wonder why! EDIT: in response to your response Rachel, how can you claim to be advocating for your employee when she lost a job tonight, which she verbalized she had no problem moving back 1.5 hour, due to your greed? Are you forgetting November 17, 2020 I made a 3 day booking 9 days in advance and received a different sitter on all 3 days DESPITE my requests for THE SAME PERSON? Please don't get on here and lie to make yourself look good. And while you're posting your excessive fees on your emails, post how much percent you give your employees too. I'm interested. read more

We needed a babysitter to watch our children while we were in town for a wedding. We didn't want to find a random person for obvious reasons, so we went with the Babysitting Company based in part on their excellent reviews. They were super responsive at the booking phase. The sitter we received was a woman named Susana. She showed up on time, in a Babysitting Company tshirt, with a suitcase of toys to keep the kids occupied in the hotel room. She asked how I wanted updates throughout the night (I chose text updates every hour). My kids LOVED her. They said she was so much fun. I was worried my kids would struggle being stuck in the hotel room from 4 until late at night, but she kept them occupied no problem. If I ever need babysitting services in an area serviced by the Babysitter Company, I'll definitely use them again. They arrived on-time, where identifiable t-shirts and were professional. We received their bios ahead of time, so I knew exactly who they were. I found The Babysitting Company by doing a search on, what else, Yelp! My husband and I were headed to Miami with our 14-month-old for the Orange Bowl, and needed someone to watch him for (yikes) 12 HOURS. No way were we taking him to a game starting at 8:30 pm! Anyway, after doing some additional research and speaking with the gracious owner, Rachel, I felt very comfortable with the service. Rachel was very professional, forwarding me a bio of our sitter right after booking with her. My sitter, Paloma, was so sweet and very experienced. I had no doubts leaving my little one in her capable and caring hands. We checked in with Paloma a couple of times that day, and there were no problems whatsoever. She even somehow managed to get our son to nap in his crib that afternoon, which we never managed to accomplish ourselves in the hotel room during our 5-day stay! If I had any gripe whatsoever, it would be that the prices are really high based on my experience with other similar services in Maui, Manhattan and my hometown of San Francisco. I wouldn't expect Miami to cost more than all of these places, and I wonder if that's part of why they do not list their rates on their website! That said, I was so happy and comfortable with the service, it is hard for me to ding them for cost. This is the first review i have ever done but felt compelled to warn others about this awful babysitting service! We booked them 4 times during our trip. The first two times we were charged $35 per hour instead of the agreed $25 per hour. Then we wanted to change one of the dates of our bookings from one night to the next night (1st Jan to 2nd Jan). We gave the company 60 hours notice for the change and was informed we would still be charged $190 for the 1st regardless. This was made up of a $50 booking fee and $35\hour with a 4 hr minimum. When we complained that this was an incredibly rigid, unaccommodating and un-user-friendly attitude for a company that is supposed to help families on vacation, the woman (Rachel) on the phone then cancelled all of our remaining babysitters for the rest of our trip because we dared to complain about the $190 cancellation charge with 60 hours notice! read more

I was very nervous using a company I hadn't used before as we rarely use a sitter, but it happened that both my husband and I had to work on a Saturday. Our Babysitter, Annik arrived ten minutes early, we were not ready and late with Wedding photos. She sat and waited so patiently. She provided her ID without any qualms and had paperwork for us to provide her infant care and needs. We put the baby to sleep and she waited. This review is long overdue. I've been using The Babysitting Company for 4years (LA, Miami, NYC) -- and have had the most wonderful sitters. Last night, we had another incredible sitter and TBC experience. Cayla (our sitter) had sat for our family once before and she learned that our boys love to bake and kitchen-create. Last night, Cayla arrived and out of her babysitter's bag (all of The Babysitting Co sitters come with a Mary Poppins' bag of games and fun) Cayla pulled out a cookie mix. My boys were thrilled, and once again, my husband and I were impressed by The Babysitting Co's uber stellar sitters. Since we arrived home late last night after the boys were already in bed, we didn't get the full recap until this morning. Breakfast this morning was lively. I recently had to travel to Miami for work and decided to bring the family along and extend the vacation. My husband and I were attending an event and needed a sitter to come to our hotel for the evening. Although my children (8 and 2 years old) have had sitters before, typically they've been either family or people they know. I came across the Babysitting Company on Yelp and found out they were commonly used at the hotel we were staying at (Fontainebleau).I reached out to get additional details and ended up speaking with Rachel (the owner). Rachel was extremely helpful and provided me with all of the information I needed (including bio / background of the sitter). I booked the sitter about 1-week in advance of my trip and received a confirmation email with all the details. The day before I arrived in Miami, I found out that there was an additional evening event that I needed to attend. I contacted Rachel and fortunately, she was able to secure the same sitter for both nights without a problem. Our sitter, Carolina, arrived right on time with a bag full of games/activities. She immediately came in and made herself comfortable with the kids. We hired her to come in 45 mins before we needed to leave, so the kids could get comfortable. Honestly, that wasn't even necessary. Within 15 mins my oldest was completely comfortable and that helped the 2-year old realize everything was "ok". We got back to the room 5 hours later and both kids were completely knocked out. The next day Carolina came back (right on time) and provided the same high level of care. At the end of each night, Carolina left a brief overview of how the night was, as well as the hours she worked. The Babysitting Company processed my card on the back end, so there was no exchange or anything to sign off on at the end of the night. Overall I had a great experience.
