Annmarie is absolutely wonderful to work with! I've always loved singing and have sung for church and small performances when I was in college, but after having COVID-19 my lungs were affected and so was my singing, causing my confidence to fizzle down. Not to be dramatic, but taken lessons with Annmarie for the last 2 years literally changed my life. I'm 28 now and started singing when I was in middle school. I had jumped around from vocal coaches throughout my life; none of them stuck because I felt like I wasn't learning anything valuable and they were all a waste of money. In college I was in a jazz band that was competitive and at times toxic. That experience left me with so many insecurities about my voice. I developed a love hate relationship with singing, and lots of anxiety when it came to performing. I still had a real desire to improve my singing, but I could never find a teacher with technical knowledge until I met Annmarie. Not only is Annmarie insanely knowledgeable about vocal technique, she really cares about her students. She helped build up my confidence to feel comfortable singing in front of people again. She also taught me the techniques on how I can cater my voice to suit different songs, like trying different placements, dynamic control, adding more breath or chest voice, etc. In addition to voice lessons, Annmarie has taught me music theory from scratch! It always seemed like a really unapproachable subject, but she teaches it in a very easy to understand way. I love that every week I can decide what to work on, whether it's voice or theory. Annmarie also came to one of my live performances with a band and was able to give me some technical notes when performing on stage, like only wearing one in-ear monitor to hear myself better, and try not to stand in front of the drummer so the audience can hear me. Working with AnnMarie has changed my life. It's a two-parter. 1) I've been singing my whole life, I did choir in school, I performed in tons of musical theatre, and even took voice lessons for several years at USC. Despite the experience I had prior to starting lessons with her, I never realized how much there was for me to learn and truthfully re-learn CORRECTLY. Over years of singing before working with AnnMarie, I formed such bad habits vocally and technically that she has helped me fix and continually improve. I'm a stronger and more confident singer than I've ever been. Her methodology, starting with the basics and moving into more advanced technique based on actual improvement has been the most valuable. She's a "no-bullshit" teacher. We work on certain things when I am ready to. I also love the way our lessons run. With other teachers, I used to take a song to a lesson and perfect it before I moved on to something else. But AnnMarie uses the songs that I pick to teach the techniques, the song is the vehicle for learning so I don't feel the pressure to perfect anything in order to move on. 2) I really never feel better than when I leave my lesson. There are days where I struggle in my personal life, mentally or emotionally and am very inert to doing anything. But AnnMarie is therapy. I feel so incredibly jazzed and it turns my whole day around when I work with her. She is very encouraging, helps instill confidence, and so much of what I learn in voice and piano are lessons that I apply to my daily life and even my relationships. There are a lot of choices when it comes to vocal and piano lessons. What I love the most about AnnMarie is her way of teaching feels like you're diving right in and learning and growing immediately. I've taken lessons before with teachers who are 100% theory-first, which is ideal, I think, if you're starting out at a young age, but I'm in my 30s and I wanted to not burn out on the technique stuff. My 10 year old has been doing private voice lessons with AnnMarie for about 6 months and she really enjoys it! In the beginning, we were only looking for some short-term coaching for a challenging musical theater audition, but after the audition was over, my daughter wanted to keep the lessons going. AnnMarie is very sweet and encouraging (and has an incredible voice herself!), but she also challenges my daughter to try things that she doesn't think she can do. I loved taking vocal and piano classes with Anne Marie! In a very short amount of time I was able to gain so much knowledge from her and improve my piano and singing skills. When it comes to singing, she explained everything very throughly, from how to engage my diaphragm to how to reach high notes that I never thought I could reach.
