Very reasonable pricing, no contracts, tons of class times, and great people. All levels, from beginners to black belts, train here. The environment is very welcoming. Competition is encouraged but not required, and there are many very successful competitors here in different age ranges, weight classes, and belt levels. Focusing on the kid's side for this review: Started about 3 years ago with my 4 year old daughter. We came for a trial class and enjoyed it, so decided to keep training. Another big factor was the female ownership and strong female membership. I wanted my daughter to have those examples to look up to. We have never done any martial arts or wrestling before, so I wasn't sure how either of us would fair. My daughter loves her coaches and they really do a great job of keeping things fun yet disciplined and engaging. They all genuinely care about their students. They make sure everyone is safe and working together in a controlled way. Coach Jen and Coach Kat started her off with Wee Warriors and the basic skills. She has been able to move up and promote into the more advanced classes with Coach Kari and Coach Eli. She also loves helping with the younger kids whenever she can with Coach (and owner) Karen, Coach Eli, or Coach Jen. It's nice that all of the coaches generally work together and help eachother, and there are many other coaches that I am sure I am neglecting to mention who have contributed to my daughter's progress. The lessons are consistent no matter who is leading the class, and generally build on the previous lessons or review skills already taught. Plenty of private and small group lessons available as well for extra training if desired. The more my daughter participates and engages with her coaches, friends, training partners, and other competitors, the more she enjoys being at Genesis Jiu Jitsu. After asking around, different people tried to get me to join their school, but when I checked them out, they appeared very stereotypical, macho-oriented, which turned me off. When I found out about this RCJ Machado location, I got excited. I came in and Hugo, the office manager, was really friendly and helpful. I came back a couple of days later with my gi and tried out a class. I signed up right after the class. I previously trained with another Machado black belt, this place maintains the same high quality teaching and training as any other school run by a Machado black belt. Marcos is a great instructor who gives everyone equal amount of time. Unlike other places were instructors have favorite students, Marcos makes sure that he works with everyone, often going around doing drills individually with everyone in class to make sure that we all get it. But the instruction goes beyond Marcos and Hugo, as advanced students are helpful in working with new students as well. There are no egos here and everyone is willing to work with one another. This is simply a great place for anyone that is serious about training in jiu jitsu at a high level.

Since starting five months ago my kids have grown tremendously in strength, agility, discipline, and have learned how to handle their bodies. I have developed as well, and my daughter and I competed in our first tournament yesterday and did very well. My wife has even started training so the whole family has a place here. Coach Wes is a highly skilled black belt who can teach those nuances that make or break a technique, and Coach Sara's fitness classes are intense from what I have seen.
