My barber (I didn't get her name) blamed road congestion on immigration, and told me how she thinks the country needs to "crack down on immigrants". Although I don't look it, my mother is Chinese, and I was very unimpressed by her comments. Even after I told her that, she continued on her "country's full" talking points, which I couldn't help feeling were slightly pointed. Not the kind of environment I need to put myself into. On top of that, the back of my hair's uneven! I'm willing to give this place another shot, but will make a point of asking for someone else next time.

This is the first time I have written a negative review online…read more Short version: What I asked for was totally ignored, my hair was cut to less than half its original length when I stated I wanted to keep it long and I was overcharged even after hairdresser had admitted fault. Full version: I am writing this review because I have spent over a year growing my hair, and decided it needed to be evened out a little bit. I was in the area and went to this new 'barbershop.' The only thing I communicated that I wanted from my cut was the front to be evened out with the rest and that I still wanted it to be long. I wear glasses so I was unable to see what was being done. And 20 minutes later somehow 'evening out the front' equated to 'cut more than half the length of my hair off all around' I brought this to the hairdressers attention and from the response she knew she had messed up but was trying to act like I was somehow unclear, when never did I say anything about going short. If anything I emphasised how I wanted to keep the length. She didn't check I was liking it as we were going so that leads me to believe she knew exactly what she was going for which means she totally ignored me or is just not skilled enough to cut hair in more than one style. Not to mention the overcharging - on their site $30 for a cut and $15 for a beard trim. I was charged $50 today. Despicable. Just want to note: I have spent the last two weeks in hospital having surgery etc and thought it would be nice to treat myself to try and feel better and if anything coming to this place has done the total opposite of that. Gone are the days of barbershops meaning the mark of someone who is worthy of that title. That loved their job and giving their customer satisfaction. This is just a wannabe hipster copyshop that is taking up space in an already crowded field.

And the barbers who work here are far from being the old men we're used to seeing with their crisp white shirts and neat, slick hair. In fact, I'm pretty sure the barbers who work here are al young and look way too cool to be at conventional barbers anyway. Make no mistake - Sweet Georgia Brown is no where conventional. My partner decided to try this place out and was pleasantly surprised. The haircut was fast, efficient and he left feeling lighter and said, he actually might come back. He's picky so it's a good sign! And at $35 a pop, you can't really complain, can you!

After several failed attempts to catch this place when it was open Mainly public holidays, I went today but there was a really long wait. Though it's not just a pump out rush job, next please, there's a certain dedication to the craft and you definitely get value out of the time. Even if that's a crew cut, I got a rinse. A Rinse! That's never happened before and it means I don't look scraggy after the haircut. Well the point is its' a better qaulity than most. It's also a product of it's own success. I recently grew an awesome moustache for 'Movember' and when the end of the month rolled around,I was given the order to shave it off. This was my second trip to Baldilox and for $15 I was treated to the old fashioned straight blade shave and for another $15,my hair was trimmed back to it's number 1 setting. There's not many places that are that well priced,especially in that area and Josh is a great guy,really friendly service and meticulous work. He told me they are adding a rear area for ladies beauty work and I truly hope he does well there. Highly recommended.

I was passing as male at the point often enough that people would call me "sir" in public. I had specifically dressed to be as masculine as possible. Still, when I asked for a haircut (my hair was already very short) I was turned away by the woman at the front desk who informed me that only men were allowed. I asked how she knew I wasn't a man and she stated she "just knew." Protip: it was my voice that gave me away. There was one other customer in there at that time. I went up the street and got my hair cut at a great barber shop where they were kind and did an excellent job. It's cool that they cater to men but apparently that means only as judged by the lady at the front desk. This isn't about politics or whatever. This is about the fact that I was every bit as masculine as anyone in there. It's funny, too, because this place is about as hipster as can be. It's not like they are even catering to the uber masculine stereotype.

You will enjoy the experience…read more I've only been to The Barber Club once (they have sister store in Docklands, which I have also never been to), and only because my favorite hairdresser moved here. While it is a trek form my place in Essendon, I was impressed with the set up and service. The visit clocked up at $30. The shop if beautifully presented, with wooden fixtures taking centre stage, and lounging bench sofas to relax on while you wait your turn. As a nice surprise, the current newspaper was provided as well. The staff were chatty, and since I know my hairdresser, it was great to catch up. As the name suggests, it is a male-focused establishment, so ladies looking for a cut, colour and blow wave may be disappointed. Nice touches included having a warm towel placed on my neck prior to the lather being applied by brush in anticipation of the straight blade.
