Mr Giannotti & front desk come across as rude, unprofessional and lack any type of tack or compassion for their patients.. that is my Personal experience & Mr. Giannotti can have as many patients try to discredit & bad mouth my review, but doesn't change my experience and how I was treated. The only ignorance being shown is people who tolerate this kind of behavior.. best of luck to any future patients! I've been coming here for years. I've always been on time for my appts. I've never seen the dr on time, however. This didn't bother me as I "get it." I recently moved 80 miles away from this office, but have reason to come back to SV so I kept my appt. Yesterday after driving 80 miles for this appt, hwy 17 had an incident that was going to make me 15 mins late. I called 1 hour ahead of my appt and informed of this. The front desk person informed they would likely not be able to see me. I explained I was 10 miles away but blocked. Anyhow... I showed 15 mins late and was refused service. I thought my family established a relationship with this place over the years to where we could work it out. It appears it's just an act, but as I said above, I "get it." I wouldn't be as agitated if I'd been "taken back" on-time just once for all these years. IMO, the vibe of this office changed with the attrition of the front desk folks, but what do I know, I am the fool that drove 80 miles for customer loyalty. read more

I would like to say that, hands down, this is one of the best places to have your eyes checked. The office staff are very friendly and helpful. This is truly a small business trying to elevate professional services. There are a lot of corporations out there providing cheap services to get you by. My daughter and I have been going here for a few years now, and I couldn't be happier. Maybe I am a little biased since I have worked in the medical field and understand when something (emergency) happens. Yes, S**t does happen. Note: (Recommendation), if you run out of contacts, that is not their fault. Take some responsibility. I've read a lot of YELP reviews in my time, but if you write like you're ignorant, most of us can see through it. Those who wear contacts should mark your boxes at least two months before you run out(with a Post-it) and remind yourself to order more or schedule your appointment. Working in the health care industry, some do not know what's happening behind the scenes. It's difficult for me to read reviews that may be misleading or don't know what it takes to run a health care clinic. I Found Your New Optometrist! When we moved to Santa Cruz several friends recommended Dr. Giannotti and I now know why they were so enthusiastic and confident in making their recommendation. For one, getting started is easy - even new patients can schedule their first appointment online. I like that. All of the staff is really friendly and competent, and the spacious office has a good feel to it. My thorough eye exam included use of a lot of very sophisticated equipment, including one machine that takes beautiful pictures that Dr. Giannotti took time to explain to me. I was impressed with how friendly and focused Dr. Giannotti was during our appointment - he didn't seem at all rushed, and really took time to share a lot of information, and respond thoughtfully to any questions or concerns. They have a good selection of frames to choose from, and I found the person that assisted with the selection process friendly and helpful. I really like Dr. Giannotti because he's like the optometrist to the mafia. The way he says things it sounds like he's always about to add, "Badda bing!" This is not just some kind of ignorant slam on Italian Americans. GO check it out yourself if you don't believe me. He used to tell me, "You have tremendous focusing power!" I thought that was pretty cool. So, as an optometrist, he's all good. Unfortunately I had to part ways with the good doctor over a little incident with my expensive frames. I only wear glasses at night, night driving, presentations... when my eyes are tired... um, anyway I only had my new pair for three weeks and they came apart in my hands. One of the pins fell out and the lens popped right out. I brought everything back and they were going to try to charge me to repair it! I was like, "Nuh uh..." and eventually they backed down. But still, it made me mad enough that I didn't go back. read more

I was a little nervous to have my first eye exam in over 20 years, yes it was time! Everyone at Dr. Giannotti's office from my first phone call to my last appointment has been wonderful!! The technology they have access to is amazing, and something that could have been a little scary and overwhelming turned out to be a pretty awesome experience. I had a problem with one of my prescriptions and had to return, turns out it was an error at the lab, and Dr. Giannotti's staff just took the glasses back, put a rush to get them corrected! For me this was all a new experience and learned that I in fact needed glasses, which I am so happy to have and be able to see clearly, who knew? I would highly recommend his office for anyone needing vision care, they are all very professional, really make you feel comfortable, and the doctor is eager to answer any questions or concerns you may have so that you have a clear understanding of what is going on with the procedures and with your vision. read more

Nothing special... seems very competent, staff is nice enough. However, the other optometrist I have seen (Plaza Lane) seem to have more modern equipment and make good use of it. By contrast, Dr. Giannotti seems to be back in the '70's when it comes to his use of eye exam technology. I have very constricted pupils and he made me sit there for an hour, waiting for the dialation to occur so he could do the retina exam, while at Plaza lane, they use a camera and the Dr examines the photo. It doesn't matter if the pupils are dilated or not. You get a good diagnostic result. The selection of frames at Dr. Giannotti did seem more favorable than the other optometrist, so I may continue to use them for filling scripts, and getting my exams at Plaza Lane. read more

I had no idea what to expect when I went in for a first time appointment, but I was floored by just how high tech all the equipment and tests were, and how friendly, courteous and professional everyone in the office was. I had my initial eye exam with Dr. Giannotti earlier this week. I've had vision correction since I was a child and I have to share that this was the most professional and friendly experience I've had in terms of my vision care. From the initial greeting to the selection of frames and lenses every member of the team was friendly and helpful. All of the testing equipment seemed to be state of art. When it came to selecting frames I hadn't given it much thought. Lisa was able to patiently and effectively help me narrow down my options and Peggy helped me make my final decisions. Follow up has been great. Having recently changed insurance carriers, the team is diligently working to make sure I get the best value out of my coverage options. I'm happy. Stopped in to give this office a second try at my business. I left couple years ago because I didn't like how the office was managed. I stopped in after dropping my son at school today to see if I could look at glasses and get a appointment for eye exam. The lady behind the desk said I'm not allowed in and would need to call to book a appointment even to see "the glass". I explained my glasses burnt along with my entire house and I'm displaced staying in Mountain View. She did not seem to care. As I sit in my car right in front of the office, it's empty and they are just looking at me. It saddens me that this office has no compassion or people skills. I came here thinking let's give them another shot and keep my business local. Things must be better now. Sadly not the case. I can't imagine how much business is lost by poor office management. Dr. Giannotti is an excellent optometrist! My husband and I have been going to him for years. He's very personable, yet doesn't waste time with his exams. What I mean is that he's completely thorough and you don't feel rushed, yet he's respectful of people's time (unlike some doctors I know where you have to wait F O R E V E R....). Also, his staff is always friendly and helpful, especially when picking out frames. My husband has gotten SO many compliments on his new glasses that people routinely ask him where he got his frames. The staff (and the Dr. himself) really help you pick frames that suit your face and personal style, and I appreciate that. PS - I'm surprised by Pumpkin K's experience, as we've had nothing but stellar service from him and his staff. If I had a pair of glasses fall apart after only a couple of week's use, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to bring them back to his office, and would feel confident that they'd "make it right". read more

His office is efficently ran by several very kind and nice ladies who do everything from billing your insurance, helping you select frames, contacts, frame repairs and .... Makes last minute appointments for emergency needs (like when your child gets something in his eye at 4:30 in the afternoon and you are suppose to leave town the next morning on a trip). The best thing and the most important thing you should know is that Dr. Tony has THE most (state of the art) Vision Technology in his office! It is also very clean, stylish and they have a great selection of magazines, not that you have to wait - in a waiting room when you get there ... only when you are waiting for your eyes to dialate of course! I've been going to Gianotti for years and the last appointment I've had will be my last. He's always been kind of weird but when he was lecturing and belittling me when I said I was going to bring my prescription to Costco was the straw that broke the camels back. He then wrote my prescription down incorrectly so I couldn't see anything with my contacts in. I will never go here again. I have gone to Dr. Giannotti office for several years and his personality has always been a little different but at my last appointment he behaved extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. I took my 10 year old daughter into his office because she had started seeing spots in her vision very suddenly. When we arrived they first took digital images of the inside of her eyes.. As we sat down in the exam room he pulled the images up on the computer screen. When my daughter saw the photo she said "eww" I smiled at her and jokingly said that I was going to turn my head. Immediately after I said that Dr. Giannotti opened up the exam room door and INSISTED that I leave the room. I told him that I was not leaving and I would be staying with my 10 years old daughter. He looked at my daughter and asked her several times if she wanted me to leave. My very shy little girl felt so uncomfortable with his persistent question. As he continued to tell me to leave the room I sat in my chair and did not leave. He finally shut the door and continued on with his exam. As my daughter was telling him her symptoms that she had been having such as seeing rainbow squiggly lines, circles and seeing colors differently in each eye I would ask a question every now and then but I did not speak a lot. Dr. Giannotti became extremely rude with me and accused me of wanting to have something wrong with my daughter. He also accused me of putting all of this in her head. I am not sure where he got this opinion as I sat quietly for most of the appointment but I would ask questions that any normal parent would at certain points. As we left the office I tried to hold it together in front of my little girl but all I wanted to do was cry. I have never in my life been treated so rudely by a medical professional. He does not know me or my daughter or what we have experienced but yet within a 20 minute appointment he came to a lot of his own opinions and made sure to let me know exactly how he felt about me. I am still in shock that a medical professional would treat a patent this way. I was a concerned mother who was asking the right questions that any parent would ask in a situation like this. All I care about is my daughter and I was already feeling nervous over her symptoms and I just wanted to make sure that she was OK, that is and was my number one priority and that is why we were there in the first place. Who in the world does he think he is to tell me that I want something to be wrong with my little girl. He actually said "as much as you want something to be wrong, nothing is" Wow, you have got to be kidding me that the person who we were paying for answers would speak like this to a patient. I left there without having any of my questions answered and feeling zero trust that he actually took my daughters symptoms seriously. Each time I asked a question he would make a short and snappy comment but never answered my questions. I will never go back to this office. Dr. Giannotti is extremely unprofessional, rude and just mean. The way that I was treated was absolutely unacceptable!! *** *I never once spoke about about how upset I was over the way that I was treaded by Dr. Giannotti in front of my daughter, however, she did ask me after the appointment "Mommy, why would the doctor say that you want something to be wrong with me?" I am so upset that he said this in front of my little girl. I ended up having to explain to her that he is just a rude person and of course I would never want anything to ever be wrong with her. I don't write many reviews online, but I just had an experience that I wanted to share. I have been a patient of Dr. Giannotti's for a number of years, and have always thought he and his office staff are professional and very capable. Today, though, I suddenly began to have an issue with my vision that seemed as if it could be an emergency. Saturday evening, of course. As my husband and I began to get ready to head for the ER - dreading the nightmare of Saturday night in the hospital emergency room - I decided to give Dr. Giannotti's office a call on the outside chance that they might have some recorded information on how to deal with an eye issue after hours. Lo and behold, there was an option to leave a message and have the doctor on call return my call within a half hour. I did so, and about ten minutes later Dr. Giannotti called me - he had already accessed my records remotely, and he was able to diagnose my problem (thankfully not an emergency!) over the phone. I am still in disbelief that this service was available and how quickly Dr. Giannotti called me back. The best! read more

Let me start by saying this is the first time I have ever posted a review. Dr Giannotti was/is my families eye doctor. We have not been in awhile, and my husband and I really need new glasses, unfortunately like several other people we are struggling. We lost our eye care insurance when I lost my job in Scotts Valley after 28 years. I have thought about going to Coscto because of our financial situation but worried the care would not be up to Dr. G's standards. I am very careful with my glasses because I know I cannot afford new ones yet. Yesterday, I ran into a wall with my glasses on and totally screwed them up. I was so upset because I need them to work and cannot lose this job. I called the office, they said come over and they will look at them. They all were so nice, understood my situation, fixed the glasses and sent me on my way with no charge and a huge smile on my face. Dr. G is not only an awesome doctor he has a personality which makes him a very enjoyable person to be around. He is smart, funny, kind, and really cares. I have been a patient of Dr. Giannotti since grade school. Not once have I had a bad experience or felt like I wasn't valued as a patient. It has been over thirty years (yes I was one of his first patients) and I still drive from Capitola to see him, my nine year old daughter is a patient as well. I've been seeing him since he first got out of college and witnessed his growth, professionalism, and expertise over the years, and even though I moved "over the hill," I am not comfortable finding a doctor over here because Dr. Giannotti gained my trust and I'm afraid I may not find that anywhere else. Another thing is I think he must be a geek because he's always got some new fangled piece of equipment and I love that.
