I knew firsthand this could be an issue because my mother had to have her house ripped up from the laundry room through the breakfast room, kitchen, den, and to the bathroom on the opposite side of her house, built in the late 60's, due to her pipes completely rusting out and collapsing. After her experience cleaning concrete dust (it is amazing how it goes everywhere), eating out, replacing all the floor coverings, and spending well over $30,000, we chose an ounce of prevention. We are fortunate. I was shown that about 20 feet of our pipe was degraded but still repairable with descaling and epoxy lining. We requested that be done, and I said, "While you're here," can we get a tankless gas hot water heater, an irrigation valve rebuild, replacement filters for the whole house and RO systems, and a couple of other convenience items?
