Popped in for late lunch. It was super busy so couldn't get a table but they accommodated us to sit at the bar. Staff were very friendly. Found out later that reservations are generally used so highly suggest if you want a cute outside table to do so. Anyway. Aperol spritz was lovely! Ordered the bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and the other with prosciutto and mozzarella cheese.... Again, lovely. Ordered the pasta carbonara which was one of the best I've had while in Rome. Perfect al dente pasta with a rich sauce. Hubby had the Diablo pizza which was delicious and had a crispy crust. Plenty of meat toppings. Very happy indeed. I'd suggest a stop in! Oh and price wise..... including a litre of beer (no judging lol) everything came to €88 which for the area I think was fair. read more

Wonderful cozy bar. Great beer on draft served with olives and little hunks of cheese. Our server, Marco, was charming and attentive.

The food here was textbook. I'd eat here every week if I could. The heavenly, thick, emulsified sauces just clung to our pasta, and the fresh ingredients - tomatoes, pesto, and guanciale - set everything off. That said, we did need to add parm to one of our dishes (the tornarelli) to get the salt level right. My rigatoni carbonara was a special, which came with the waiter's recommendation. I cannot believe how much guanciale flavor it packed. To my taste, the actual lardons weren't needed to bring over the top. That's how good it was. I also loved the focaccia. It wasn't complimentary - we assumed it was when the offer was made by our retreating waiter - but boy, was it hot and fresh. read more

The place was pretty packed. After I walked in, a female looked for a table for me and my guest. She found a table and went back to tell me. When we were brought to the back, the employee said that a co-worker accidentally sat another set of patrons. My guest and I ended up having to wait for a different table. When we got to an outside table, the ambience was cute. I looked at the specials menu and wanted to try the black truffle carbonara I had seen pictures online of. What arrived looked like just a regular carbonara w/ bacon. The table next to me ordered the same. I didn't see any black truffle shavings at all. My receipt showed the charge for the black truffle carbonara though. I didn't know what happened. The only restaurant on our trip to Italy that we ate at more than once. All of the food was fresh and delicious. The Focaccia bread is a must-order. On our second trip, when we ordered dessert, I was trying to decide between the Apple Pie and the Chocolate Cake. When I was told the cake would take a few mins to prepare, I started to lean Apple Pie, but our server, George, talked me into the cake. He said "it was worth the wait". It was maybe the best dessert I've ever had. The ambience was top notch. On both trips to this restaurant, we ate outside. Situated in a less busy side street, there was little road traffic so the setting was exactly what you'd picture for an authentic Italian dinner in Italy. If you try this place you won't regret it. This lovely restaurant is very close to the Spanish Steps and looked inviting so we stepped in. We were full of jet lag and needed a nice meal. The wait staff is very friendly and we ordered Caprese plate and a Caesar salad. They were both delicious especially the Caesar salad. Of course the bread was outstanding too. We sat outside on the quaint sidewalk and enjoyed our fresh salads. I recommend this restaurant for a nice evening meal and outside there are tons of Gelato shops for dessert. read more

Normally all restaurants are to be avoided in the Tourist Triangle around the Spanish Steps. This is one of the exceptions... it is a truly beautiful bar that could be dropped into any Metropolitan city in the world and fit right in. It's almost like a high-end version of a sports bar with a simple menu, featuring all the classics... full bar and beer and wine with TVs always showing some type of sporting event. It's open late, including the kitchen which is open at least until midnight daily. The food is better than most "bar food" but it's the bar here that really is the draw. I also want to point out the service experienced at the bar was world class... everyone wanted to give five star customer service even in a casual environment. read more

After traveling through most of the middle to southern part of Italy, I wanted to continue my food journey! My wife and I looked for places close to the hotel and hopefully out of the tourist traps near the old Spanish Steps - this place didn't fulfill either of those! The bar was pretty crowded when we arrived but we were seated in the dining room pretty quickly. That's about where the whole thing turned south! The waiter seemed bothered by us being there. He served us wine that tasted like it was open for a couple of days, then got a disgusted look again when I asked for a new bottle! When he took the bad wine to the bartender, the bartender and some other person were smelling and tasting the wine as if they were trying to decide to give me a fresh glass!! "Just open the new bottle and give me good wine!!!" Is what I was thinking. Finally after what seemed like ten minutes, he brought a fresh glass. The food was mediocre- I had pasta w red meat sauce and my wife had ravioli w cheese and spinach filling. It definitely didn't taste as fresh, or flavorful as what we'd had in multiple cities in Italy. Food was a bit pricey but I guess location dictated the price. Didn't bother wi desert - and wouldn't recommend this place. read more

2.5 stars I give this place 5 stars as a wine bar and 1 star as a restaurant. I stopped by one day for a drink, and it was great. They had a good selection of wine, service was good, and there was a nice, lively vibe, while still classy. Since it was close to my hotel, I decided to come back a few days later for another drink and a snack. I had was was literally the worst caprese salad of my life, and that includes caprese salads in Texas, where I don't think there even are any Italian people. It was presented nicely, with wedges of tomato interspersed with wedges of mozzarella and a pile of arugula in the middle. Unfortunately, everything was incredibly bland and not seasoned at all. I mean AT ALL. They brought out salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar as an accompaniment, but if I wanted to make my own salad dressing, I would have stayed home and done that instead of going to a restaurant where people are supposed to make food for me to eat. I came across this lovely little bar on my first day in Rome and I enjoyed it's vibe so much that I came back here on my last day too. The first stop was just for a large glass of vino, while the second stop saw me try a plate of polenta, which was just deliciously scrummy. When I visit a new city, I, like most, prefer to visit places the locals do. I want to go somewhere that has fresh, real, authentic food. I want some place indicative of the lifestyle. I want to be immersed in a culture - enveloped by its sounds, tastes, sights, and smells. You might not necessarily expect that from this enoteca, given its location just off the Spanish steps and busy, famous shopping street of Via Condotti; however, you'll find yourself sharing the space with many Romans stopping in for a glass of wine or light bite. It's the perfect way to take that needed afternoon break, between shopping and sightseeing! The location is ideal for people watching. The side street of Via della Croce is bustling with people and motorini. It's exactly what you expect when you come to Rome. While the inside is beautiful with dark, wooden tables and a horseshoe-shaped bar that feels intimate and cozy, the outside is the place to really enjoy all the city has to offer. There are only a few tables outside, so if you pass by and are fortunate enough to see an empty one, I recommend sitting down as quickly as possible! The wait staff is friendly and prompt. The wine list is extensive. Not necessarily as inexpensive as other places, but you pay for the location and ambiance. Add to that a sampler plate of local meats, cheeses, and olives and you have the perfect afternoon snack. You'll be surprised how long you can sit here and just watch the world go by. In a area of tourist traps and really non Italian owned and operated restaurants you find an authentic and incredibly real to the heart of Rome Italian Enoteca and restaurant. The Cacio e Pepe is always incredible and the aged prosciutto and salad is extraordinary along with the other selections on the menu. I would recommend this place for a great wine, beer or specialty drink from the heat of Rome or for a great lunch or dinner. After one tourist trap after another, we decided to find a place where there seemed to be more locals than tourists. Although this place was close to the Spanish Steps, there was very little map-wielding, vacation garbed (you know, big hats, cargo pants and sandals) tourists to be seen. We went to all of those cheesy restaurants before, and the wifey and I were sick of the food that was meant for foreigners to feel comfortable. It doesn't scream of "Ciao! Viva Italia!" nor does is give off the impression that you shouldn't set foot into this place. Don't expect "awesome service" because, well, you're in Rome. You shouldn't expect immediate service like in Manhattan or SF because, when in Rome, you have to take it slow. Take it easy. You are on vacation, not some business itinerary with deadlines. Well, we were seated outside, and ordered lots of wine, heck, after all, it's a L'enoteca. The wine was awesome, but is there really any "bad" wine in Italy? Then, the pasta came out. O M G. I don't care what other people may say, that this pasta is just "ok" or that was "mediocre" at best, but when I ate their home-made pasta I said " what the hell was I eating all of my life?" It wasn't the pasta I was "used to" but in a very very great way. Heck, I am not set in my ways. But for those who are set in their ways, this may not be that great. Ok, so you mean to tell me, after shelling out what could possibly buy a couple of Ferrari's over a lifetime at these "Italian" restaurants in San Francisco was just a marketing ploy? Sorry to use this Shawshank Redemption reference so loosely, but after crawling through miles of crap, I came out clean on the other side. (or something to that effect). In a very touristy area my husband and I stumbled upon a gem. Very spacious outside seating that was very popular at lunch time but the inside is very charming as well. In contrast with the other reviews, I did not find the food here to be very good at all. I had Bagolini with duck sauce (al'anatra) and there was no duck to be found in the sauce as far as I could discern. My son had the gnocchi which did not appear to be too bad but he did not rave about it. We ordered the veal as the second plate, and it arrived sliced way too thin and way overdone - clearly delivered off a steam table. What a crime against veal. That being said, the atmosphere is terrific, although cars and scooters drive right by the end of the tables outside. The wait staff were quite friendly and did attempt to apologize for the food quality, including a gratis limoncello, but all in all, not a place I would seek out again for food. Atmosphere? A couple of streets north of the Spanish Steps, this is a great little place with plenty of seating and good food. Though there are a few tables outside for al fresco dining, we opted to sit inside due to the cooler weather. The waiter was pleasant and spoke English well enough to get our order correct, and we enjoyed a bottle of Gladium Rosso (15,00) with our ravioli and spaghetti pomodoro. Every tasted good and we were glad we stopped here for dinner our first night in Rome. Still figuring out service/tips in Rome. Some places include it, but if they don't, you can tip a couple of euro as you feel lead. Apparently, there is no standard 15%, 18% or 20% guidelines, so we gave him 3 euros based on our meal total. It is not the restaurant's fault that it's on a tourist trodden street and tourists eat there, right in the midst of locals. It is not a tourist trap. Food is solid good. Happened to eat there twice. Excellent steak with side of roasted potatoes, good tortellini with mushrooms, super fresh and moist filet of sea bass, very good tiramisu (way better than less than "best tiramisu in Rome" from Pompi). And selection of wine by glass... well, just order their Barolo. The place is intimate, romantic, but when we came late with a kid we were accommodated with no problem. It is clean. Ok, the service is a bit brisk, just don't be too fussy and demanding, and you will be treated just like any other local. I'd rather have good food served efficiently, then a mediocre food and drink not improved by obsequious smiles. read more

The "medium" cheese platter seemed slightly expensive, but came with nice portions of 7 cheeses, all of which were terrific, particularly the Parmigiano that they carve off of a wheel in front of you.
