I've eaten a lot of Mexican food, but I've never had food like this. Other reviewers say this is authentic Mexican food I can't speak to this having never visited Mexico. I ordered the chili relleno from the only English speaker behind the counter. She was really sweet and helpful. The rellenos were delivered with too sauces. One was more mild, the other was a flaming hot Smokey habañero. Both included complex flavors I'd never experienced. The poblano peppers were enormous and so fresh. They were accompanied by rice and beans and a freshly made wheat tortilla like nothing I've ever tasted. What an incredible meal! read more

Absolute gem! Some of the best, most authentic Mexican food I have ever eaten. What this restaurant is doing in a small town in the middle of Kansas I have no idea. If it were in a bigger, more urban city, it would be reservations only, lines out the door. Dining area is tiny, I found it to be very clean unlike some of the comments. We found this place after visiting the salt mines and it was really good. It is a small authentic Mexican restaurant with seating for about 10-12 people inside. We ordered 3 tacos and the enchilada combo and the tortillas were made as we sat watching. They tasted amazing! The two sauces we had were both spicy but tasty. read more

Wow! What a good meal !! The place is tiny. I walked in about 5:30pm. A lady was making fresh tortillas. She asked if I knew what I wanted right after I sat down. I said to "Just bring me something good!" She asked if I wanted mild or spicy. I replied spicy. In about ten minutes I had large burrito in front of me. It was pork and green chili with beans. I saw reviews previously to the day I decided to try this place. I was not prepared though for what I encountered. This tiny 5 booth and 2 table joint looked unwelcoming with so little space; but to be fair, I think it was the families three extra women, and 4 kids running around that was less than desirable. I have 35 years of street taco eating credibility and found those I had here to be not all that good. The dense and not totally cooked tortilla couldn't stand up to the greasy fillings.They all broke, soggy at the meat line and I ate each in turn with a fork. Fillings were okay. I had pork and green chili and picadillo. $2.00 each was too pricey for them. They were "pre-sauced" apparently; but I asked for a rojo sauce and it was hotter and flavorful. I wouldn't go back. Too small, too frantic and just not that good at $2.00 a pop. The meat was all well- prepared; but greasy. read more

Great little hole-in-the-wall place. It's not fancy, nor trendy, and it's not the Tex-Mex of the local Anchor Inn. What it is, however, is authentic Mexican "fast" food. Excellent fresh, homemade tortillas, street tacos overflowing with meat, real chile rellenos, even the rice and beans, usually just an afterthought or filler, are carefully executed and flavorful. Outside of Mexico this is the best mexican food I have had. Me and my kids ordered chicken enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, beef flauta, pork tacos & a cheese quesadilla over two separate days. The pork tacos were divine, the enchiladas were delicious and the flauta was awesome. All the tortillas and tacos were made fresh and each and every ingredient seemed fresh. The staff were also very helpful and super nice. Sure it looks seedy from the outside but is clean and homely inside for dining. As Doug stated, this restaurant caters to a predominately hispanic crowd, but the owners are pretty friendly to the few anglos who wander in. This place is pretty authentic, but most of the stuff I've had hasn't seemed very fresh. It's an alright place to get lunch or a quick dinner, and it's worth a try if you're interested in more authentic Mexican food than what's offered at El Potrillo or Anchor Inn. My biggest beef with the folks at Antojitos - they never have Al Pastor. I love it, it's on the menu, but every time I order it, I get the same response "No Al Pastor today." If you're not going to serve it, please take it off the menu. There are several authentic Mexican places in Wichita, however, the best, most authentic Mexican food I've had in Kansas so far comes from Dodge City. I knew that this place was legit when I walked in and all the regulars looked at me and laughed because I'm white. Perhaps even one of the few white people that has ever stepped over the threshold (for the exception of the many that I have now brought with me because this place is too good to NOT share.) Without a doubt, this is the most authentic Mexican cuisine in Hutchinson and maybe in a hundred mile radius! Their shredded beef and carne asada are out of sight, and if you're looking for something a little more bold and closer to Durango or Chiahuahua try the menudo, beef tongue, or chacheta (literally means cheek meat). If you live in Hutchinson and have never been here, do yourself a favor and go! And if you're just passing through town-try it. This is better a simple 4 star, IF you order the right thing. Example for us?: We have settled on their freshly made beef tostadas and soft corn chicken tacos (for me anyway). The tostadas have lots of pot roast style beef, without much visible fat, along with the usual vegs, unknown white cheese, and avocado mini slices. Best I've had, anywhere. Chicken tacos are similar to the ones in LA in that they are in soft corn tortillas with fried onions and cilantro. Problem? Two minor ones. They WILL make your tortillas freshly, right after you order (increases the wait time quite a bit, but is so good). And I mean you'll really wait for what is now considered almost fast food in the US. It comes will full-sugar sodas (yes, of course Fanta is there) in the can, or water bottles. And food-wise is the carne asada soft corn taco. It can be great or inedible since they are made, frying the beef all together with the fat and gristle (sometimes). It will taste so good, until you have to spit some out. The sauces offered are green (mild/moderate) and red (hot, as in flame-throwing hot, which I normally like but be careful).
