Great gym. A lot better than the 24 Hour gym on Addison that I belonged to for 10+ years. Here the equipment basically is all in working order; the place is basically tidy and the staff is friendly which is not to imply that the staff at 24H wasn't but, the other items mentioned were not too good. Anytime Fitness truly is a wonderful gym. Very friendly staff and excellent teachers and trainers. Top of the line, modern equipment Clean. Convenient, good parking, and SAFE location (unlike the Downtown Berkeley Y). Only one complaint/suggestion: the small yoga/pilates/zumba room has inadequate ventilation - no fresh air. The overhead fans have one speed: too fast. That's why often teachers don't use fans. So it's often stuffy. In classes, if a person is sick, the yoga room can be a germ-factory. Please open the entry door during classes... or else install air conditioning. Or hire a ventilation expert. read more

Location is central. Parking during normal business hours requires a walk of a couple of blocks or feed the parking meter. They limit aerobic machines to 30 minutes, although do not enforce it if no one waiting. There is only one shower room with no toilet in that room. The door to the shower room is VERY heavy you have to lean against it with your body weight to get it to open. I am a member from out of town, using this gym only when visiting family here. Of the 10-12 Anytime Fitness locations in northern CA that I have visited, this is my LEAST favorite. I never tried their classes. Apparently they have quite a few, so that might be a draw The time limits on aerobic machines and state of bathrooms/shower room are disappointing. Generally now I drive a bit farther to use a much nicer ATF in Pinole rather than this location. read more

This is a great place to get fit. Good classes, just enough equipment, and nothing more. I love that I can go anytime, whenever I find myself drifting toward mindless browsing on the internet at night, after the kids go to bed, I know there's something better to do. I love this gym. As a woman, I especially appreciate that it's well lit and has a lot of fresh air getting pumped in so no creepy smells. I LOVE the people who work here! They have never insulted me, never looked down at me even though I started out in a deconditioned state. They are sincerely friendly to me even though I am a transwoman! Earned my loyality. Great gym. Equipment is new. Staff has a great attitude. However, it only has 2 toilets so when busy you might have to wait 20 minutes to use the bathroom. Can get in with your key card anytime like the name says. I've worked out there after midnight numerous times and never had any problems with other customers. read more

Fantastic Gym - this review is primarily about my personal trainer Dario Mathias. An extremely knowledgeable and energetic trainer, Dario has a deep evidence-based understanding of fitness training and keeps up with all of the current literature on the subject. He is able to customize routines to fit individual goals and has an almost instinctive understanding of what your limits are and how to reach them! At this point, he is the reason why I still go to Anytime Fitness! Started going here thanks to a promotional deal. Really nice but small facility with a bunch of machines and a sweet yoga/streching/class studio. They have an interface on the wall where you can select any of their classes and a screen pops down and you can take the class. High tech! Really great place to pop in and catch a workout. For me personally however, the weight selection is not geared to how I prefer to excessive. I like a lot of free weights and there is only one free bar rack and the area with the free weights is pretty small. If there are more than three guys in there it feels a little crowded. But if you do more machine resistance training or like to run/use the elliptical, this place is for you! Never feels crowded in those parts of the gym and everyone is super friendly and always smiles at you. read more

This is a decent place. It's clean, free towels, shower, and fairly well run. I normally go in the evening and, of course, some evenings are busier than others. At the worst, you might have to work around somebody, but that's never been a big problem. My main complaint is that many of the people who go there seem to be more interested in what's going on on there Smartphones than is giving someone else a chance to use a machine. It's not unusual to see somebody camped out at a machine texting or changing their Pandora setting. But, that's not the gym's fault. read more

A really nice place for a workout. In my opinion the best thing about the place is the staff. They are very friendly and quite helpful. In particular I'd like to point out to Jamie. She is really a wonderful and very kind person. I do highly recommend chatting with her if you plan in joining. She would be able to provide a bit more information on the gym as well as various membership options. The other thing I like about the place is that generally it is quite clean and overall members of the staff do a good job in keeping it that way. I've been a member for a few months and I think it's pretty good. It's always clean and the staff is pretty friendly. I like that they have towel service for all members (there's no extra charge) and you can really come and go anytime. Parking on Solano can be tricky depending on the time of the day, but I haven't had too much trouble overall. read more

My past experiences with gyms were the ones in college and 24 Hour Fitness and now Anytime Fitness. This is by far the cleanest gym I've ever been to. It even smells good believe it or not. There's no locker room but there are two bathrooms and 1 shower room if you need to take a shower after your workout or change into your workout jumpsuit. The machines all seem pretty up to date and they work great. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When my partner and I went for the first time to check out the gym, we spoke to Joe and he told us the ins and outs of the place. He was very thorough and was knowledgeable when asking him questions. He didn't pressure us to join, but he did make it known that we would be back to join because "It's the best gym around". After checking out other gyms, he was right... it really is the best. So we signed up and now we are living a healthier life one day at a time. Did I mention it's right across the street from Zachary's?? And you can stop by at the little French bakery and get some treats before and after your workout?? It's like heaven. Anyway, talk to Joe, he's a really great manager who makes you feel welcomed like you're at home (not an abusive home... a caring one) and he will get you started on the right track too. Tip: When you sign up, wear your make-up cuz they're gonna take a picture of you! I didn't wear any that day, but I think my face can not be any more radiant than it already is. Anytime Fitness on Solano Ave is a great gym for those who do not enjoy a crowd. I can only count two times I have ever waited on a machine. Staff and customers are all friendly and respectful, some machines have TV's, and it is always kept clean. Not only can you go to this gym at ANYTIME, but you can literally plan times to go when no one will be there, if that is the kind of mood you are in. Not only that, but you can also take a fitness class ANYTIME. They have a fitness OnDemand feature, where you can go into the group exercise room, and select one of what must be hundreds of fitness videos to watch on their large projector screen. I am not a huge fan of a gym environment. This is the first gym I have ever signed up for that I still enjoy and continue to go to 6 months later. read more

I've been going here for two years now and this place is the Goldilocks of gyms. Not too big and messy, not too small and cramped, just right. Lots of cardio machines, just enough weight training gear, a full fitness classroom, a shower, clean bathrooms, free towels, and a super friendly environment. Great gym, and as someone else had mentioned, better than the 24hr gym on Addison. The equipment is in excellent shape, as no one likes to work out using old, grungy, half-working machines. I also like the fact they offer towels. As for personal trainers, I really like Lisa Franco. Since I have been seeing her I've lost 8 lbs (in 7 weeks), and she pays particular attention to my strained back issues (I had back surgery a year ago). She mixes exercises up, which keeps me more engaged, and did I mention she also has a pretty good sense of humor? Recently had the pleasure of trying out Anytime Fitness! I enjoy the fact that you feel comfortable working out there and everyone treats you so well. I felt at ease for the first time to actually join a gym because of the care and professional advice that was given to me. Amazing instructors and all around incredible people. They get you pumped up for your workout and help spot you, fix your form and give you new tips or ideas for your workout. Overall, the gym is very neat and clean, well maintained. You can tell they take pride in their gym and equipment. Parking can be an issue at times, but I would definitely recommend this gym to anybody and would recommend Lisa as a trainer. read more

I've been a member of a large, fancy gym and I've been to 24-Hour Fitness. This facility is small, but it has absolutely everything I wanted -- I used elliptical machines of the latest generation, free weights, blocks, rollers, stretch bands, pad, and more. They had a variety of weight machines, other aerobic options, and a few things I'm not used to at the other gyms I've frequented: friendly, mature staff, well-maintained equipment, and spotless restrooms and shower. I visited the gym today on the first day they reopened since COVID, and can tell you that you won't feel safer once you enter the space. The staff are some of the friendliest and attentive that you'll find, and they are taking all safety precautions including face coverings and plenty of cleaning supplies around the club. They monitored who was using what equipment and did thorough wipe downs of the equipment immediately after every use. You're also asked to personally wipe the machines before and after use yourself, so you can be sure that you're using something clean and has been sanitized at least 3 times. There are capacity limits (I believe 9 people at the moment allowed by the county) and a mandatory face covering policy, but I didn't see more than 2 other people in the facility at any time, and everyone was very respectful of the rules, which is what I've always appreciated about this gym. Some machines were roped off to ensure physical distancing, but that seemed like a safe precaution to take. The doors were open and fans turned on high the entire time, so the ventilation was not an issue, either. I've been going to this gym for a number of years and am glad they have reopened. I also visited the Orinda Anytime Fitness and had a similar positive experience. I can say that Anytime is doing this reopening the right way and taking their considerations of safety very seriously. i joined this gym in october since i work a few blocks down the street a live within running distance of it. i travel a fair amount so it was important to me that i had gym access across the country and especially in southern california. my second requirement was a facility with yoga classes, as well as variety in equipment. i've been a guest to some other cahin gyms and have seen them cater to a certain group- like having a large free weights area but no studio/floor space for other types of exercises. the gym has 24 hour access but i've never been there outside of the 8 am-10pm time frame and i've always found it to be clean, well l it, never too crowded and always stocked with fresh towels. it's a small neighborhood vibe kind of gym and offer a decent amount of classes for its size. i've only gone to yoga with maria and she's so great about giving personal attention in and out of class. she often stays a few minutes after to answer questions or offer pointers. i've never used props before in yoga so it's different than what i'm used to, but i still feel the benefits and enjoy it. the feature i take most advantage of at this place is the fitness on demand: the studio room has a projector and you can select from a ton of different fitness videos to work out to whenever. it ranges in time (from quick 10 min core work to 90 min kickboxing) and intensity levels. this is probably my favorite part about the club. i've been to one other AF and it was good enough as my out of town gym, but the berkeley location is much nicer. based on my experience, the berkeley staff is friendlier and more helpful and the equipment is top notch with more variety. the bathroom and shower facilities are also more spacious. obviously each club will be different, but the berkeley one sets the bar pretty high. read more

And i don't regret it! the whole staff is super friendly and will answer any questions and concerns you have. Mary, the instructor who teaches "BODY SCULPTING" is a breath of fresh air. She is one of the best instructor. She will guide you throughout her class and workouts. And kick your butt as well! You'll feel guilty missing her class. LOL Anytime fitness is a great gym. It is a convenient location and I don't mind the limited equipment, specially the only two elliptical machines they have. However, the lack of cleanliness is becoming a problem. The bathrooms are often a mess and I don't see anybody cleaning the equipment at all (except for a guy who tends the office now and then, he is the only one who cleans there). I asked a young woman who is a trainer and tends the office too and she said they don't have a cleaning service and don't do deep cleaning. They do the cleaning themselves and whenever they have time. Gyms can be a source for germs if they don't do responsible cleaning. This is a concern for me and I am thinking of canceling the membership. Too bad. read more

Update Lights are now on - took months for them to fix - but that allows you to notice how dirty the place is and how thoughtless co-users are: used towels on the floor, paper to wipe down machines on the floor, dust bunnies, clothes, water, etc left in the cubbies despite the do not leave signs. Ellipticals are starting to become squeecky from use - there are only two. Overhead music blares in a loop; not always the same music. All the aerobic machines, except the stair mill, have access to TV stations and the internet, so you can use your own earphones to listen to something else. Problem is the overhead music is so loud, you have to turn the volume up on whatever you are listening to to not hear it. Buy stock in hearing aid companies. Finally, they are not quick to respond to emails. Still if 24 hr access is important and you go at off peak times, this may be the right place. There are no franchises of this gym in SF or Oakland. read more

I was in town visiting family when I saw the this facility. I have been wanting to see what Anytime Fitness is all about, so I decided to find out. I was greeted by both Chrissy and Jami ,,, and taken by surprise at how friendly (yet professional) both of them were!!! It was almost like an extended family. Chrissy showed me around the facility ---- which was REALLY clean!!! She then allowed me to "try out" the gym's equipment. Great experience!!!! There is a variety of equipment to choose from and there was little (or no) wait time to try out the machines. If I had a question about any of the equipment, Chrissy was right there to explain how it worked and how I could benefit from using "that type" of equipment. Believe me.... if I lived in or near Berkeley, THIS IS THE FITNESS CENTER I would pay to attend. Great experience! Thank you Chrissy and Jami! This is the best gym I've ever been a member of - and I've joined quite a few - for several reasons: Their staff goes out of their way to help; their machines are quieter and smoother than I've ever experienced (the quality is as good as it gets); the place is clean; bathrooms are beautiful. The workout areas are well thought out and pleasant to be in. And something amazing: they give you this flat circular "key" that goes onto your key ring (or into your sports bra) and gets you in ANY TIME YOU WANT! midnight, holidays, whenever, for your workout. I'm really happy with Anytime Fitness. They are local and convenient, parking is good, I can walk from home when I have time. They are never over crowded, so I can get on the machines and equipment when I need them. The trainers are excellent. I work with Dario Matthias and he is great. Very friendly and very knowledgeable. He is creative when it comes to changing things up to accommodate special needs and whining and we laugh a lot. I feel very inspired and very tired when the session is over. I have worked with some of the other trainers when Dario is not available and they all have been good as well. All in all, a small friendly gym. Highly recommended! read more

Anytime fitness is a ripoff. Their interest is profit, not health. My son signed up with the gymn over the summer. He is away at college. We have been unable to cancel his membership despite numerous attempts in person. I'm reporting anytime to the Better Business Bureau. There are a lot of other legitimate places to exercise. Workout somewhere else. read more
