The classes are fun, diverse and challenging. You can focus on strength, stretch, balance, mobility or some mix of all of those depending on your needs and your interests. There's a great atmosphere in the classes and it isn't a struggle to get myself to go to classes at all. In fact i hate missing them and can notice the difference in my body if it's been a few days since I've been. I've only been going a couple of months but it's already obvious that Andy knows his stuff and is really keen to make sure that the programme is tailored to each persons needs. If you've done the monotonous soulless gyms and are ready to try something different and excited then I'd highly recommend AM Fitness.

Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

I need to update this review with major news!…read more After a hard training, I usually go as far as the shower and don't even take the time to dry my hair before I go home. This time I felt like pushing my boundaries, wearing my bikini in public, and going to the spa. 1* For the spa: It's called spa but it's basically a huge swimming pool, a sauna, a steam room, a jaccuzzi, and tropical showers - meaning different water temperature. The place is warm - not too warm ! - and clean. I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to hygiene and this place has my stamp of approval. 1* For the sauna: Dry heat as you would expect. The interior is made of wood and the heat place is made of stones. There are 3 different levels and - of course - as the heat goes up the highest seats are warmer. It's not too hot so you can have a good sweat. Don't stay too long though and do not wear jewelry - you will get burnt. 1* For the showers: I love to alternate sauna / medium heat shower to cold / steam room. Some people like to take a cold shower right away but I don't appreciate the extreme change in temperature. I go for medium heat shower and possibly cold after that, it has to be step by step. 1* For the steam room: What a great sensation to be in a steam room! The heat and humidity is no overwhelming and that's a plus. You can't stay very long - as per usual - but you can still handle a good moment. Also there is an ambiance music played in the room to help fully relax. This place is a treat ! You eliminate the bad toxines in your body, you work on your breathing system, and you relax all at once. I haven't tried the swimming poor nor the jaccuzzi but that should happen very soon. 1* For the hair dryer: OMG Those hair dryers are so amazing it only take a few minutes to get my hair completely dry. And my hair is long to my waist. And not easily cooperative when it comes to drying! I need to take a picture of how everything is set up, but in short you can find 4/5 hair dryers and 1 hair straightener along a long mirror. You have space to put your brush or other hair/make-up products and get ready. Even when it's busy girls always make space for one another. Very friendly changing room ! 1* For the free trial: I asked for a few trial tickets for my boyfriend. They couldn't give any because this gets sent from the headquarter. At first I thought it was a bummer but then I remembered that a couple of months ago I received free trial tickets by post and a 5 day pass as well ! Should I remove a star ? It's true there should be more flexibility on that aspect but on the other hand they send a lot of incentives by post. I leave this star for now :D 1* For the beauty centre: Today I noticed a new poster in the entrance promoting a new beauty centre. Opening soon facilities for waxing, semi-permanent make-up, manicure, and pedicure. There was something else but I don't remember... Anyway, depending on the price I might want to take a look and report to my fellow yelpers :) That's all for now. Well its the place I freqeunty probably the most and I'm a big fan of Carlisle. Its a great gym, always busy, with big changing rooms which are kept clean, with staff always available and ready to help. With the pool in the middle (no under 16's allowed) to divide the main hall up a huge range of Carido machines; treadmills,bikes, elliptical and machines which I use but don't know the name of. Also plenty of weights gear too. Theres also a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi in the pool area. As well as this theres classes, personal, trainers, a small café area, that doesn't have a café but has coffee machines and snacks. And theres a barbers, beauty salon,spa and hairdressers.As as result its very busy, but off peak its normally fine and the place is so well stocked you'll always get a machine. At the moment they're offering membership at €295 for 18 months, take that Westwood.

However, there are few issues. First I'll say what's GOOD about Carlisle. It's massive and it has more cardio and weight machines than any other gym I've ever visited. It offers a full range of fitness and well-being services: a swimming pool, sauna and steam room, yoga and spinning classes, a supplement store, sandwich bar and lounge, spa treatments and hair styling for both men and women. Its prices are the most affordable on the market. Annual membership for one person is about €235, waaay below what other less equipped clubs are offering. Which basically explains my first problem: Carlisle is full of scangers.....hard-faced, foul-mouthed, macho-swaggering, tattooed, Fred Perry-wearing SCANGERS. You might think I'm a bit of a snob, but until you've witnessed a knife fight in a changing room (I kid you not) or listened to their bovine banter reverberating through the showers, you might want to hold that criticism. The knife incident aside, mostly it's just annoying and lowers the tone somewhat, but that's what happens when prices are this low. Haha...I AM a snob :P. The other point I wanted to raise is about the staff, specifically the male staff, discounting one or two. Their attitude can be apathetic, cold and abrasive; they have a smarmy cliquishness about them, much like high school jocks and aren't very approachable. I also don't appreciate their obvious resentment of people who train late. I often go at 9pm and leave at 10pm closing, simply to avoid the rush hour. They stomp around the place banging weights down on racks as if to say "get the hell out already!" which I don't appreciate. However, these are only a specific few. The last thing is a more recent issue. The new spinning classes are held in the middle of the gym floor and are obnoxiously loud. Saturday morning training is almost unbearable now thanks to the overwhelming cacophony of blaring dance music and Nazi-like yelling. Sometimes it's so loud I can't even hear my iPod. I've just learned to go at different times to try and avoid it, but it's still really annoying and inconsiderate. Those gripes aside, you won't find facilities like this for such good value! Was working out minding my own business and a bodybuilder nearby decided to lower his shorts to show a particular instructor the size of his thighs, to which the instructor decides to poke fun at me and joke out loud (in the middle of a room full of people) "now you better close your eyes, don't be looking!". Cue the other people in the room (women included, who weren't advised to look away) staring at me, laughing, and me sitting there mortified as 3 muscular macho men have a laugh at the gay guy in the gyms expense. It made me so self conscious and uncomfortable being made out to be a pervert that I left the gym and haven't returned. To make matters worse this staff member has continuously dropped my appointments over the last year (despite asking me to book with him as I've an injured shoulder) and other staff members have made smart comments about me asking for his help implying I fancy him. Needless to say I'm disgusted with their lack of professionalism.

It is a sin that this place was not listed and evaded review from Señor Ding Dong and myself.. We both signed up less than fortnight ago now and have attended religiously for the last 16days. Pushing ourselves beyond the capabilities of these weak meaty bodies.. Even fueled with a chemical soup of adjusting chemicals; cretin, cocaine, steroids, valium, cannabis, shark testosterone and a little splash of apple cider vinegar to bring it all together... we still are still always grounded by our human flesh, it seems it will never be dense enough to seduce a woman.... However.... On a tuesday morning.... at 6am.... in the 3rd lane of the pool( her fave..),.. an elderly woman comes out to do her Pilates.. Now i have long since been sterilized for reasons of over excitedness as a young buck fresh off the farm. But Hoo -Wee! do i get some movement from an aul biddy doin her stretches! Nothing gets me more wet then jumping in that pool and diving right at her.. She's cripple from the waist down so as long as i slip in and out before the minder notices... one in the bum, no harm done... occasionally one in the ear but thats kinda queer... Dreams are made at this gym is what I'm trying to say,... none of that really happened... (sorry yelp guys, please stop deleting my reviews..)..
