This is a common sight at the gym: people leave their weights all over the gym floor instead of putting them back on the racks.
Thomas S.

I've been working out at this gym for three years, and when I first started it was the best gym in Dublin city centre. The membership price for this gym is very good: you do get value for money here. But the number one problem with this gym, and the reason I'm giving it a critical review, is that the members have very poor etiquette and bad gym habits. No one puts their weights back on the rack after finishing their work outs, and the management have done nothing to correct this bad habit. This means that it often takes forever to find the weights you need. Granted, there is a real focus on free-weights at this gym that is much appreciated. But they become useless if you can't actually locate them. Moreover, with free-weights littered all over the floor, often in random spots, the gym becomes messy and *dangerous*. Since you have to carry your weights sometimes across the gym in order to use them (because someone has left them in the wrong spot rather than on the racks), you also have to negotiate an obstacle course of dumbbells, barbells, and other weights just sitting on the floor. It's literally hazardous. The price is great, but the gym is very basic: not a lot of classes offered, the locker room is cramped and small, no soap in the shower areas. Some of the equipment is beginning to show wear and tear and needs up-keep that doesn't seem to be happening. They desperately need to purchase another squat rack (the ones there are always in use).

Clean, friendly staff and excellent gym rates for any budget.

Very clean, huge & great selection of classes, very helpful & very friendly staff from all…read moredepartments within, sometimes I notice staff are afraid to make on the spot decisions probably for good reason but can be frustrating to members or guests and I find the members very friendly and some very funny. Since they introduced the Keiser Spin bike in 2015 I have increased my Power/Watts/FTP by over 33% in less than a year (spin class watts was 200/220 Watts now 330/353 Watts per 45 min spin class) with a max Keiser display calorie burn of 800 - 880+ per 45 min spin class, I have learned how to recover in a very high tempo while on the road by using the spin classes. Every time I think I have peaked and it's impossible to get any more power I get a new number :) and because it's the gym it's not weather permitting and more consistent in the winter months which gives a better output for the new year as I can keep an eye on my levels in the spin classes. I Unknown to the instructors use different instructors for different aspects of my training for cycling, Katarina - technique(which gets extra watts for the same effort) and heart/cadence/power zones, Dave, Ryan and Mauraid - Power with huge watts for long periods(The Hurt House Class, help me to hurt others on the road), Alan - Cadence with Power Training, this proves it was within me to improve, I just needed someone to kick my ass pushing me to my limits while training to get me there, and while on the road cycling, I amaze myself with my well earned gains and I do say to myself while raising my bidon "CHEERS one escape", my only complaint is the spin room could be a bit colder and maybe a little more technical as I know the training staff have the latest know how to be, their list of qualifications go on and on" IMPRESSIVE". The gym equipment WOW, plenty & the variety is huge, you won't be waiting, EVER. Swimming pool, Sauna, Steam Room(probably the best in Dublin) and Jacuzzi are all excellent. A big plus is the management are very approachable & do listen, which is an art lost in modern times with businesses and their customers. I have been in this gym for many years so I know that the people who own it, reinvest and give me the impression they adapt to its customers as I do get the impression the P.T. make the decisions on the classes, so it's a case of the people who are in the know are making the decisions, I make this comment strictly from observation and experience. I know I am NOT a member of a one hit wonder. As far as the cost goes you have to ask yourself the question, do you want a hostel or the shelbourne hotel, at what level of fitness do you want to get, are you happy with being fit or do you want to be super fit, one escape gets 5* from me. Yes it's more expensive than the rest but when I look at my gains, "WELL WORTH IT" and an investment in my future health, my resting HR is now 45-50 at 43, it used to be in the 70's in the days of bad diet, smoking 30-60 a day and no exercise with XXL clothing in my early 30's and the belief on bad health, sure it only happens to everyone else. It's future is an ICON for Dublin, and a standard that other health clubs/gyms can only strive to try and achieve. If anyone knows of a better gym in Dublin I would like to know where it is because I have been around jumping in and out of them in Dublin city and I can't find one. Sure they get things wrong and make mistakes, the gym and staff aren't perfect but they are getting by far more things right than wrong.

Those who pay the bills? Each time I've come in here, I've had one gripe or another. Either they are too busy chatting amongst themselves to say hello or goodbye, or they're just not super arsed in being friendly. I get that they're busy, but this is not a cheap gym by any stretch of the imagination so it would be nice to be received with a bit more courtesy. I arrived today at 1.42pm to register for spinning class at 2pm. They say that registration opens 15 mins before each class, so despite being there and ready to go, the receptionist turned to another spinner and I telling us we'd have to wait to register. Now this isn't some high tech scenario on a computer that literally doesn't open til the set time - it's jotting your name down on a piece of paper. I would like to say in full disclosure that the receptionist was tending to someone else at the time, but if she had enough time to turn to us and tell us we'd have to wait til quarter to for signing our name, surely she'd have had enough time to pass us the registration paper. Thankfully which is what another staff member did, once he heard the comment from his colleague. It took him about 0.2 seconds to pass us the sheet. A bit of common sense wouldn't go astray in situations like this. I'm still a major fan of this gym and most of the staff so far have been great, but it would be great if there was a bit less of a "Computer Says Noooooo" attitude in here (What an episode that was!)

The reason I…read moreconfused a gym for an afternoon hide-out was the man with the flyer outside who dragged me inside with the promise of a free espresso. And an espresso I got plus a grand tour of the premises. To find the gym you need to walk inside the South Richmond Street entrance, go through the room with the coffee machine until you find a door that takes you to a dark alley where you'll find another door, the one that opens the actual gym . Yeah I know, it's pretty strange. But just wait until you finally get inside! Raw is a macho place filled with macho men, stretching their sweaty bodies and flexing their muscles. I can imagine that fitness competitors have a membership here for life. Watching the heavy-built weight-lifters oozing testosterone in every corner, I couldn't help thinking about the Village People video as I felt myself shrink to the floor. For a girl, this wouldn't bee my gym of choice, at least not until I get much more fit. Maybe I should try their Boot Camp class, if the trainers are anything like those who pay for the work-out, I'll loose the Christmas kilos in no-time (I'll report back in a month, if I survive). So, if you wanna be a macho, macho man, make sure to get a membership. Hey! Hey! Hey! I

Upon first glance the weights section is admittedly intimidating, but for the most part people keep to themselves and you never have to wait for equipment or machines. Plus, it's seriously affordable. I think I paid €299 for 6 months. If you're like me and fear a serious body building setup, I'd say avoid the majority of the ground floor. Around the perimeter is like 15 cardio machines that get the job done, and they have a nice selection of kettle bells along the mirrors though. There is a studio upstairs that has a great selection of classes (though I'll admit I still haven't been to one) and there's also a spin studio if you're into that sort of thing. You're free to use either space if there's not a class on, and it's a personal fave since it has more lady-friendly barbells, mats and space to stretch. All in all, I really like Raw and would definitely recommend.

I really like this gym. Apart from the things I really hate about this gym…read more It's cheap, you don't need yearly contracts or anything like that. Pay as you go, stop paying when you don't want to go anymore. Simple. Also on the plus side, for someone that doesn't use any fancy machinery for his workout, this is awesome. There's a pretty big free weight area, and a very very good number of power racks! If you go to the gym to squat, bench, deadlift and that sort of stuff, Flye Fit has got you covered! Although I tend to keep away from them a bit, there's also a very good number of cardio machines, treadmills, bicycles, those things where you pretend you're walking up stairs, etc. You're a bit out of luck if you want a spa, smiths machine, a pool, back massages, or anything like that. There's equipment there, go and use it. That's pretty much it. What I really really hate about this place? It's a bloody mess most of the times. Spotting someone from the gym staff actually putting things back in their place is a rare sight indeed, and weights, dumbbells, kettle-bells, etc, are left all over the freaking place (it would help if people had better gym-etiquette, but they don't). My second gripe... some of the Personal Trainers don't really set much of an example, on the contrary, they tend to do one of the most annoying things you can do in a crowded gym... being a hoarder. "Oh these 25 sets of dumbbells, and these four 5kg plates? Yeah, we'll be using all of that, sorry!". Gah that makes me so mad! Soooo mad! I need to go lift some heavy things right now, to appease this rage! Gah! So yeah, a decent gym if you want to work out and you don't need anything fancy, or any hand-holding at all. Also helps if you're not intimidated by the sound of weights being dropped much louder than necessary (so ALPHA! GRAW!). Get a couple more staff in this place to keep it a bit less chaotic, and I'd definitely bump up the rating to 4 stars. Don't skip leg day!

This is the most recent Flye Fit Gym in Dublin. The…read morebuilding is a converted old warehouse which resulted in an ample open space. They've been adding more and more equipment since it opened, and now there are plenty of weights to choose from without having to wait. They offer some classes like Yoga (not real yoga, but it's good enough for a gym class), Ryde, Boxing or X Fit, these are all included in your membership, you just need to book online. The Ryde class is pretty good, the bikes have an articulated frame that allows you to move and turn almost like in a real bike. Why isn't this a five star review? There are three things that make the whole experience fall away from perfection: 1. The (revolving) doors. Don't be too fat and/or don't bring a very big bag because you may end up having a really hard time trying to go through these. 2. The shower's water temperature. You just press a button and wait for the water to come out, which is really nice and simple in theory, but, as we all know, reality sucks and you get cold water in the start and really hot scalding water by the end. 3. Disorder in the weights area. The gym isn't the only one to blame here, ofc, though it could enforce a bit better the idea of leaving everything in its right place once you're finished. If you have an OCD it will be a nightmare. Else it can be a pain to try and track down that specific weight or bench you need for your workout. Anyway, I strongly recommend this gym. The price is great value and there is no contract - you can stop paying and going anytime you want, and you can do it online with zero fuss. You can manage everything online, for that matter, since changing your access code to the gym (the card you choose to get through the door) to booking classes. I believe it can be a good gym for a beginner too - if you don't have many specific and special needs. The afternoons are always more crowded - but not too much - as well as Saturday/Sunday mornings.

There are a few types of memberships depending on your usage, like off peak, family plan, and 3 monthly etc. at varying prices. There is a Club Vitae app as well that you can use to book any of the classes. They have a nice 22 meter pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. The pool usually only has a few people whenever I'm there, but it's very crowded on weekends when there's kids swimming lessons in the mornings. The weights and cardio room have plenty of treadmills, but only a few of the other machines like bikes and cross trainers. The machines seem kind of old, but they still function fine. The area is smaller than massive gyms like Fly Fit, but they have a big enough weights area but only one of each type of weights machine. The changing rooms are kept very clean. I don't really like the showers as you can't control the temperature and it's quite lukewarm. Also it stops every minute or so and you have to wait a few seconds before you can turn it on again which I found weird. However, the kids were here for the Aquazone. I was pleasantly surprised by the Aquazone, it wouldn't compare to water parks on the continent, but my Irish standards it does pretty well. The changing rooms and pool areas are all very clean. The changing area is communal with lots of cubicals, so makes it easier when you have kids with you. The main attractions for younger kids are a wave pool, lazy river and a pirate ship with a few small slides. Then for the slightly bigger and braver kids there are three flumes and a "flow rider" (a large stream of water you can surf or bodyboard on, great fun). The three flumes are very good, each one it quite different, so nice bit of variety. My niece loved the flumes, running up to me after going on the Dark Hole flume "that was TERRIFYING........... I'm going again!", I thought the entrance fee was about right; Adult €14, child €12 (3 & under free) and family €46 (2 adult & 2 child). The main pool comes with a moveable floor so they can shorten the pool to a 25-meter pool with a two separate pools, one for diving. The complex also includes a kids' pool (Aquazone Waterpark) with slides and an on-site gym and cafe. There is room for about 2,500 spectators as well in an impressive viewing gallery. If I was to describe the quality of the pool when extended to the full 50-meters and when it's not too busy? Abso-feckin-unbelievable (that's a word... right?!). If you've never swum in a 50-meter pool you should do it immediately! I unfortunately live a fair bit away so only get to the pool once every few months and for a pool-based triathlon each year (Fingal Sprint, held in May), but it's well worth the trip and I've never been disappointed! I would STRONGLY recommend however to phone the centre before you go, because a LOT of clubs and competitions use this pool and also it's not always extended to the full 50-meters; try and go at off-peak times with the full distance available, and you're bound to come out smiling!
