Vasa facility has really great equipment, very clean and so energetic. Also, I definitely checked out studio red for coach Muriel. I have to say the sister is definitely top-tier with her high intensity workout. I actually felt the sweat throughout and all over my body (Word To Nelly) lol. Jennifer is a doll with yoga and deep stretch. It's been a long time since I worked out but joining this new gym, seeing both old and new friends definitely makes my motivation more smoother than possible. Also, if you are in the Romeoville area check out that facility as well. The general manager, Eric and his crew are definitely lovely people also and their facility is nice. I admit, Vasa does not play to cancellations unless life suddenly shifts. It actually helps to keep you stay consistent. Vasa brings a magnetic vibe that makes you feel welcome, motivated and very well supported I have to say that I'm happy that I joined the gym. It feels great to get back in tune with my health and body and most importantly, I definitely see my confidence again.

The focus is always on functional exercise allowing you to remain active throughout your lifetime. The coaches allow and encourage you to challenge yourself but do it without injury. They offer suggestions on how to modify an exercise so that you are successful. There are also a number of members who are true athletes and have been quite successful in state, National and world competitions. Besides all that, the members are a fun-loving group and always are welcoming and encouraging to new members. It is NOT your typical big box gym. Pricing varies and can include discounts. Free child care is also available during classes. All age groups are welcome. At various times of the year they have even have separate classes for children and teens based on school schedules. With virtually zero prior experience with Crossfit I went through the one on one fundamental sessions with Sarah. Sarah was incredibly patient as I messed up every technique I was taught in ways many would not think were possible... In short I was a hot mess. Despite my apparent lack of conditioning and coordination Sarah remained the perfect cheerleader. The fundamental one on one sessions proved invaluable. Other Crossfit gyms I made enquiries with were happy to let me join their classes without completing the one on one sessions. With the benefit of hindsight I was glad I didn't elect that option as it would make for a very dumb decision! The early morning classes range from hard to really really hard. There is no easy days. The classes are small enough that the coaches are always able to keep you on track. If you can't do a part of the workout the coaches are quick to show you a modification. What I enjoy most is the sense of satisfaction you get from doing some especially difficult each morning. There is a strong community vibe here also. Everyone has been very welcoming.

The comradery here is what makes me look forward to going to the gym every week. I absolutely love the classes led by Lisa and Joanna. Both instructors have been welcoming, and encouraging. Regardless of the class size, Lisa and Joanna have always been kind and caring enough to correct our form if they ever notice us lifting wrong/working out in a way that might make us prone to injuries. I never thought I'd be someone who would workout consistently, but after coming here I haven't missed a week.

I was a member of this gym for about 6 months…read more The good- I did like the workouts. I'm not a runner and I liked that it motivated me to run. It's not like just run for 10 minutes..they have various programs and you can power walk or jog/run. The strength was on a screen and you would be at a small area and do your workouts with people very close to you. The bad- While some people think this is great, It came off to me as fake. They will remember your name but nothing else about you. It's almost like they have your picture in a back room and make the staff memorize it. That is the vibe I got. Every coach and front desk staff knew my name but couldn't remember that I'm a single mom on a very tight schedule and could only make it to the classes in the middle of the day. Which brings me to the reason I actually quit... I could only come on my lunch break and it was a struggle with traffic to get there on time. I had originally signed up as there was a 4pm class on Fridays and when my son started preschool in September I would be able to go to a class after work and then be able to pick him up by 5:30. So after racing out my door on my lunch break and racing home I was looking forward to this time slot. Once September rolled around and I could benefit from this time slot it was gone AND around that same time I showed up 6 minutes late to a class that was not full but told I couldn't go in because I was late BUT they could get me into a later class. My response was a sigh and I can't make it to a 5:30 class because I have to go pickup my 3 year old son from daycare. I had been going to the same class time for 5 months. A friend of mine who coaches at another OTF told me due to their insurance policy they can't let in anyone five minutes late or over. Icing on the cake the next week I was there and they let an extra person into the strength class so they worked in a corner when there already isn't much room. Normally, I wouldn't care but I was still bitter because apparently rules only matter to certain people. Also when I was there the a/c was out for about a week in summer - not their fault but it was pretty uncomfortable and I swear they didn't dust the fan above the corner treadmill ever. I would avoid that treadmill like the plague because I felt like dust was falling all over me. AND be weary of all the super positive reviews, one month I was there you got an extra entry in some contest if you wrote a review and showed them. Back to the good- the coaches were pleasant. I liked some personality's better than others but there was no individuality to the classes so no matter who taught it the class would be the same. I did REALLY like the heart rate monitors and felt them very motivating. Overall, if you are looking for a place to be able to get in and out and not think about your own programming and the schedule works for you, I'd recommend.
