On January 2014 I made a resolution. To book my first solo trip somewhere in Europe. It came down to either France or Belgium. Having rested on it for a few days, my heart finally decided to go to Brussels. So off to Belgium I go!
On May 26th I was browsing online trying to figure out where to stay. I decided to create a list of 'must haves' in order to find me that perfect accommodation:
1) I was on a strict budget
2) Location, location, location. Most of the places I had plan to visit had to be within walking distance
3) Have a great time!
Lo and behold I managed to find the perfect accommodation... CITADINES (was on a special deal that included transportation) *booked*
As I arrived at Brussels station I immediately took a taxi to the hotel (€24) - I could've saved myself €20 by taking a train as it was only few stops away, but I was too chicken poop - hey, it was my first time going solo! The cabbie was lovely, he was having a conversation with me in French knowing I can't speak a word of it but we got on well. He pointed out the places to check out, and I was delighted to discover that places are only a short walking distance from where I was staying.. score!
We finally arrived at the aparthotel in one piece, the cabbie got out and handed me my luggage. I tipped him and he bidded me farewell. As he drove off I turned to look up at the hotel and realised I had a big smile plastered on my face.. my inner self whispered *location location ohhh perfect location*
As soon as I stepped in I was immediately greeted by a lovely gentleman who was at the reception desk. The check-in was pretty straight forward and I was then taken to my room all within 10 minutes. As I entered my room, I was incredibly pleased to see that my room had a great view large fountain opposite the hotel. I stayed during the high peak of the summer and the Brazillian world cup. The square was packed full of people, market stalls, bar stalls and a dancing area. As I turned away from the window to observe the room, I was pleased to see that my room was spacious and mordern. Clean not cluttered. On one side of the room is a modern kitchen unit with a cooking stove and utensils. On the other is a built in cupboard that had a safe, an iron board and a closet. The bathroom itself was also clean and decent. Flat screen t.v built into the wall and FREE WIFI! Only downfall is that there is no air conditioning and there was noise coming from outside.. though I didn't mind the salsa music. The lounge area by reception was spacious and they have a complementary self service coffee machine.
All in all it was the perfect accommodation and would definitely stay there again! read more
