We arrived in Pelican, Alaska after a 45 minute seaplane ride from Juneau. That was a first for each of us. We were met at the dock by Shannon's sister Kelzie, who had a wagon for our bags. The meals, from first to last, were top notch home cooking - just like grandma used to make. The chef is Lauren, another sister and an awesome cook. Breakfast is early and Jake, Shannon's fiancee, was our Captain for the first trip. Shannon was our Captain for our second and third trips out to the Big Water. We limited out each day on halibut and caught 40 beautiful Silver Salmon. Alaska, being Alaska, had some weather that kept our seaplane from making the trip from Juneau. No problem, Shannon put us up, fed us and got us on a ferry back to Juneau. This was a trip of a lifetime for the four of us. I even caught a 56 inch halibut. I absolutely recommend Pelican Inn Charters to anyone looking for a fishing experience with great guides and a family atmosphere.

As soon as we dropped anchor at a location Chris scoped out for us, I caught a HUUUGE halibut and the excursion only got better from there. For the remainder of the trip, every passenger continue to hook fish one after another and that continued until everyone was exhausted. I know catching fish is not guaranteed on any trip, but based on my own personal experience, combined with my research of other customers reviews; I would venture to guess your chances of catching a fish with him at the helm is as close to 100% as humanly possible. I can not give a higher recommendation for Chris at Tok River, and highly suggest you check them out as well.

My grandson and I just returned from a week-long trip hosted by Taylor Charters. Greg has established a masterful collection of 8 different boats and 5 first-class accommodations in the charming town of Gustavus (it is a hard A, not ahhhhh). Greg owns these boats and spares no expense to ensure that they have reliable propulsion (ours was a North River aluminum boat that had nearly new Dual 250 Yamahas.....) and Captains that had years of experience fishing this area. Note - Boats that are worn out get sold ......he had recently bought two brand new boats! Taylor Charters, as a team, seamlessly integrates the entire experience from the pickup through the fishing (and fish handling) to the delivery to the outgoing flight (which keeps your fish cold, even through overnight layovers if needed). The entire team was friendly and accommodating, even arranging for whale watching and Glacier Bay side trips as desired. We stayed at the Majestic inn - Josh and Christina were excellent hosts. The place was immaculate and since Christina is a trained chef with close connections to locally sourced fish and meats, the eating was as good as any high restaurant in San Francisco. Sautéed scallops as an appetizer? Of course. I had never been to Alaska - going via Taylor Charters was as great an experience as I could have hoped. I will be back as soon as I am able. He makes it all look so easy, and we have caught fish every single trip, without exception. You will get to see the most amazing wild-life, from bald eagles to Orcas, enjoy the fantastic scenery, and most importantly, catch a lot of fish, which is filleted, frozen and vacuum packed for you to take back on your flight home. Our boat had a total of 6 people and there was plenty of room on the back of the boat for us all to fish. The captain and his mate (a golden retriever named Cyrus) were great. The captain in conjunction with their two other boats in the area did a great job keeping us on the fish. We had a blast and caught 15 halibut between the 3 of us and 31 total on the boat, the biggest being a 32" 15-16lb halibut that we sent home for a few nice dinners. The trip was great and would highly recommend these guys if you are in the area. Just be aware, the fish shipping company (an outside company) is quite expensive to ship fish back home, but they were extremely convenient to use and did provide great customer service.

My teenage son and I were only in Hoonah (a.k.a. - Icy Strait Point) for a day as a cruise ship stop. Eric did not waste time and we were on the water fishing post haste! We were going for salmon that day and Eric did not disappoint...we enjoyed our 1/2 day and landed 4 salmon (coho and pink). Eric drove us back to the ship and we worked-out the details for processing and shipping our catch back home. The morning after we returned from our vacation, a Fed Ex delivery with our cleaned and vac-packed salmon was delivered. Captain Eric be "Da Man"!
