    Kraut jar in entry way

This is a locals German restaurant where everyone enjoys a good time and a table. There are long tables and benches. We were with local Frankfurters and we got half a table and a group of girls got the other half. It is a fun experience to share a table and stories. Food: got the pork knuckle. The pork knuckle was okay. The skin was too salty and the meat was a bit tough and hard to ge off the bone. It took work to get the meat off the bone but the flavor was good. I got a side of sauerkraut and that was delicious. The potato was okay but lacked some seasoning. My husband got the stuffed schnitzel and he said it was the best he had on our trip. It was unique for it to be stuffed. Dessert: got the hand cheese. It is sliced bread and butter and this cheese that is topped with onions. You take a dab of butter out on the bread, the a slice of cheese and onions. It really tastes good and a local item. Drink: Apple wine. It is okay just a dry Apple wine. Try it, it is local speciality. Staff: very friendly and jovial Bathroom: average cleanliness Restaurant: average cleanliness I gave this 4 stars because of the friendly staff and service. My husband dish was delicious and nice experience.

Apple wine (tasted like apple cider) was their specialty. They also serve wines (sparkling, white, & red wines) but no beer. Most people go there for the Apple wine. The server were pushing the "special": goose (while goose for 4 people) not on menu. We also ordered rindwurst (beef sausage, pork knuckle, spare ribs, veal schnitzel. The goose leg was yummy!, however, the grilled spare ribs were hard & dried as it has been deep fried after grilled. The knuckle also seemed to have flash fried after braised. It got crispy skin but overall the meat was dried and. We had better beef sausage at the food stand than the one we had here. The schnitzel was a messy fried job. (I felt like the one thing should be fried well was not done right). The fried batter were oily and wet, fell off. This place maybe best as pre-dinner aperitif or post dinner digestive.

When you are at Apfelwein Wagner, you really feel like you are in Germany. This is a classic spot for the famous apple wine and authentic German food. I ordered a homemade bratwurst with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (12.90 EUR). For the price, the portion size was pretty large. It was a sizeable and good quality bratwurst. The mashed potatoes were just standard and I wasn't a huge fan of the sauerkraut though (just my personal preference). I also tried a non alcoholic apple wine (2.90 EUR), which was quite good - not just like apple juice, but with a sort of wine flavor even though it was a non-alcoholic version. Note that this restaurant gets super busy during peak times. I was lucky to get a spot without a wait because I went a bit on the early side but before long, the place was totally packed. Everyone had to share the large tables to fit. But that actually just added to the vibes and there was a buzzing atmosphere in there. The restaurant has a historic feel with all the plain wooden tables and German artwork / decor on the walls. It's a family run restaurant and you can tell the staff really care about the place - even though they are busy, the staff are still friendly and move quickly. Overall, Apfelwein Wagner is a really great place for an authentic German food (and apple wine) experience. The food might not blow you away, but the vibes are great if you don't mind a busy environment.

Went here for dinner fairly early in the evening without reservations. They were able to seat us outside on the patio. The restaurant is huge with several dining sections and was busy and vibrant. We came for the green sauce and the apple wine. Neither disappointed. Glad they served it on the side. It was a nice addition to the schnitzel, but probably wouldn't order it regularly. The entire dining experience took a while, but made for a nice evening. My wife and I shared the entree, which I don't think the waiter appreciated. We knew the portions were huge and we had no way to take leftovers, so no reason to waste money or food. Lots of other entree options, so likely will go back next time we're in Frankfurt.

Amazing German ambience. Friendly and timely service. Tasty food. I ordered apple wine that comes in beautiful glasses. Homemade Bratwurst, and an extra side of green sauce. There is a myth that green sauce was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's favourite dish, invented by his mother I enjoyed my visit.

Wow this place was one of the best on our entire trip to German. I still think about how good the food was. This place was packed. We had thankfully made a reservation and were sat right away. We had a booth and the restaurant was very much like an indoor beer garden vibe. We had to order the apfelwein. We got a pitcher to share and it was more than enough. When drinking it you add a little bit of sparkling water to it. I ordered the chopped steak with onions and potatoes. I dream about how good those potatoes and diced onions were. I'd have that meal 100 times if I could. We finished the meal with an apple strudel and it couldn't be better. I would highly recommend this to people visiting.

Fantastic spot for local beer with delicious food. Enviously saw other tables order the pork knuckle, but it was spargel season and I had my priorities. A highlight of my Frankfurt trip!

Authentic Frankfurt/ German food. The green sauce is made with creme fresh My German friend said she knew this restaurant was good as soon as she walked in because of the decor and it seemed like a family business that has been open for a long time Service is friendly and we got an English menu. The food came out really quickly I ordered the Green sauce with hard boiled eggs and boiled potatoes. The green sauce was made with fresh herbs and was really good. The plain potatoes and boiled eggs were surprisingly very delicious with the green sauce and I felt like it didn't need extra seasoning for me. I tried a bit of my friend's croquets which were delicious. I also tried some of her schnitzel, with us a bread and fried meat of your choice. We sat inside with a bar feel and they can accommodate a huge group. They were serving a group of 12 and all their food came out at the same time. There's also a nice outdoor space. In the summertime, there's light until 9pm so the outside was nice weather and nice light

Four stars as the ambiance was nice and schnitzel was good (Frankfurt schnitzel). I would give it 3 stars for service. I think they're just understaffed and probably overworked, but we went inside to let the server know we wanted a table and he said okay for two? we said yes. He responded with "okay? Pick a table wherever you want" so we asked can we sit outside? (There's tables outside by the street - we just didn't see a server nearby those tables so that's why we walked all the way inside) and the server said "outside? May I ask why?" Lol I've never received a question like that so my husband and I were both surprised to which I responded "because it's nicer?" And he laughed okay outside. It was just a weird question. They might just be overworked idk. Either way the food was alright and the apple wine was just okay.

I am updating a previous review. This time during COVID. At each table there's a QR code to scan to sign in for contact tracing and an online menu, the tables are spaces appropriately, the staff seems to be taking all precaution, and they are doing it all with a smile. The service was great and the food was delicious as always. It is worth the visit from out of town, and we took home two bottles of Apfelwein for only €5! Fantastic!!!

Just fantastic! The food, drink, atmosphere, and people are amazing. They make you feel like welcomed and are straight to the point with their service. Do yourself a favor and stop when you visit Frankfurt.

Huge restaurant. Fast service. Good food. Ambiance wasn't great. Apple wine really average.

Popular amongst tourists, Adolf Wagner - or Apfelwein Wagner as many know it - came highly recommended by trusted sources as a place for quality Hessen Fare, and at lunch on Monday the typically raucous space was thankfully calm with most guests either businessmen or the elderly. Located in Sachsenhausen district, an area just south of the Main River, it is through a large Beer garden that guests navigate to the Restaurant itself, the presence of bilingual servers as well as menus most fortunate and a layout across two rooms offering plenty of space at one of several communal tables. Producing Apple Wine through an entirely organic process since 1931, and even offering the bottled Beverage via online website, it was with a 2€ glass in hand that choices were perused and appetite gauged, large portions and low prices no doubt an aspect of Wagner's appeal. Playing traditional music overhead, the heavily wooded space interestingly wrapped around a large tree growing at the center, it was with decisions made that a heavily tattooed server soon brought a bowl of Green Sauce, the sourness and Herbs more pronounced that what was served at Zum Eichkatzerl and the Apfelwein also better thanks to more crispness plus developed vinegary notes. Waiting perhaps fifteen minutes for Food, a pair of older Women fluent in English making conversation that unfortunately turned to American Politics, it was with good timing that two plates arrived simultaneously, the "Frankfurt Style" Pork Schnitzel more thickly breaded than some, perhaps to stand up to the Green Sauce, while Fried Potatoes were buttery, soft and liberally salted. Moving next to Bratwurst, both the half-meter Sausage and accompanying Sauerkraut made on-site, suffice it to say that both on their own were enjoyable while the combination was fantastic, an adjective equally applicable to Cinnamon Apples nestled between Pastry Leafs alongside Whipped Cream, Vanilla Ice Cream and Crème Anglaise.
