It is part of the trend to provide everything needed for a roadtrip, much like the new Wawa stores and Quick Cheks that are showing up along most American byways lately. Admittedly, it is nice to fill the gas tank and the belly in one stop. The gasoline is provided by Valero at competitive prices, but not as low as the Speedways and other no-names of the world. The shop itself does not look very different than the older versions, but there is more variety of soft drinks and snacks, and the coffee seems to also be up a notch or two. Their hot snacks are about the same, with all manner of hot dogs, and other cylindrical foods grilling on the hot tubular steel of the original hot dogger. Yes, you can get a burger shaped like a taquito. In fact, we tried 5 varieties of these semi-Mexican flauta-like creations, and found them fairly tasty and easy to use in a moving motor vehicle. Not that they would become a sought after part of my diet, but in a pinch on the highway, they would do quite nicely. Not bad @ 5 for $4. The entire stop for gas and grub was less than ten minutes. We saved time not needing to make another stop in the almost 2 hour cruise to Queens, NY. The restrooms were clean, too.

This weekend we both had a hankering for a good Italian sub, so we stopped by. We got a HUGE, very well made Stop & Go Italian sub. It was very fresh and tasty, and at only $12, the sub was a steal. I kid you not, I think that thing was pushing 10 pounds. Also, the two men who were working were so nice! They introduced themselves to us, shook our hands and we had some nice conversation that's hard to find these days, especially in a convenience store when usually they're just trying to move people through. The men even threw in a couple of free sodas for us. We were only there about 10 minutes, but in that time a handful of customers came in and they clearly were friends with the workers. One guy even said he moved far away but still comes back here just because it's such a good place with good people. We could literally walk here from our house, so we'll definitely be back!

Because I am the least preppy and run-of-the-mill hanging-on-mom-and-dad's-expense account type. My ruggedness fits right in at 'Palmer Square' with my leather jackets and frayed jeans: the way oil and vinegar mix! That said, I enjoy my outlaw status at Princeton's angled walkways and shops and cliche coffee houses. When I enter Small World Coffee or order up at The Yankee Doodle Tap Room the women visibly gasp at my long locks and muscles in disbelief! People either think I am an astrophysicist on a hallucinogenic or a Greaser from the 1950s. The Rebel Chef has what is sorely needed in this town: frassos. Palmer Square is where all the ritzy brats in this town go to buy their $500 undershirts, Choo-choo train toys and loafers. It's a lit-up snazzy horseshoe shaped little park with some sign posts, historical markers, restaurants, bars, clothes stores, arches and bookshops. People come to walk poodles. It gets busy around here between about 10am until 3pm, after that all the monocled scientists and 'an athletic scholarship in high jump bought me my way to a degree in biology' - types go to their small dorms for long naps. Palmer Square is nonetheless an archaic but valued (if for its aura and celebrated window shopping) nexus and hub for the hamlet of Princeton. Well, as my family will tell you, they love it when I'm wrong and the 7-11 in Princeton Junction is as clean and modern as any convenience outlet in central Jersey. The coffee in particular is a terrific eye opener as you watch with incredulity as the attendants raise the price of gas every ten minutes... but that's happening everywhere.
