I used this place as my primary care provider when I moved to Boone. The receptionists were always…read morehelpful and kind. Their waiting room is nice and they have a charging station for all of your electronic devices. I would definitely recommend! My provider was Stephanie Walker, FNP. I really liked her a lot and found that she was knowledgeable and treated me with respect. Her medical team of nurses and assistants took their time to listen to my needs every time I came in for a visit. **Of note, I just stopped by to gather some medical records and was informed that she no longer works there and instead moved to a new location in the area. This is not really a concern for me, given my flexibility with medical providers, though I find it a little odd I was not informed of this prior to her move... Also, I know others who become really attached to providers and might find this seriously upsetting. Maybe they attempted to reach out by phone or email or mail, but I didn't receive anything?

I was treated at Appalachian regional this morning 3/30/24. I had an acute cough, body aches and…read morechills. The appointment was very easy to make, the reception desk young man very pleasant, the nurse who did the triage was caring professional and understanding. So far it was the treatment we've come to expect from this health system as we've been patients for over a decade., and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Dr McCracken came in in a reasonable time did the perfunctory exam left the room came back to tell us about meds he was prescribing. He was just a satisfactory physician, though I'd have preferred he didn't breeze through the exam (the waiting room was empty and stayed that way during the entirety of our visit so he wasn't rushing to the next patient.) My particular issue is with the summary of the visit which we are privy to. He summed me up as an "overweight elderly ill woman". Now, though I fancy myself as my 20 something active trim self I AM in fact carrying those extra pounds at 70 years old...NOTHING that would put me at the overweight limit. I eat healthfully, exercise daily and take great care with my appearance. This is not a vanity issue but I have dealt with food issues and eating disorders since my early teens. Reading this could have nearly sent me to a spiral but I'm strong now. What if it was in the chart if a young girl dealing with the same? Now that records are available I would suggest that this medical provider brush up on his people skills. You may be younger Dr McCracken but 70 is NOT elderly anymore.

The Johnson City office doesn't maintain a large enough staff to handle the needs of the patients…read moreand the quality of care has gone severely downhill during the last year. They currently employ only one nurse. This means that patients coming in for shots are not seen in a timely manner but are being made to wait 45 minutes or more before anyone even speaks to them, much less gives them their allergy shots. People who work and who have lives can't devote up to an hour out of their day sitting in a waiting room while the nurse is occupied allergy testing one patient after another all day long in the back rooms. The receptionist is rude and she tries to turn patients away from getting their shots if it's a day when a lot of allergy testing is going on. I've heard her warn people it's a long wait and I've heard her tell patients on the phone that it's not a good day to come in. At one time this was a very nice place to receive allergy injections. You could sign in and the nurse would call your name within 5 minutes or less. I'm going to seek treatment elsewhere because I have a full time job and a family and I can't keep making wasted trips where I don't even receive my shot at all.

One time I had to call there four times to reach somebody. I am now trying to reach her for a refill on my medication. The receptionists are nice, but that is far as it goes. They say, I will send a note back to the nurse yada yada yada. You can send all the notes back to the nurse and they still do not call me. That is a very unprofessional way to treat a patient. I know they are busy with other patients, but surely there is 10 minutes out of the nurse's schedule where she could just call me back.

The ladies at the reception desk were sweet, fun, patient, and made me feel comfortable. The caring nurse was kind, talkative, and smart. The nurse helping me w/the breathing machine/tests was excellent. Very professional & knowledgeable. So pleasant. Final, my doctor (Fertel), was wonderful!! He reviewed results, smartly & easily discussed results & listened to me with a great and open dialog. Made sure I knew he was available for me as needed. The location is easy to find. Lots of parking. Clean and open sitting area...wonderful!!! So, conclusion: highly recommend the facility & its quality staff. This was my first time visit. Don't expect to return. But was very happy with visit & results. Kudos to all!
