This is our first visit to Mille Lacs and after glancing through options the ratings on Yelp helped our decision. It's important to know a lot of the options with high rankings may not reflect the kind of lodging you desire so do your homework. We wanted cabin style lakeside housing that was simple yet provided options.... Appeldoorn's delivered. We rented cabin 1 which is 300 feet from the water. They have a sandy beach with two docks and water toys for kids including kayaks, paddle boats, a blob and in water slide. Throw in a sandy beach that is sifted daily you have a great place to enjoy this massive lakes beauty. The front desk is extremely helpful and they have a lot of convenience store items available for reasonable price. They also arrange fishing chartered and have rental equipment weather permitting. We also dined at the resort for breakfast and dinner and were impressed with the quality and originality of the food. The dining options are closed Monday and Tuesday so you will need to explore the local area. They have four varieties of housing and they all seem pretty awesome, we are definitely planning to return! read more

OK WHAT AN UPGRADE!!!! I was here a few years ago for a wedding, and was not impressed to say the least. But, things have changed for the better in a BIG way!! Very different. The current event coordinator, Mariah, knocks everything she does of of the ball park. I was here for another wedding, and I was in for a huge surprise. There were many improvements, too many to list! The new wedding area is perfectly located. A permanent Arbor is there for the couple to decorate as they wish, or not. The lakeside now has 2 docks, many aquatic amenities, and a great sandy beach. Even a lakeside bar! I could go on and on, but you need to see this place on Mille Lacs to really appreciate it. However here is my thoughts on some menu items there: CHEESEBURGER SLIDERS toasted bun, gooey cheese, fresh burger SHRIMP COCKTAIL: large fresh shrimp, not from a shrimp farm in Yuma AZ PECAN ENCRUSTED WALLEYE FINGERS: none better (it should be a law that every restaurant on Mille Lacs offers something like this) but try it here NEW LOOK NEW FOOD NEW VIBE read more

Well, so far not so good. I hope to update this review because we haven't even checked in yet!!! We got here in the Am. We knew we wouldn't be able to check in in the morning, but we came back at 130 I sent my boys in to ask for the cabin code. They came back and said "dad they were mean". I went to ask if there was anyway we could get in before 3 because it's raining and we're waiting in our car!! The camp is empty as it's a Sunday you would think common hospitality would be to clean the rooms people were checking into. They wouldn't check, they contained to stone face reply "check in is at 3" It's now 1:50 and we can't get in to fix a snack so we are forced to drop $80 at their restaurant! No way they will make any effort for any hospitality or even basic communication! Rude short and unprofessional. It's a shame because the marketing was decent. read more

We stayed at Appeldoorn's for a wedding that was on a Friday evening. We had made our reservations back in March for a wedding in June, we unfortunately did not pay attention to the dates and discovered that the dates were incorrect. Appeldoorn's made it right by giving us an upgrade to our reservation for the correct dates. The facility itself is very nice, family oriented, clean and quiet. There is a small fitness room on site which I utilized, stocked with water in a fridge, towels and just the right equipment to allow me to get a workout done. A small game room. We rented a pontoon boat for both Thursday evening and Friday during the day before the wedding. The restaurant/bar on site had a great breakfast, good dinner menu, the bar is open until 9PM which keeps the environment quiet. The wedding was able to be held outdoors, very nice setting and the event center availability for the dinner/dance was very nice. I would really recommend this resort, it was a really nice experience, thank you for the hospitality. read more

We stayed here for a week in July 2019 in cabin 1 close to beach. beach has everything you need to have fun! Trampoline, slide, kayaks , etc . Cabin was clean up to date. Beds were comfy,air conditioning worked when we needed to cool down! Had breakfast here and a few cocktails all were excellent highly recommend the bloody Mary's! My daughter loved the eggs Benedict! Everyone was very helpful and happy to be there we definitely will be back! Pet friendly too which is awesome! read more

Lodging was beautiful. Comfortable beds. Great beach area, fun inflatables in the water for the kids! Service was good. My big concern was when a woman on a tractor brought a boat out to launch it. She brought it right into the area kids were swimming and was backing up with my daughter within three feet of the back tires of the trailer. When I ran in the water to say how close she was to the kids, she retorted with something like "I've done this X amount of years and never hit a kid." Not a reassurance that my concern was heard. When my parents came to check out the resort and told the front desk for an hour or two, they were told it would cost $20 per person, which seemed excessive. We went and got a discount after expressing our dismay and explaining that they were just coming to check out the resort for another possible visit. read more

This review is based mostly on the lodging. My family and I were in town from Michigan for a memorial service. We were gifted a stay at Appeldoorn's by another family member. Being a Michigan native, I really had no idea what to expect. Much to my surprise, the resort was really nice! It appeared as though it had been updated recently - the floors, countertops, wood trim, etc, still looked relatively new. We had a joint suite, 1 bedroom on one side 2 bedrooms on the other. Overall, I was really pleased with our stay. The beds were comfortable, everything was clean, the front desk employees were extremely friendly and able to answer any questions we had. We also rented their banquet room to host dinner after the memorial service. The food was pretty good, everyone was able to get plenty to eat. The staff made sure everything ran smoothly and were super attentive to the guests. Really, the only suggestion I'd have would be to PLEASE make the coffee stronger!!! Lol. Our trip was back in May and it was chilly so we didn't get to do much on the lake. In warmer weather, I'd definitely consider this place a great spot for vacation with family or just a weekend getaway. read more

Enjoyed a boat ride across Mille Lacs from Garrison and had lunch here. It was nice to be able to tie off our boat for no charge while we enjoyed a meal. The service was very good, and the food was reasonably priced and very tasty. We are definitely looking forward to another visit later this summer. read more

Actually a 4.5! Delicious appetizers walleye fingers and snake bites! (Apparently the fingers are better than the toes... hahaha) Get the burger. Done. Burger. Just get one. This was a gorgeous winter getaway. Our ice-fishing experience was fantastic. Since we flew in from the East Coast, we needed to rent everything. The fish houses come with rattle wheels, bunks, an outhouse, good heat, and even the smaller options are plenty cozy. We opted to rent a couple additional poles for jigging, and a fish finder. Everything we needed was available, and the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. And we caught a Walleye that was a keeper! We had it for dinner, as the perfect end to our day on the ice. The cabin we rented for overnight was beautiful, spacious, and toasty warm through the freezing wind. It had a stunning view of the frozen lake and a gas fireplace. If you book a cabin for overnight stay and plan to cook, I recommend stocking up at the grocery store in town for staple food supplies. But the cabin kitchen had all the tools we needed. All in all, Appledoorn's was the highlight of my MN visit, and I can't recommend it enough! read more

My husband and I had our wedding here, and have visited on a few seperate occasions as well. The view is stunning, the food is excellent, the cabins are homey, and the staff is incredible. I always feel so welcome whenever I visit, and the event planner Jodi is hilarious and down to earth. I recommend Appeldoorn's every chance I get, and cannot wait to visit again! read more

We had a great time here on an ice fishing trip with some work buddies. Great accommodations and the restaurant has excellent prime rib.

Restaurant was a pleasurable experience. The food preparation time was in line with the food quality, value, flavor, ingredients. The service was friendly and sincere. Table cloths and cloth napkins, very clean. The daily specials were special! Ate with 7 others, all quite satisfied and we are looking forward to a return visit. Beautiful resort! Grounds and beach are clean and well-maintained. There were plenty of chairs on the beach. Our cabin was small but clean and updated with air conditioning. Kitchen came with dishes and had a coffee maker (much appreciated!) We rented a boat from the resort for the day which was great! My only feedback would be to lower the mirror in the cabin bathroom because it was too high for us to use. read more

I just wanted to send you a quick email to let you know that my family had an amazing time at the Appeldoorn's Reunion House! We enjoyed the spacious rooms, the available space, and the multiple kitchens. We named each kitchen to help remember where each meal would be served! ;) The upstairs kitchen was the "lost kitchen" ... if you have lost your way, you can have a snack there before attempting to venture back. The main large kitchen was just the main kitchen were most meals were served. And the kitchen with the 12 person table off the living room was the "breakfast kitchen" where only breakfast was served. We had lots and lots of fun memories at the cabin! :) We also enjoyed walking out to the island off the main lodge area in which we met another couple from Dallas! And we enjoyed making snow angels, taking a local hayride through town, and lots and lots of sledding. We signed up for our second season at Appeldoorns. This is a special getaway place for us, it's clean, family oriented, well kept & most importantly - quiet. We have breakfast, head to the beach for the day (Weather permitting), bring snacks in a cooler, kayak, paddle board, read, play horseshoes, volleyball, ride our bikes or go for a walk. There are comfortable chairs to watch kids as the play on the play ground equipment, clean restrooms at the main building, tarred roadways (great for wiggle boards & roller blades) and concrete sidewalks with marked crosswalks. There aren't organized activities for the kids, but that keeps us in charge of our family activities. The garage sales in nearby areas are great fun as is the Farmer's Market & local stores. In the evening we BBQ, make s'mores at the campfire & swap stories from the day activities. We've had a variety of weather -mostly sunny- but the alternative provides time for board games & cards. They have the creamiest ice cream AND they had THE BEST 4th of July fireworks we've ever seen last summer! We're going back. read more

I had my wedding at the resort and every thing went off with out a hitch. Jody helped me out in every possible way she could and I couldn't be happier. She is super professional and doesn't mess around. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. I love this place!
