Sugar Lake Lodge - Free stand up paddleboard rentals - they were actually nice and stable, too

A really wonderful lakefront resort, with everything you might want. They have free water sport…read morerentals like stand up paddle boards, kayaks and canoes. They also have free bike rentals, a great sand volleyball court, horseshoes, basketball, tennis and pickle ball. And if the lake is warm enough, there is a waterslide in the lake which looked fun. We were here Memorial Day weekend, and the weather was beautiful our first day, so we took out the paddleboards, and that was fun. The weather got chilly quickly, so I didn't have the opportunity to try the rest of the amenities. The pool is currently closed for construction. (There is a nice pool at the YMCA in Grand Rapids which we used one day for a $10 day pass). We stayed in a two bedroom lakefront cabin which was nice, but fairly rustic, and one of the bedrooms had absolutely no storage, (no closet, shelves or dresser). Next time, I think we would stay in the lodge rooms, which are a bit more upscale, with fireplaces, full kitchens, Jacuzzi tub and nicer furnishings. They have a restaurant/bar on site with a an outdoor patio and nice view of the lake, which is convenient. They also have free coffee and muffins in the morning at the front desk and at Otis's.The staff and management were incredibly helpful, friendly and accommodating. I definitely recommend, and look forward to coming here again, hopefully when the weather is a little warmer!

Once we arrived we pulled right up to the front door which made it so easy for luggage. Upon entry the room was cute, clean, comfortable and perfectly appointed. On appearance it is a very cute little motel. We checked in with another couple around 3PM. We were given room #108, which had new carpet. You could tell the beds were older and the rest of the room could use an update. We left for the party around 4:30 PM, got back to the Ripple River Motel about 9:15 PM. Crawled into bed about 9:30 PM and made a phone call to our daughter. With the light from my cell phone I happened to catch a bug crawling on my pillow case. When I smashed the bug it was full of blood. It was big enough to see. When we jumped out of the bed and turned the lights on the bed had at least 50 bugs we could see. I took pictures and called the front desk to let them know the bed was infested. We also told her we would be checking out, as would the other couple (3 1/2 Hour drive back home). The front desk manager refunded our money immediately. She also apologized up and down. She told us to come back in a month and the room would be perfect. We have thrown away our luggage & clothes. BEWARE!!
