I have been thoroughly impressed with this facility! They have tremendous, caring staff who really made an effort to provide the best care possible for my Dad. He can be a challenging guy (and whose Dad really isn't at times, right?), but the staff always seemed to do their best to help him with whatever he needed. While sometimes food can be questionable, He was pleasantly surprised with the meals, often joking that he wanted to bring the cooks home and give my Mom a break! He had a great experience with the therapy team there and if he ever needs help again, I would absolutely bring him back here! read more

Worst experience ever. I arrived on a stretcher and was dropped in my room at 7pm from the hospital after a major operation.. I was due for my pain medication that they knew about at 7pm. No one even came to my room to greet me. I asked several times crying for my meds and was completely ignored until finally a nurse came in at 11:30. The room was dirty, the linens and bathroom were not changed and my bathroom wasn't cleaned once. After taking a medication that made me ill I threw up several times from my bed and the aid cleaned it up with towels and then left. The food was disgusting and barely edible. The other positive were the two amazing physical therapists. This place should be closed down. read more

We had to threaten to call the police to get back the medications she arrived with. We also did not leave with all the items we arrived with. Awful. read more

Gave me the wrong number for a direct line to her room. Tried calling for 2 days till I called the front desk and they found out they wrote her room number wrong. then they told me how "they were too busy" to be able to add me as an emergency contact. Cus it was a "nut house". Not good enough, I'd avoid if possible. read more

My mother was their for bladder infection.they gave her insulin then no food- almost killed her. Let her sleep in chair in hall.let her sleep with food in mouth. She was rushed to hospital with pneumonia and died. She has terrible time their.please don't trust this place with your loved one. read more

Let me start off by saying that one "Apple" does not spoil the whole bunch... there are caring, kind & compassionate people that work here. That said, my grandmother has been a resident there for 7yrs now. The business was taken over recently, previously known as Fowler Nursing Home. Since the corporate take over many of staff that worked there for years were forced to quit. The management has lowered the staff per resident ratio to much lower than it was, hence less care for your loved one. This place needs a union. They expect 2 aids to care for an entire wing of residents on a regular basis. Nearly every aspect this center has been downgraded since the take over. I only have the previous (Fowler) level of care to compare Apple to -- I've not had any experience with any other nursing homes & am by no means an expert. read more

When my mother was there - many years ago.....I would go and visit her at 7pm each night. Most nights I would count about 13 residents sitting in the hallway. One evening, at 7pm I noticed all the residents were sleeping in bed. at 7PM? At that time they were cleaning the carpet in the hallway. when I asked the nurse if they gave the patients medication to make them sleep she started to yell at me - but she never made eye contact with me. The next night I returned at 7pm and everyone was up and out of bed.... the same 13 residents were sitting in the hallway. when I told them I would take my mother out of Fowler - Apple, they became extremely RUDE to me. On the day of discharge, the nurse THREW the discharge papers on the bed and left me to walk out by myself with my demented mother. I have a friend there now - and how I wish she were somewhere else. I went to see her and she started to tell me more bad stories about her visit there. I was not surprised. How I wish the state of Connecticut would silently investigate them. I am sure there are some very good employees there .....but there are many shortcomings that I can see. Branford Hills - is a much better place. Try to avoid Apple Rehab if possible. that is my honest opinion. terrible place - indeed....and shame on the medical director and administrators for NOT making customer improvements. . read more

TERRIBLE! Never ever put one of your loved ones in this facility, Cromwell CT. We feel that they abused my grandmother. Every time we went to see my grandmother she would throw her hands over her face like someone was striking her. She was of the CRN's at Apple Cromwell. My grandmother tried to start walking she was not ready and we kept telling the staff she was going to fall. After we asked Apple to lower my grandmothers bed and put pads around it (actually this was Cromwell apples idea) They didn't and "oh by the the way we can't find the pads". My grandmother fell that evening She said she hid under the covers to her bed so they wouldn't know she fell; and didn't ask them anything because they would holler at her. She had to go to the hospital with a huge egg on her head. Pretty much the rest of her time was hiding under her covers hiding herself. They never got the food close enough for my grandmother to reach it. The family had to go in to make sure she was getting fed. She had pneumonia at the time. We kept asking them to take her out of the chair because she was so tired they wouldn't. The staff as a whole was 1/3 wonderful the other 2/3 were mean, horrible people. If you want your elderly family members abused go to Apple, Cromwell. If I could enter a Negative 4 rating I would. read more

A family member of mine was in Apple Rehab Mystic. I was impressed by the facility and the staff members. A great place for short term rehab needs and long term care. I was welcomed warmly by the team of staff when assisting my loved one from the hospital to the facility. She had a great experience after her hip procedure and the rehab team was excellent at getting her back on her feet. Highly recommended. read more

It was very difficult to place my dad in a long term care facility however, I couldn't have picked a better place for my dad. I was extremely impressed the minute I met with the social worker and the director of nursing. It was easy to see how they truly care about each of the residents and provide individualized care based on the needs of each person. Apple Rehab of Guilford has a dedicated, professional and informative staff that has always keep me involved and updated in my dad's care. I appreciate and value how patient, understanding and empathetic everyone is with not only my dad but myself included. When I walk in to visit my dad and I see him getting a hug or someone giving him a kiss or simply talking the time to rub him or greet him in a friendly, genuine way it just warms my heart. Even though my dad has dementia a couple of times he commented on how nice it was and how he liked it here. That reaffirmed what a loving, caring, kind facility it is. While it is hard to watch a loved one decline and become dependent on others for care it is wonderful to know that my dad is well cared for by nurturing and loving caregiving. I'm so truly grateful a friend suggested that I look into Apple Rehab for my dad. read more

My mother has been at Apple in Saybrook for 8 Months. It was not an easy decision, no one wants to Live in a Nursing Home Long Term. It was not easy for her to leave her home of many years.. The Nurses, Aides, Therapists and The Administration are all so nice and patient with her, she settled in quickly. She has made many friends, there are always activities that she can choose to go to. And being a fussy eater, we were worried about the food, but we were so pleased that the food is wonderful... an impressive menu with wide weekly variety. When she has had medical problems they take care of it immediately...Without the Patience and Caring of Everyone it wouldn't work, they are All So Wonderful..We couldn't be happier. read more

the Mystic facility is tired...you walk in and the first impression is you know the owner Brian Foley is raking in the money hand over fist...and yet...he does nothing to raise the bar as far as making these facilities visually pleasing to the eye. The carpet needs to be replaced, a fresh coat of paint, wallpaper and new furniture (it's old). On the plus side...the staff seems pretty decent...so far.
