5 days ago my half rack of ribs were old, they left the sour cream out of the bag for 2 different meals. i did not have any plastic ware in the bag. i gave them 3 stars because the potatoes were tasty. my wife said here steak was ok, but was tender. no steak sauce...i had given them 3 stars took them back after my son would not eat his chicken fingers he said they were soft, so itook alook at them they were not done. that is a great way to get someone sick or worse food poisoning. call the store back the manager offered me a replacement. everyone knows no redos. 112 read more

I go back and forth with this particular Applebee's and I'm coming close to canceling them completely as one of my lunchtime spots. There have been times when visiting the food and service has been great, but they are very inconsistent with both. My last visit everyone's food was over cooked and very dry. The waitress never refilled our drinks and didn't give us the military discount that they have given in the past. I'm willing to give them one last chance before I completely write them off. read more

I walked in and the hostesses asked where would I like to sit, I stated that I would like to sit at a table top and the manager/hostesses (Pat) tried to seat me at a table that had rain dripping from the ceiling, when I asked to be seated in an area that had an available table she told me that I couldn't sit there because I was the only one eating and that table sat four people. The issue with her statement was that there were no other people waiting to be seated. I always try to look through a positive lens but I think it was more so a racial issue...but either way, it is what it is...1 star from me, don't pass go and don't stop here...keep it moving.... read more

My children and I visited this location last night for dinner. Our server, Lucy, was wonderful! Lucy never ventured far from our table so that meant our glasses were never empty for more than a second or so. That is an indicator for me as to how the rest of the service is going to go. If my glass stays empty for too long it usually goes downhill from there. Lucy was great and the food was really good! We're going to call it a win! read more

Applebee's is one of my favorite places to go because they just have good food, everything that I have had is just delicious! When my children do good in school they have cards that appreciate them so their meal is free and I like that a lot, because my children feel like not only I'm proud of them but other people are too!!! read more

If I could put a lower rating, I would. There were only about 6 customers total in the restaurant when we arrived. We were seated, and then ignored by staff for 20+ minutes before we finally walked out. Staff was attending a table next to us, would make eye contact with us, and we would think they were going to come over, but then they would walk away like we weren't there.. Multiple employees were playing on their phones, and not paying ANY attention to customers. Same location, my aunt called an order to go. The food was decent however our server Ms. Renee M wasn't the best server to have. She was a bit distracted from the primary focus of serving the other guests. Her attitude was pleasant but lack attention to pick up empty dishes and pour refills made for a less than satisfactory experience. We walked in the door and the manager was standing there in the waiting area and completely ignored us. Strike 1. That same manager proceeded to talk to another couple who clearly wasn't waiting to be seated, while my party and the party behind us continued to wait because there wasn't a host. Strike two. After finally being seated in one of their MANY open tables, we continued to wait for a server to come take our orders, or even come say hello. That never happened. Strike three. We did not show up right before closing time. I even noticed the party that got seated after us was waited on and had drinks while we still haven't even been greeted yet. I observed several servers chatting amongst themselves while we sat there. After waiting a good 15ish minutes at the table waiting for somebody, anybody, to come to our table and no one doing so, we got up and left, never to return again. read more

So I was here for late night dessert and drinks. When you walk in seems like a pretty busy Applebee's. I sat at the bar and the bartender asked for our order but didn't really smile. We ordered a beer which was not cold at all. Since we don't wast alcohol we asked for ice so that we can pour the beer in the mug. I ordered a margarita, that too was not tasty so I got a shot to add on top of my watered down drink. My desert came that was amazing because I was craving chocolate. As I sit there I notice that the bartender left for a bit, which was fine, but no one cleaned anything. The tables had food on there, looks like used plates were stacked on top of each other on the other end of the bar. I understand that after a certain time people take breaks but it looks gross when your eating and things around you are not clean. We asked for our check and the bartender not once asked how everything was or if we even needed another drink! So long story short we never finished our drinks and the icy beer was a bad idea. And if they don't clean tables and chairs I was scared to see if they cleaned anything else! Honestly would not come here again. I'm getting pretty disappointed with this city. I have tried to eat at these locations but seems they do not have customer service, maybe just bad management or maybe that's just the way people are. Good way to represent this town. Sadly there's a lot of hotels around here with out of towners, people who come to spend money away from home or just visiting but not want to stay in Birmingham. But if this place isn't fun, friendly service, and clean I would drive the extra miles to go to Birmingham. I hope y'all fix this place because Applebee's is the only place that serves alcohol late. There should be no reason for people to not want to come back. To be honest I just left Birmingham to have a great meal but since this was close to my hotel I wanted a night cap! Staying at nearby motel on vacation and ate here 3 times this week. Southwestern steak salad the first night was average but the Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp was very good a few nights later. The final night I had the grilled Shrimp Skewer and Grilled Chicken Breast with broccoli and fries was also very good. We would've left but we were meeting family there. Finally she gets back with our drinks, takes our order, forgets to put my mother in laws salad order in before her food. I think she forgot the food all together because the people in front of us walked in 20 minutes after us & they got their food 10 minutes before us. That place does crappy because it's not managed properly & because of staff like that. I have visited this location off and on for 15+ years. Most of the time, the food is good, service is average, and I am satisfied when I leave. Service and food quality started slipping in early 2013. I stopped going as frequently. I visited in March 2015 and had the worst experience there to date. I reluctantly went back in June to find it had completely rebounded. The service was first rate. The food was cooked properly and served fast. My tea glass was kept filled. Turns out, there was a change in management. I have been back about once a month since then to find it is consistently good. Due to the history of poor experiences, I am not quite ready to give them 5 stars. If they remain consistent for a year, I will bump it up. read more

We were in town for a graduation and our hotel was right next to this place. We ordered take out. We got the 4 cheese and chicken pasta and a grilled cheese kids meal. The pasta was super bland and dry compared to how we get it in Vegas where we live. The chicken pieces barely had any sauce on them. And it didn't come with the bread stick it usually comes with. Big disappointment. The grilled cheese looked slightly burnt and to top things off they didn't give us eating utensils for our take out order so we had to hunt some down at our hotel. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Wish we would have taken heed to all the other reviews. read more

Took my staff there for a lunch today. Waitress did not know anything when we asked about the menu, I.e. What ingredients came on a particular sandwich. Waitress was extremely rude and tried to argue with me when my order was delivered wrong. We should have known we were in trouble when as we were seated, 2 separate tables across from us were loudly complaining to servers and manager and getting bills adjusted and desserts comped because of screw ups. Waitress made sure we understood that while one of us ordered a "14 minute lunch" our other meals would NOT arrive until later. We said fine. What we didn't realize was it would be almost 25 MORE minutes after the "14 minute lunch" arrived until our other 2 meals arrived. I can't fathom how chicken tenders and a grilled chicken sandwich could be that delayed. Then our check was delivered and had incorrect extra charges on it that I asked be removed before we paid. All I could think is if they struggle this much with a half empty restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon, what would they do with a full one?? We will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. There's a Cracker Barrel next door and that's where we usually go for our staff lunches so we will go back there next time. read more

We ate there along with some friends after traveling in from Louisiana to attend our daughters graduation from Bama. It was suggested to us by the hotel since we'd get a 10% discount by showing them the room key. Our server was really great, especially since we had a group of 8. The food was typical Applebee's food. Although my son got sick after eating a chicken and pasta dish, I'm not sure it was their fault. The issue came when we were ready to pay our checks. The server forgot to put the 10% discount on our friends bill. She came and told him after she'd run his card and explained that she couldn't back it out because of how their system was set up, but she had already alerted the manager. Our friends, at this point, were very nice to the young lady and were like, we'll, stuff happens. Then, the manager arrives and acts extremely rude, as if we were in the wrong and had been making odd demands. At this point, no one had asked for anything. The manager throws down 2 cards worth $5 off of appetizers after $25 had been spent on their next meal. Our friend was not even asking for anything, especially for the manager to be rude and he really didn't want their measly $5 discount card at that point. So, if you go, watch out for a manager in his mid 30's with a poorly grown goatee and a really bad attitude. He's out to ruin your night and berate his employees for making honest mistakes. read more

My husband and I visited this location on our way from Texas to Georgia. Our experience was great from beginning to end. The hosts sat us quickly and our server was on her A game. Ashley arrived and got our drink orders almost immediately and made several suggestions helping us decide on our meals. She made casual conversation about our trip and made us feel welcome. Best service we have ever had! After a long day of driving the Shrimp Wonton Stir Fry was as delicious as she made it out to be. She even told us to be careful on our trip as if she actually cared about it. You don't get good experiences like that from hardly anyone anymore. Thanks Ashley for making our experience pleasurable. The bessemer location has never been a location I liked. The food was always good bit the service was always terrible. I stopped going for quite some time. I recently went back about a month ago and we got a server named Courtney. She was spectacular. We had by far the best service ever. We could not believe it when she she had only been there 5 months and that it was her first waitress job. She was an unbelievably great waitress. I don't enter many restaurants and end up leaving before ordering, but I made an exception for this establishment. I tend to shy away from Applebees in general, as they've been on a steady decline in service and food quality for at least the last 10 years. However, close proximity to hotel won out, so I made the exception. As we entered the lot, it was sparsely populated for a Saturday evening during prime dinner hours (6:25pm). We we're greeted promptly by a friendly hostess and were seated immediately. And that is where the good service ended. We sat for at least 15 minutes in a less than half full, dimly lit dining room waiting on a waitress to at least acknowledge us and possibly take a drink order. As we waited, two hostesses leaned and talked to each other, not more than 10 feet away, neither noticing that we were left unattended. A manager milled about the dining area, never making contact with any guest, probably too afraid of the responses he'd receive. And then, she arrived. The rhythm of her slothlike gait nearly hypnotized us us she sauntered toward us. It was slowwwww motion. Without making eye contact, she wispered her introduction and asked if we we're ready to order. My wife looked at me, and I at her, and we ordered 1 Bud light, knowing we would share it, so we could get out of there as quickly as possible without being rude. So, the bill was $3.96 and I handed her a $5 and we hit the road. A missed opportunity for a nice tip, and further reinforcement as to why I stay away. It will be a long time before I revisit an Applebee's, if ever again. read more
