Bad experience working for this company. If you look on their website, they are very "Director" and "Manager" heavy. There is no need for this and is counter productive. Additionally, they charge a lot of money that goes towards middle management and director salaries. They treat their tutors terribly by underpaying them and forcing them complete hours of unpaid work. For example, the tutors must call all of their families to create a tutoring schedule of 10-20 hours or more. This takes a lot of time per family. The company does not pay their tutors for their time. The tutors are also required to do secretarial and administrative paper work. If something isn't correct, the tutor is threatened with disciplinary action or termination. The middle management, upper management and HR department are all personal friends, and when they decide they don't like you, they stop giving you assignments. They enjoy hurting innocent people for the fun of it, and they have developed quite a plan of stalking their employees who are working many hours to make a living. Parents are paying thousands of dollars for tutoring packages with a promise that their child will get a certain score. You should think twice about paying thousands to a company who rides on the coattails of the employees who they consider their low level employees. They make fun them and intentionally set out to hurt many people for the power of it. Pay attention to their massive turn over of tutors and Sales employees. These groups are threatened on a daily basis while the "friends" play cards and spend hours at lunch or in gossip groups making fun of the very employees who pay for their living. Very sad that this goes on at all. read more

Applerouth was terrific in matching the right tutor with each of my kids, a concern for two teenagers. My daughter was paired with Jeannette Lowe for her SAT prep. Jeannette is an outstanding tutor and versed in all subject areas. She was personable and very organized , and in 6 weeks my daughter improved her SAT composite 200 points to a 2250, putting her in good stead to apply to selective colleges. She didn't waste time on what my daughter had mastered, but lasered in on specific areas of concern, especially the essay. The result was terrific. Jeannette is now helping my daughter prep for her SAT II subject tests in Math II and Literature. This was far better than a generic prep class, enabling my daughter to achieve her testing goals efficiently. My son needed help in his HS geometry class, and likewise Applerouth suggested a terrific tutor, Geoff Short. Geoff did both remedial work with my son, and helped with study skills and test prep. There was significant improvement in my son's understanding, confidence and ultimately his grades. They are now working ahead to cover new material even before it's presented in class, so that when it is, my son already has a base line of understanding and context. Both tuturs have been knowledgeable, personable, and organized, with a plan to address each teen's needs, which were very different. We strongly recommend Applerouth's services. read more

I used Appelrouth for both ACT tutoring and SAT Subject Test (Lit and U.S. History) tutoring. I had Jen Gaulding as an ACT tutor (one of the 'premium' tutors) - she was great! Appelrouth tutoring sessions are organized, well-thought out, and provide you with plenty of study aids. Jen was sharp and experienced, and helped me to raise my ACT score by 6 points (I ended up scoring in the 99th percentile). I am sure that with my pre-Appelrouth scores, I would not be in the position I am today, headed off this fall to study economics at the University of Chicago. That being said, the tutoring I received on the U.S. History test was not as helpful. I believe this is through no fault of the tutor. I studied my butt off for that test, reading the entire McGraw Hill book the three weeks before the test and making flash cards for each section. On such heavily content-based tests like the History test, I have found tutoring to not be as helpful, simply because there is not a lot of strategy and tricks that can be taught - it's all about how well you know the material. But overall, I have a had a very positive experience with Appelrouth tutoring. I would recommend them to anyone stuck in a rut with the SAT/ACT, baffled by intentionally obfuscated verbiage and backwards logic. read more

We are extremely pleased with our SAT/ACT tutoring experience through Applerouth! Our account representative Claire Strowd asked lots of questions about our daughter's personality, learning style, etc. before choosing a tutor for her. We were thrilled with her selection! Harry Veilleux was an excellent fit in regards to knowledge and personality! Our daughter's mock scores were already strong for both the SAT and the ACT, so Claire did not try to sell us more tutoring hours than she needed, which other tutoring services had tried to do. In just a few sessions, Harry was able to pinpoint her weaker areas and tell her exactly what to work on to improve them. While they only worked on the SAT for eight hours, she was able to raise her score 190 points. Similarly, they only spent two hours focused on the ACT, and she was able to raise her science score five points, resulting in a 2-point gain in her composite score. We cannot recommend Harry and Applerouth enough! It was well worth the investment! read more

Savanna St. Clair is a fabulous tutor. My daughter's scores on both the SAT and ACT went up significantly after tutoring with her. Applerouth uses mock tests initially to determine whether a student is naturally inclined to do better on the ACT or SAT, so the student can concentrate on how that test is structured, as well as the subjects in which the student needs the most help. This saved a lot of time and stress! The ACT is not as popular as the SAT in the south, but every college we looked at accepted ACT scores, and many colleges accept the ACT in lieu of SAT subject tests. So my daughter did not have to take any SAT subject tests, which also cut down on the stress and the preparation time. My daughter's final ACT score was so good, she got merit scholarship offers and honor college acceptances from many of the colleges to which she applied. At first I was skeptical how much they could help my daughter, who is not exactly an eager student. I have known Patrick Magrath for a few years now. He has done a wonderful job helping me with all kinds of tutoring all throughout high school. Mainly was for the SAT, which got me into the wonderful place I am in today! Before I got with Patrick I had a few tutors that really did not get me and could not get inside my head. We have used Applerouth Tuoring Services with our daughter for the past several months for both SAT tutoring and subject tutoring in Pre-Calculus. We have had two different tutors, one functioning as the SAT tutor and the other as the Pre-Calculus tutor. We have been very pleased with both tutors and with the results to date. Both Bobby (SAT) and Mir (Pre-Calculus) have been excellent matches for her. Both of these tutors have given her effective approaches to the test challenges. They are both able to effectively explain alternate / different approaches to the material. I honestly feel that Appelrouth Tutoring factored HUGELY in my daughter's acceptance to her dream school---a terrific liberal arts college that she had the grades for, but not the scores. She still got accepted with scores below the median--her learning disability makes testing hard-- but Jenn Gaulding and the team at Appelrouth got her SAT scores into the acceptable range for that institution. Applerouth was recommended for SAT prep by a friend and my son's guidance counselor. He had taken the SAT once when we hired them and needed to pull his scores up a little bit for the next time he took it. When I called the person who advised me on our game plan, she helped me find an AWESOME tutor (Nick D.) for my son. He was excellent in his knowledge of how to help him but also in giving him confidence for his next exam. We would highly recommend Applerouth Tutoring Services, especially John Cadenhead one of their tutors. Everyone we dealt with was extremely helpful and professional and they took a genuine interest in our child's progress. Our son took an Applerouth course in the summer before 10th grade and he felt that he learnt a great deal. He then went on to have private tutoring by John and this was money well spent. All in all he was able to raise his score by 240, but more importantly he gained confidence and learnt how to tackle difficult questions by breaking them down. We could not be more pleased with the tutoring and the results. My daughter had 10 hours of private tutoring with Emma Templeton to prepare for her second round of SAT testing (she had previously done only a little preparation on her own). She raised her math score from 530 to 630, her reading score from 680 to 720, and her writing score from 570 to 640. Emma was dedicated, upbeat, professional and very flexible with her scheduling. I was very pleased with my Applerouth tutoring. Brooke Rose was my tutor for the ACT and we tutored together for about a month and a half. She was a great teacher and I could tell she knew what she was doing when it came to the ACT. I really enjoyed her positivity and I really appreciated her making sure I did well on my ACT.
