I met her in my early 20s when I was in undergrad, suffering from trauma stemming from years of abuse. She wasn't even taking clients at the time, according to her voice messaging system, but she called me back and took me on. From then on, I found the best advocate one could hope for in a therapist. I eventually moved away and we discontinued working together. Then, I was having a rough patch and didn't have insurance, but we worked something out. She worked with me through this difficulty until I transitioned to grad school. We didn't talk for a few years. Fast forward three more years (six total, since I'd last worked with her) I'm back in California and in need of a great therapist. Now I'd seen many therapists during the six year gap since we'd worked together. I saw 5 others upon moving back to California, prior to working with her again. I came back to Dr. Williams after so many years because she's genuinely the best therapist I've ever had. She's supportive, smart as heck, perceptive, nuanced...and just amazing. On a more personal note unknowingly until I asked him about it he is a New York Times bestselling author. His book it called Sway. He wrote it with his brother, it's about Irrational behavior and is a very good read about why we do things that would be considered irrational, and "will change the way you think about the way you think."
