Blink and you'll nearly miss a sign covered by shrubbery to turn into the Applewood Winery. Once you get that far, the dirt road will be bumpy and depending on recent weather, muddy. But the ride down the long stretch of dirt road is worth near jaw dislocation. Applewood Winery is part of the union of the Hudson Valley wineries, but what really makes them stand out is their Naked Flock cider. Stop in for a tasting and definitely try this high percentage cider and get told the silly little tale that explains the graphic design on the bottle as a goose wearing a wine barrel. The Naked Flock is has a 6.8% alcoholic volume, which is much higher than normal ciders (and even some liquors). It is fermented with Champagne yeast and local honey. The original was my favorite but all 3 flavors are worthy to drink. And it's also naturally gluten-free for all those who long for a great cider without ruining their health. The other drink that wowed us completely was the blackberry wine/liquor. Our sommelier let us know that is also tastes great as a mixer with Pinnacle Whipped Vodka, which is one of my favorites. This is definitely a great little winery with lots of great flavor to offer, they also host festivals with the other Hudson Valley wine trail wineries and you can easily google that! By the way, for any Lord of the Rings fans, their logo reminds me a lot of the white tree of Gondor! read more

Apple Dave's Orchard is wonderful. Applewood Winery has thieves working for them. Fraudulently charged my credit card twice for wine that was not received from their "Wino Club". Called them in August to resolve and they claimed it was taken care of. Just saw another charge now in December so clearly it was not resolved back in August. They refuse to refund the $110 they owe me for wine they charged me before but did not ship, blaming the issue on ups. They refuse to take any responsibility for their not shipping the items to me. STAY AWAY, STAY FAR AWAY! I am sure I am not the only person this has happened to based on their response! Brotherhood Winery in Warwick would be a far better choice. They have honest and decent people working there. read more

We went to visit this winery yesterday.. They had a huge selection to choose from. I liked how the sheet they have it on is color coordinated. I am preferable a sweet drinker when it comes to wine ; i also prefet cider. The road to get to this place. Was very bumpy and had lots of pot holes do drive carefully when you come up to it. Of everything i tried i enjoyed the original hard cider its the only cider that is 6.8% alcohol. I also enjoyed the blackberry dessert wine which is pure pressed blackberries almost syrup sweetness The seyval chardonnay was also my favorite.... Out of the whole list you pay $6 and get to try 5. Now i went with my sister and cousin and between the 3 of us we were sharing and tried sips of some others that the other person picked... The inside of the tasting room was cute had other items for purchase jams, sauces, tshirts etc... I loved the label of the ostrich on the cider bottle and enjoyed hearing the story how it became known as the original naked flock cider...At least i was told the shorter version supposedly the owner knows the full story but they were not there to tell it. The person who did out tasting showed us that you can mix original naked flock cider and blackberry dessert wine to make a martini with vodka. I will definitely have to try this! She made a small sample of it and it came out delicous..!!! They also offer a wine of the month club. Which has some nice perks. Will definitely return when i am up in the area! read more

Made a short visit to Applewood Winery on Saturday afternoon. Ordered two Tastings to try a selection of ten wines and ciders. Quality Applewood Winery simply was not very good. I have no doubt that my experience is much different from those who came through during apple picking season, but with the lack of care and enthusiasm, I believe they would have been better off just closing for the season. We entered and decided to start with two Tastings and then planned to have a glass each after. The girl behind the bar begrudgingly put together absurd flight towers, which were awkward and impractical. They each contained five drinks including, Seyval/Chardonnay Reserve, Riesling, Summer Fields, Pink Moscato, Original Hard Cider, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Ruby's Kiss, and Blackberry. The best of the bunch was probably the Cabernet Franc, but it was not worthy of a full glass. And watching the other customers quickly disappear from around us, we decided to follow suit after quickly finishing our samples. Quantity The wine pours in the Tasting were very small. The ciders we tried were okay, but I barely got a sip of the wines. Definitely not the way to convince someone it is a drink they want a full glass of. Value The Wine Tasting came with five samples for $6. While close to the tasting prices elsewhere, it was the tiny pours that made it seem like a high price to pay. Ambiance Applewood Winery is located in New York's Hudson Valley region. Driving in you pass rows and rows of apple trees, which were bare for the winter. However, it is easy to imagine how gorgeous they would look with ripe and ready to be picked apples. The dirt row eventually brings you to several buildings at a fork. We stopped at the top and had to read the signs on the two buildings to figure out where to go. Activity had been confined to the larger garage style room for the day. Inside they had a bar on the right and a stage at the back. Multiple heating lamps were placed throughout to provide much needed heat, however this created areas too hot to enter as well as cold spots. We had our samples at one of several high-top tables and listened to a guitarist play some classics. The music was great, everything else not so much. Crowd The space being utilized was not very large, so even with just three other couples, it felt busy. From the pictures and the rows of trees, it was pretty clear this is a fall location, and it felt like they were just going through the motions for winter. Guests seemed quick to come and go, even with fun live music. Service Both ladies working behind the counter seemed disinterested and frankly upset that we asked for a tasting. After putting together our towers, they went back to their phones with not even a word about the drinks we just ordered. Parking A long and bumpy dirt road that leads past rows and rows of apple trees eventually splits off into two separate lots. Neither of which is arranged or explained well leading to cars parking all over the place. Extra The most positive part of our time at Applewood Winery was the live music. The service, the drinks, and the atmosphere are all things I could have skipped. It probably is a different experience during the other seasons, but if you are going to keep the doors open in winter, still make it a memorable time for guests. read more

I've always wanted to go apple picking/wine and beer tasting and I finally found the perfect spot for it! Applewood Winery has it all- from apple picking to wine and beer tasting, food, souvenir shops, and most importantly, it's in an amazing location. Only about a 1 hour and 20 minute drive from the Bronx, my friends and I arrived here at 1PM and were able to enjoy everything until we left at 5PM. We did the wine tasting first which was cool, except the room we were in was hot and the servings were really really small. I mean I get that it is in fact a tasting, but a bit more wine in my cup would've been just right, haha. I also checked in on here and got a free glass with the Applewood Winery logo on it (I love check-in deals!) I enjoyed the beer tasting a bit more simply because I love beer and we were sitting outside. The bartender was really nice and explained the beer options thoroughly. A few drinks later, I began to get hungry and saw that they serve pizza right next to where the beer tasting is- however, the server said it would be a 30 minute wait and I feel the pizzas were way too flat for a $12-$14 price range. Instead, I went with a small snack and got two apple cider donuts which were good. After my friends and I visited every "station", we went to the apple picking station and all purchased a bag for the apples which was 50 cents. If you fill the bag with apples, you have to pay $8 once you're done picking. If you don't fill the bag until the top, you will pay less than $8 (probably like $4-$6.) I love that there's a free tractor that picks everyone up at the apple picking station to take them inside the "forest" where all the apples are. You can even eat the apples while you're picking them and take great pictures, of course! The only thing I hated about my trip here was that it was sooooo hot- it felt like it was 90 degrees! Of course this is not their fault, lol but I will definitely be returning in mid-October when the fall breeze is intact. P.S. They only have porta-pottis (to my knowledge) so try not to have too much dairy beforehand. P.P.S. I only spent about $30 when I came here and I still did a lot- so don't worry about breaking your pockets when you visit! read more

We stopped in this winery on a Sunday afternoon because we were having lunch in the area. It's in a beautiful location in Warwick and overlooks a pond and nice beautiful scenery. There is seating outside and I imagine it being a pretty decent spot to hang out when it's warm outside. They have two buildings and only the smaller one was open during the winter season. I didn't get a chance to look at the larger one, but the girl working gave me the impression that it's to accommodate tastings for more people. We went with the tasting option which I believe is 5 tastings for $6. The girl working there was really friendly and recommended some. I liked how their tasting menu was split up: whites, ciders, and reds... then it was further split into dry, sweet, and very sweet categories. We tried the following: Vidal (dry white) Draft hard cider cranberry cider merlot international red We love red wines but the merlot here was way too dry, and the international red was way too sweet. She mentioned they normally have a cab that they were sold out of and didn't get to try. Honestly, I was not impressed with any of the wines. Out of all the ones we sampled we liked the naked flock draft hard cider the best and ordered two glasses of it. After a few sips it just got to be way too difficult to drink. I'm sure it's personal preference but it just had a cheap champagne taste to it. I give 5 stars for the service and views, but sadly 1-2 stars for the taste/flavors of the wines. read more

Growing up in Ca, we have wineries up and down the coast, I am partial to Temecula Valley myself, but, be as it may, when I moved here in 2013, naturally I wanted to try some east Coast wines, but unfortunately (and I find this pretty sad) it seems that most of the people I spoke to couldn't even come up with one vineyard that they could 100% recommend. How can that be? I mean I was even told to go to Canada, really? where is the loyalty? So it was up to Hubby who is NY born and raised to save his wife from wine withdrawals-- he suggest we head out to Warwick, Applewood Winery to be exact. First the drive up is beautiful and when we arrived it was crisp, cool and stunning the Vineyard had a special even going on and the barn was full to the brim with happy wine and cider drinkers-- (back to the cider in a few), I loved the small gift area and the bar was stretched the whole length. Mini-Me is obviously under 21 and although has been to many wine tasting events locally in CA without tasting, she has happily sat at the table with us or spent loads of money in the gift shops. But in NY she is not even able to be at the bar when we are going through the list, so get familiar with the laws if you have minors. The Wines we really liked and bought quite a few of-were the reds Merlot, blackberry, Cab Franc and thee Riesling and the Pink Moscato. If you have not had the Naked Flock Cider, then be sure to try some, I was truly surprised how tasty and refreshing it was and we happily picked up a few bottles. I wholeheartedly recommend Applewood Winery for a sweet day trip to enjoy a some great wines, wonderful staff that take pride and enjoy what they do 100%. I might add they do get crazy packed on events, but if you get there early and grab a table your all good. read more

Long lines to their bar, porta potties, and food areas, but overall a fun place to come and listen to live music and have delicious drinks. Really enjoyed their homemade craft hard ciders and their frozen drinks. Avoid wearing flats - the parking area has a lot of rocks and dust kicking up as well as long grass. read more

The woman working today, 8/30/20 was very rude. I see two other reviews from this month also mentioned a rude woman, i bet it's the same one. We got a wine tasting flight, it was fine. The pizza was mediocre but I needed lunch for my kids. We were next door, enjoying the hospitality and beautiful scenery at apple dave's and decided to check out this winery. I stood there for a while, 2 staff members clearly seeking me but ignoring me. I thought the one woman was giving me stink eye. She ignored me until I took my 18mo old out of the baby carrier and she immediately barked at me "he can't walk around in here!" his feet had barely touched the ground. If that's the policy, fine, but there is no reason to be so rude. As soon as the pizzas were done, we took our wine and got out of there. read more

Came here over the weekend after picking apples at Maskers Orchard a couple of minutes away. We were pretty excited to check this place out as they make a lot of different ciders and wines that really sparked our interest. We did a wine tasting for $6 a person and you choose 5 wines/ciders to try. My girlfriend and tried 10 different wines by sharing and were able to try some really good wines. I ended up buying a bottle of my two favorite wines (Wagamaya White and the Blackberry) as well as a bottle of the Pumpkin cider. After the tasting, we went down to the bar area where they do cider flights (4 for $9) and have growlers for sale. The best ciders were the pumpkin cider, Rose cider, and the original cider. We also ended up purchasing a 64 oz Growler filled with their cherry mead which was awesome. This place is a nice little place that offers great fall activities. Very happy we came and will definitely be back in the future! read more

Came here with a few friends for my birthday! I loved every moment. This winery wasn't overly crowded, but had plenty of dogs to play with. The grounds were beautiful and clean. The day we went, there was a cider festival going on, so we had many many options to choose from. I did not try any of the food from the food trucks, but it all smelled very good. They have plenty of board games to choose from, if you're looking to just sip some wine/cider and sit in the sun with good friends. I intend to come back to try the slushies they have! read more

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday afternoon after going hiking at Harriman State Park. It wasn't super busy when we arrived at 12:30. They have a cute fall set-up, pumpkins and scarecrows everywhere! A lot of parking available as well. We went STRAIGHT to the food and wine tasting tent. They have BBQ type foods available. Pulled pork, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, potato salad and coleslaw. We both had the BBQ pulled pork and it was deliciousssss! They have a cute wine tasting tent set up next to the food tent- it's a bit small for the number of people that come in, and the lines can get pretty long... But at the time we went there wasn't a line. $6 for 5 tastings. I really liked the wawayanda white and the hard apple cider. My favorites. We hopped on the tractor and went for a ride in the vineyards for the apple picking. They have a ton of trees and plenty of apples to pick. $20 for a large bag of apples. The views are gorgeous and they have a small farm with beautiful sheep and roosters overlooking the lake and mountains. Beautiful! They also have a nice outdoor sitting area with a live band on the weekends. The line was way too long to get cider donuts tho :/ Around 2 o'clock it got super busy, I'm glad we came earlier. Simply just said, if you're not purchasing anything you can't stroll the area due to covid. So I went to the register and then she said if you want to stay you order at the table. I LOVE this winery. The quality of the wine is very good and they have lots of softens kinds to taste and choose form. Prices are also great. They also have Naked Flock cider (which is my fave) and all different flavors to choose from. I recommend the lemon ginger- very good! They also have some local beer options. It's cool because you have so much choice as far as what you want to drink. The place it's self is so cute in a brown barn and they almost always have a life band or singer. Went apple picking for the first time ever just a few weeks ago. Headed up to the Apple wood winery and to be honest I wasn't expecting much but when I got out of my car I was pleasantly surprised to see not just a massive orchard but a winery and food court and brick oven pizza. And a bar!! I sampled the mead of the day. Honey wine with cherries I believe. It was delicious. We walked the grounds and sampled there cider donuts and pulled pork sandwiches (both equally delicious.) We then walked in there shops and just enjoyed the beautiful weather. Finally we grabbed a bag and hopped on a hayride for the real reason of the trip. In the medium bag I fit well over 15 apples. Honey crisp were what we picked. It was a very fun experience. My girlfriend, father and myself had such a lovely day. I would recommend this place highly and will make it a yearly visit. read more

Loved the atmosphere at Applewood. They were extremely crowded when we visited with several large groups, including some without reservations. Staff was friendly and did their best to meet the guests needs. I had the dry flight and found several wines I enjoyed enough to purchase. Hubby had the red flight and he too enjoyed his tasting. We had some empanadas and the charcuterie board. Both were very good. If you want to enjoy some good live music, tasty food and drinks while enjoying the beautiful property without a lot of fuss, this is the place for us. read more

After a long dirt road trek, we pulled up to the rustic barn, with ample parking. The pond, the scenery, it all created this a warm winery happy feeling. The inside had a newer modern tasting area, with delightful decor-really representing their brand. We checked in with our passports (normally 5 wines for $6), and were happy to be able to select the wines we'd like taste. Even happier our pourer was nice about suggesting we each pick 5 different ones and share (which some wineries aren't thrilled about). We tried: -Chardonnay-They offer Oaked: which has a buttery nose, with a stronger finish, staying smooth, with a hint of vanilla character giving it character. Better than their Unoaked Chardonnay-which felt too light, almost over chilled, as if the oak barrels had all of the character -Wayawanda White-I loved the fruitiness on the nose, and first taste, that settles with a dry finish (we bought a bottle!) -Vidal-Too watery-Sort of tasted like you poured wine into a wet tupperware in your sink-weird water takes over, losing the wine taste -Summer Fields-Surprisingly delicious white (I'm a dry red drinker-so a sweet white impressing is always fun)-The melony taste is exactly what we needed for this summer -Traminette-Wonderful floral notes on the note and through the finish, not overly sweet-no intense honey, but just a floral nod to lemon and honey -Riesling-The dry finish was great compared to some overly sweet tasting Rieslings -International Red-Dryer finish, but needs time to let the Pinot come out and the Noir settle -Merlot-Tasted a bit like vinegar it was too light, the only one I didn't enjoy -Cab Franc-Too light for my taste, as if bottled too soon Overall the Whites were impressive, while the Reds need time to mature, get their boldness, and find their unique flavors. Their whites were worth the trip. The range from dry to sweeter offered so many options for the palate. It was hard to decide which to buy! I give them 5 stars for the Whites alone. Our pourers were super friendly-sparked discussions with the crowd at the winery-and provided insights into the blending of the wine. read more

First wine tasting location of the season for my wife & I... Glad it was here! We decided to drive up just because and this was a great find. So, wine tasting is $6/person..Once you get past that, easy sailing. We are bold red lovers and our expectation of wines in the east is really low. We have to admit that the east mostly cultivates fruit based sweets & some reasonable whites, not reds. Anyhow, Applewood has pallitable (sp?) Reds, very great Whites & superb ciders. The tasting room attendant was great... Friendly, knowledgeable & welcoming. The wawayanda white is an awesome drink for any wine drinker especially on a hot summer day.. It's fruit forward & has floral notes. The Oak Barrel Reserve is superb. Smokey, aged & great for a camp fire setting with stew or a good slab of meat. Great time all around. read more

I wish I could give no stars. Went here for fineries at the wineries. First, VERY disorganized. We went into the large gathering area.. NO sign stating you had to "check in" to sit at a table only a small one on the door and no one inside to do so., only a sign that says "No bar service sit at a table" which we did. As we were ordering another gentleman came and said we did not check in and he had a reservation for that table. The server taking our order never said anything either. After 20 minutes we were thrown out. I went back to speak to the owner and he said he didn't have time to talk with me and there was a sign (there.wasn't). We had planned on spending over $100 here on food and merchandise but we immediately left to never return and we will tell everyone else not to go there also. You will see the owner's response. It did not address no staff available or responsive to us. We sat at an empty table for 20 minutes before we were abruptly told to leave with no option mentioned. If we were advised of an option it would have been a much better experience. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My husband and I and our 10 month old came here on an early Sunday afternoon. The place was completely empty and we spread out away from the tables on a blanket so we could all sit and enjoy the experience. I was shocked and totally disappointed when a staff member came and told us that we couldn't have a blanket in the grass.... Until NEXT WEEKEND. This was completely empty and we were away from everything. When we asked if there was an area that we could go we were told no, despite this being a large area with no other people around. This was so disappointing as this is supposed to be a family friendly place. Additionally, it made no sense why this would be allowed the next weekend but not this. Terrible experience- no one with a family should go here. read more
