‼‼ My boyfriend is a disabled Veteran & being stuck in the house due to COVID - 19 has been hard. I talked him into ordering himself a kayak so he could practice his social distancing but also so he could get out of the house and get fresh air. I thought it would be good for his mental and physical health. He ordered the kayak and as the delivery truck pulled up in front of the house we were both really excited.Unfortunately once we got it into the garage and once the packaging was removed for inspection by the delivery driver, we couldn't help but notice the horrific paint job. If you can even call it that... Of this brand new $ 800 boat. Understandably disappointed, we contacted Appomattox River Company and that's when things went from bad to worse. The employee who answered the phone talked over us, interrupted us, and then passed the phone to a kayak rep who literally laughed at my boyfriend's frustration! I ordered a kayak 13 days ago that was listed as in-stock. After six days I called to see if the kayak had shipped since I had no communication. I was told that due to unprecedented demand they were behind in shipping and it would ship the next week. On day nine I received an email saying all the same things I heard on the phone except now the kayak wasn't going to ship for two weeks. The good news is that it probably wouldn't have taken the additional two weeks because on day 13 they went to package my kayak. The bad news is they didn't actually have it in stock. Hey these things happen. But when they do there is usually some sort of customer service provided; maybe assistance in selecting an alternative or providing a date on the next order, etc. This is the my second "kayak that you already paid for is not in stock" issue I've had since Covid. The last issue was with another company who figured out the inventory issue the same day, was super apologetic, and found another boat within a week. These guys? Nope. So could have been one star but I'll give them two. Nobody was a jerk to me and it appears that the refund has been issued on their end. read more

Had a terrific experience purchasing a Pyranha Fusion CS4 from these guys last month. After doing all my research, I purchased the kayak off there website. A few days later I received a very remorseful phone call in which I was explained that the kayak I had bought turned out to be a previously demoed boat, lightly used but had definitely been on the water once or twice. I was told that they were scheduling the delivery the kayak that day, and that they would also have a brand new, similar boat (the Pyranha Fusion River Tour setup) on the truck for me to chose from if I preferred, or to forgo the purchase and be refunded. They were sympathetic and apologetic over the phone, and mentioned I would receive a partial refund if I did decide to go with my original purchase, the demoed boat. The truck driver was very sincere and again apologetic for the situation, conveying how bad his supervisor felt when they realized the situation back at the shop. It was also shipped to me at no cost. I decided on the kayak I had originally purchased, it had some light wear and a little sand in the cockpit, but nothing I wouldn't have subjected it to within the first couple paddles. It came with new foam for outfitting. Upon getting it setup for my liking, I realized one of the screw heads for adjusting the thigh grips was sort of stripped, and once I got a good grip on it, it still wouldn't budge (cross threaded) so I had to drill it out. I contacted Appomattox and spoke with the same guy who had let me know the situation of the demoed kayak in the first place, and within a few days received the screw and backing plate I needed. Overall I had a bit more of a procedure in purchasing my new boat, but they did a very good job at keeping me informed and pleased along the way, and being compensated some $$$ for receiving a demo boat was kind of a nice surprise as well. I would totally recommend these guys for anyone looking to get paddling gear. My buddy ordered a kayak from them a week after me and is also very happy with is purchase, though he didn't get the same deal I did! read more

We purchased our Jackson Big Tuna tandem kayak from Appomattox River Company back in the Spring of 2015. We use this kayak about everyday, mainly fishing. We absolutely LOVE it. We noticed a flaw (hole) beginning in the hull behind the back seat. We contacted Appomattox River Company (or Paddle VA as we are used to calling it) and they worked with us from beginning to end. Jackson Kayak working with PaddleVA and we were contacted for instructions on getting our new replacement kayak. We just picked it up. Satisfied is an understatement. We couldn't be more pleased with the customer service we received. We will DEFINITELY use Appomattox River Company for all of our kayak needs. A great company to do business with. Purchased a used kayak at a very fair price. The kayak was in very good condition; they sent photos to allow me to confirm that. They arranged delivery to arrive when I would be able to receive it. It arrived in great shape; the truck driver said he had never seen a kayak wrapped and packaged as well as this one.
