We dined at Apron for Christmas and had the tasting menu which featured Christmas goose. I found the courses to be individually interesting and sometime visually stunning, but not particularly cohesive.
For example the bread course came with balls of butter served in a caviar tin, hummus, and some small bites served on a flaming grill table side. Interesting, but the hummus didn't go with anything, and the flaming grill didn't serve any purpose Alice it didn't really warm anything.
One of the seafood courses featured a lobster tail. Again visually beautiful, but when you ate the lobster, it had a very mushy texture reminiscent of frozen and defrosted seafood, which it may not have been, but the way it was cooked resulted in an odd texture. The main event being the Christmas goose was nothing to be excited about in my opinion. I found it a bit tough.
The service was overall good. The servers warmed up a bit once we engaged them a bit more regarding the wine pairings.
The food was good, but I was expecting much better considering its status as a Michelin star restaurant. Also considering the price point being the same as another higher rated Michelin star restaurant in Vienna, it was hard not to compare, and Apron fell short for me. read more
