Some incredible bites, some good ones, really no bad ones. Some especially memorable bites: The first amuse bouche was an explosion of flavor and was such an impressive start. It instantly set the mood and brought excitement for the rest of the meal. The rest were enjoyable too. The bread cart had so many options, and we tried most of them by the end of the meal. The most surprising was one with blood sausage. I normally don't enjoy the ingredient but here it added the perfect amount of savory and meat-y flavor. The white asparagus was by far the most delicious asparagus I've ever had. And the broth was so light but flavorful. This might be my favorite bite of the meal- and I normally would choose a meat dish as a favorite. It was that good. While the goat meat itself was perfectly tender, we did wish the portion was a bit larger. It felt like one bite and it was gone. The pastry part of the goat dish was the best. Light, flakey, not overly oily - maybe my favorite pastry ever. I wanted 2 more of these! Overall this was an amazing meal. Highly recommend!

Everything about this place is amazing. From the modern exterior and interior, the amazing food and personal touch, to how amazing the overall service was! We had a great time dining here while we were in Vienna. It was such a memorable experience. This restaurant is located in a park, adding to its charming mystique. You have the option to pick their tasting menu or al la carte menu. The tasting menu rotates according to seasonal speciality while the a la carte options is a mix of new dishes but also some of their signature classic dishes. The dish that went viral was the char cooked in beeswax! The concept is so unique and I love the overall presentation of each course. Every dish comes with a paper description so you can review the ingredients of what you're putting into your mouth. We went with al la carte and ordered 2 appetizer dishes and 2 main courses as well as one desserts and 2 glasses of wine. Even with a la carte they will bring out amuse bouches and petite fours as part of the experience. We were so stuffed by the end! The one fun dish that is quite memorable was the poppyseed noodle desserts & plum ice cream recommended by our waiter. The concept is so foreign to me I was definitely blown away by the execution! It was also one of the best bite of plum ice cream I've ever had. The closest resemblance I can think of is like eating mochi with black sesame? You'll see some reviews talking about the extra charges they add on to your bill. If you want to pay for just the food then just be aware of these optional services they offer during your dining experience. While service charge is not optional all the rest are optional: - extra service charge of $9/person - extra charge if you say yes to bread cart - extra charge for alcohol cart - extra charge for cheese cart (part of the desserts option) - extra charge for water Remember to tip them at the end! Our tip wasn't added automatically. We came here to celebrate our month anniversary and they added a nice personal touch and a celebratory tart dessert with candles. They allocate each table for one party per night so you won't feel rushed at all. Overall had such an amazing time and would recommend anyone to visit!

As much as I would like to rate my first Michelin star restaurant experience a 10 out of 10 and 5 Yelp star's, I just cannot do that. My friend and I have been working off the "The World's 50 Best Restaurants" list, and Steirereck in 2024 is rated as #22 and I guess we just had much higher expectations for the service. Understandably most of the clientele would be more wealthy, but I'm the type of person willing to splurge on food while on vacation, hence how we ended up here. Some of the charges on the bill were just outlandish (I guess rich people don't really care, but I'm an average person who likes to have nice experiences every once in awhile) but charging a place setting fee is wild. What am I supposed to do, eat off the table? Bread cart? Fee. Tea cart? Fee. You mean to tell me we spent 600€ on dinner and the bread wasn't included? Water? 17€ a bottle (and they actually charged us for two and we never got the second one, but felt like we would be judged if we asked them to take it off, so we didn't). The bread cart thing I'm assuming they want you to keep going throughout the meal, but I've been to quite a few tastings at this point, so I'm not going to fill up on bread. That being said, it actually really annoyed us that they left our bread plates on the table, especially after we moved them to the corner, where it was very obvious that we wanted them to be taken and they weren't. I know it's small, but for this type of dining experience, I really expect a plate to be taken without me having to ask about it, especially if I've pushed it all the way to the corner of the table, completely out of my reach. Now onto the things that we did enjoy (we enjoyed a lot for sure); - food was excellent and portions were nice for a multi-course tasting. - loved that they changed out the silverware for every course (I feel like this is standard, but this is also why I was annoyed about the bread plate thing). - before every course. a notecard was placed on a holder that explained the next course, and I loved being able to read about the dish as well as having the server explain it to us. - every course was beautiful visually Overall we had a nice time and the food was amazing but the seemingly annoying bread plate and kindof absurd charges on the bill definitely left a sour taste in our mouths.

There's not a way that my lowly review can do this restaurant justice. Go to Michelin's guide if you want that lol. Everything from the restaurant, staff, ambiance, bathrooms, and of course food and drinks were exquisite. The presentation of the food, attentiveness of staff, artfulness of food, flavor and overall experience stood out. There's a reason they have 3 Michelin stars and are No22. In the world.

There are several ways to lunch at Steirereck. Choose from the 4-7 course options or order a la carte! My rec is the 5 course - it's the most flexible & you can pick dishes to curate your own experience Whatever you decide, every meal (there's a cover charge fyi) starts with Andreas, or Brot-Andi, explaining all the loaves (I counted 23) he has for the day. They are baked fresh daily with more variety than you can consume. You have your classic variations of baguettes, sourdoughs (SO GOOD), and ciabatta followed by some seeded ones like poppyseed and honey oat. For something more exciting, try the blood sausage (pretty good), chorizo, or parmesan! For the first course, the signature beeswax char is a must! Fish is super delicate (almost too mild) with the char caviar adding a bit of brine. Unique texture that's both raw & cooked? Very special esp with the table side performance We also tried the kohlrabi "bacon." The name is misleading imo and it's a light, slightly sweet dish with thin refreshing layers of kohlrabi & peach. The second course is a delicate round and it best represents Steirereck. First the porcini mushrooms with summer squash!! I LOVE this Roasted spruce-glazed mushroom with steamed squash, fava beans, & sautéed veggies inside each nook covered by petals of lemon preserved squash. A dish that encapsulates summer The fried courgette flower is just as exciting, served on top of tomato lentils and smoked eel. It has the crunch & acidity, paired with a very savory protein. The third course is the best!! Grilled Amur carp is an absolute delight with this amazing crispy skin and perfectly seasoned flesh. The team rly knows how to style fish. It's delicious with the fermented radish velouté & its fatty richness is enhanced by the sour ground cherries and kohlrabi cubes. It's so full of depth yet remains light & delicate The lamb is the perfect red meat option. I'm so impressed by the quality of this meat - tastes like a very happy lamb. It was SO juicy and didn't have the gamey flavor, could honestly pass as steak. The cheese trolley, equally as epic as the bread trolley!! There's the layer that you SEE and a hidden compartment that you SMELL We don't rly know cheese so our server curated two plates of four different types. A variety of soft, hard, mild, and stinky, served with roasted pumpkin seeds & apricot jam! For dessert, highly recommend the heart cherries. Gorgeous rose marinated cherry slices on top of carmelized brioche with vanilla milk and poppy seed ice cream (served on ice)!! Kinda overwhelming with too much happening but each individual piece tasted amazing. Esp the brioche The strawberry dish is quite simple in contrast so doesn't have the extra sparkle - marinated fruit, green almond, lemon yogurt ice cream with a side of semolina dumplings and meringue. To end the 3-hour lunch, berry-themed petit fours! Blackberry mousse, beze with blueberry sorbet, pomegranate rose granita, frozen raspberries, white chocolate covered gooseberry ice cream, mirabella plum, and a beautiful heart cherry It's so on brand with summer and I applaud the perfectly tart & pink finale. A lot can be said about the experience beyond the food. They bring out little descriptive cards for every dish, adding a bit of cultural context. The extra effort to not only deliver good food but also share culture is much appreciated! Also love that their building, located in Statdpark, incorporates its surrounding greenery with its reflective mirror exterior. During the summer, the windows remain open to let in a warm breeze Very modern & refined without being pretentious! Service is similar in that it's structured yet warm, with staff adding personality to the script. We loved our time here & would love to go back! 5 Course Lunch €175* Cover Charge €9.50 Still Water €9.50

Yelp Review 2023 #265: Regarded as one of the world's best restaurants and boasting 2 Michelin stars, Steirereck is very intentional about modernizing their food but yet making them still recognizable. Located in a park, is this small mirror building reflecting the sky, clouds and the trees around it. I reserved my table a month before the World Cup so I can have a nice meal to finish my world tour around Christmas. My itinerary kept changing but changing my reservation was easy. The only time I could squeeze having a 2-hour meal in was during lunch. They open the door for you and to the left is a shelf full of alcohol. Then, the small dining area with only about 7 tables. Sophisticated, clean, and quiet. Since I don't drink, I got a Vitamin Cocktail (non-alcoholic beverage made with fresh fruits and herbs). They have prix fixe menus or you can order a la carte. I like sampling food to get an idea what a restaurant is really about so, I did the prix fixe. Started of course with the amuse bouche - the savory macaron was the most memorable one out of the three I got. Then, a gentleman with a cart full of different kinds of bread. The selection was quite impressive - I believe the cart has at least 14 kinds of bread. I only tried a couple because I have more food coming. The rest of my meal: Tiger Trout with Golden Beet, Berner Rose Apple & Nasturtium Piglet's Tail with Swiss Chard, Shiso & Black Currant Paprika Chicken with Butter Dumplings, Fennel & Wild Chervil Forest Perennial Rye Soufflé with Cornell Cherry, Dark Chocolate & Coffee Soufflé Austrian Christmas cookies They place a card on the table with details of each dish you get. I remember seeing schnitzel on the menu but I went with the Paprika Chicken instead. And then, I realized I may have COVID when I couldn't taste my food anymore. At least I got to enjoy the first few dishes prior to getting the Paprika Chicken and desserts. I can tell you with confidence that their bathroom is clean and quiet. I went several times every time I had the urge to cough. Despite finding out that I was sick, I enjoyed my meal and the amazing service. I do remember I was hoping it was the last dish because I was getting full. But more food kept coming.

"Top 50 restaurants of the world" - and Steirereck lives up to it! Excellent food, service, wine, and ambiance. It's located in a park in an artistic building that used to sell dairy - hence the milk jug statue. We went during lunch and I loved that you could pick not only the length of courses (4-7), but also the dishes in each course! Top all that off with a fantastic unlimited bread cart AND an intense cheese cart for dessert. Still drooling just thinking about it... Definitely save 4 hours of your time for this special experience in Vienna.

One of our all time favorites. Steirereck is a beautiful restaurant inside Stadtpark. Each course of the tasting menu had multiple components, and they printed description cards for each one that you can keep (English available). Even the petit four filled up our table. The bread, cheese, wine, and tea came around in carts, and they harvested, washed, and brewed the tea in front of us. At the end of the meal, you can also take home a magazine they publish about the restaurant. Make sure you budget adequate time though- this meal lasted 5 hours until midnight.

This is a 2 Michelin star restaurant and listed as #18 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants. Obviously the service and ambiance were superb. We came here for lunch, and the meal took around 3.5 hours. I got the 4 course meal for €135. The courses I chose were the char with beeswax, veal beuschel, kid goat shoulder, and the pine cone chocolate. They also gave small appetizers and mini desserts in the beginning and end of the meal. I only liked about half of them since many of these small bites were too tart/sour. For my courses, my fave was the kid goat shoulder since it was super tender. The char would be my second favorite, since it was super soft and fresh. It was cool how they showed how the char was cooked in beeswax. The pine cone chocolate would be better if it were more chocolatey. The sauce on the bottom was super tart. My least favorite was the veal beuschel. It was so salty that I couldn't finish it. The coolest part of the meal was the bread cart, since they have so many unique breads. The bread helps to fill you up so you won't go hungry Overall, the food didn't completely blow my mind (at least for the courses I got). The experience was still super fun especially since the dishes were unique and for the bread cart! I also liked how they give you a mini card with each course explaining all the ingredients.

Ranked on of the top 15 restaurants in the world I believe. Classy ambiance with finely choreographed services. The 7 course tasting menu was €210 plus €105 for wine pairing. Additional glass of champagne or sparkling wine for €28 to €49. Dinner for 4 ran us roughly €1500. The dinner took 5 hours. Most of the dishes were pretty impressive. The most impressive part of the dinner was the bread service. It came in a bread cart with more than 25 kinds of bread baked in-house daily. Their signature dish was a char cooked in hot beeswax. The beeswax was peeled away after it cooled. This method is similar to a confit. While to cooking method seems elaborate the flavor of the fish was good but not that impressive. It was an interesting dining experience if you are into that sort of things.

Having a few hours in Vienna to have lunch, I was fortunate enough to get a table at Steirerck. What a phenomal experience at this Michelin 2 star restaurant. As I would expect at this level, my expectations were far exceeded. The lunch offering is such a great value not only for the quality of the experience and food, but the staff were all so professional and helpful. The attention to detail was exceptional and year after year Steirereck continues to be awarded for the effort. The lunch was memorable to say the least. Whatever kind of breads you want... they have. Whatever kinds of cheese you want... they have. If you want Char cooked in beeswax, they can do that do. Quite innovative with flavors to match, there is no doubt I would return again when in Vienna. Thank you for a great and memorable memory!

When you brag about being one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, you need to bring your A game. I've eaten at many Michelin star restaurants, French Laundry in Yountville, L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Paris, La Pergola in Rome, to name just a few. To say I was disappointed in Steirereck, is an understatement. Normally I would go dish by dish, but I'm not going to bother. Basically the amuse-bouche were the tastiest things we ate all night. Course after course of bland forgettable food. The best things I can say about the sauce were when foamed, it provided a texture, but not much else. Sauce can really make a dish, and their saucier really let every dish down throughout the night. I go into a meal with an open mind and trusting of the chef, which is why I love tasting menus. You tell me what I should eat tonight. Don't let my preconceived notions cloud my judgement of what something is going to taste like, thus perhaps I miss something special on the menu. But this time, I didn't think flavors worked well together. Why were poppy seeds on a plain asparagus spear? And the foamy Apricot sauce wasn't sweet, nor the Lamb's Lettuce purée savory. Without any flavor from the sauces, I got an asparagus spear dipped in poppy seeds....And at the end of the savory courses we got a final lukewarm forgettable pigeon dish so feminine looking it would have made Georgia O'Keeffe blush. Then the restaurant itself was very hot, so this was a very uncomfortable meal and so so long and poorly paced. Pacing is important when fine dining. Too slow and you get full and uninterested in the next course. The bread cart actually came around twice between courses. I can actually tell you how long the meal took because my phone records the time I took each photo. 8:00 pm we sat down. 8:08 - bread cart 8:22 - amuse bouche 8:40 - 1st course....so far ok 9:14 - 2nd course...34 min? 9:30 - 3rd course 9:55 - 4th course....25 isn't great but wait for it... 10:41 - 5th course...46 minutes!!!!! 11:04 - 6th course 11:23 - final desserts brought with bill. I've had 20 course dinners in less time. That 46 minute wait really had us considering walking out, especially when the food wasn't that good, and the restaurant was uncomfortable. So was there anything good? Yes the bread cart was outstanding. Now I don't know if they normally come around so many times that you have to say no thank you. But we did get to try so many different breads. My favorite was the black pudding bread. Most at my table were scared off by it, but I was rewarded for my bravery. Now should Steirereck get so much credit for this bread cart? I'm not sure. They aren't baking this bread in house. They have relationships with all kinds of artesian bread makers around Vienna, who do all the work for them. And Steirereck gets the credit by nicely displaying it on a cart. So they are just a middle man. Although the bread sommelier, really knew his stuff and fun to talk to. Happy to discuss how each was produced, he was our entertainment for the long long evening. So in closing, Steirereck should be less concerned about making sure their World's 50 Best is etched in the glass door, and pay more attention to how their food tastes and how well their kitchen is run in order to have a properly paced meal. Because if they were at one point the king.... They are standing naked now, which might explain why they think they don't need to pay for air conditioning.

WOW. That's all I can say. We booked this restaurant two months before we arrived for our trip in Vienna. The location is beautiful and the food presentation was unbelievable. From the moment you step in, you are transported into a special place. The bread cart, the service, the presentation, everything was supreme. Well worth the visit.
What an experience! We've heard multiple good reviews of Steirereck, and had to try it out for our first trip to Vienna. It was relatively easy to make reservations ~1 month before, but no reservations were available the week of (I had looked into potentially updating the date due to some itinerary changes). We were able to get seated early (~30 mins!) as we had gotten to the park a bit earlier than expected. I really loved how we were able to get seated in an area that felt private to us. The food was delicious! And of course the BREAD CART OF MY DREAMS!! White asparagus is in season during this time of year so that was my favorite dish. We didn't try any wine or have any wine pairings. One thing to note, service was very attentive but we somehow felt like this didn't live up to a 3 Michelin star. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious but not as inventive or unique as other 3 michelin stars. I would still recommend coming to Steirereck, and lunch is a great value if you can swing it! read more
Steirereck was one of the meals I was most looking forward to on my Vienna trip, and it largely lived up to the hype. The standout dish was Alpine char with leek, caviar, bergamot, and an asparagus butter sauce. The fish was perfectly cooked: rich, buttery, and silky. What made the dish memorable, though, was the smoky caramelized leek. The meal showcased what Steirereck does exceptionally well: taking familiar ingredients and exploring them from every possible angle. Almost every course came with a small card explaining the ingredients and their history, and many dishes featured multiple preparations of the same vegetable or fruit. I opted for the non-alcoholic pairing, which was excellent and surprisingly creative. Highlights included a lightly sparkling fruit-and-herb blend paired with the char and an herbal juniper-lavender pairing with the lamb. The pairings felt carefully considered rather than an afterthought. Not every course landed for me. The lamb was well executed but pushed into flavor territory that wasn't entirely my style. The venison was beautifully plated and perfectly cooked, yet lacked the flavor impact of the earlier courses. The rhubarb dessert was visually stunning but far too tart for my palate, and even the vanilla components struggled to balance the acidity. One of the most memorable moments of the meal wasn't a plated course at all: it was the famous cheese trolley. The selection was enormous, and the staff thoughtfully guided me toward milder Austrian cheeses after I admitted I'm not much of a cheese person. I didn't fall in love with any of them, but I appreciated the opportunity to explore something outside my comfort zone. Steirereck isn't trying to overwhelm diners with luxury ingredients or theatrical presentations. The food is thoughtful, precise, ingredient-driven, and deeply Austrian. Even when a dish wasn't my favorite, I could still appreciate the craftsmanship behind it. Overall: an excellent meal with one truly unforgettable dish. 4.5/5 read more
Had the chance to try Steirereck for a lunch à la carte, and it was definitely a memorable experience. The restaurant is located inside a park, which made for a really nice start to the meal--my girlfriend and I walked around a bit beforehand, and it set a calm, scenic tone before heading in. We ordered a few of their well-known dishes, including the arctic char, caviar with lentils, char with beeswax, and sturgeon. Everything was very thoughtfully presented, and you could tell there was a lot of technique and intention behind each dish. One of the most unique parts of the experience was the bread cart--I've honestly never seen that many bread options in one place. I asked the bread sommelier for his personal favorite, but he said that he hadn't eaten bread in a long time ? Still, he gave great explanations of each option. Interestingly, we were told not to take photos of the bread cart because they don't want guests seeing breads online that may not be available when they visit. It felt a bit unusual, especially for a 3-star Michelin restaurant, but I respected it. I tried three different breads and each one was distinct and memorable. As for the food itself, the flavors leaned more delicate and subtle--definitely different from the bold, stronger flavors I usually gravitate toward. It wasn't entirely my personal preference, but I could still appreciate the craftsmanship. One thing I did notice was that some dishes, like the sturgeon and arctic char, came with two pieces even though we only ordered one of each. Not sure if it was because they noticed we were sharing, but it was a really thoughtful and generous touch. Toward the end, we were showered with desserts and finishing bites, which made the experience feel even more special. The oranges at the end were particularly interesting and a great closing note. We were also given a magazine to take home, which was a nice keepsake. Overall, while the flavors didn't fully align with my personal taste,, but the service, atmosphere, and overall experience absolutely stood out. A unique experience nonetheless. read more

But more food kept coming. read more

Definitely save 4 hours of your time for this special experience in Vienna. read more

Make sure you budget adequate time though- this meal lasted 5 hours until midnight. read more

I really wanted to like this restaurant, but sadly every bite in our four-course lunch was, at best, acceptable and, for about half the items presented, unpleasant and imbalanced flavor-wised. Starting from an amuse-bouche of bitter unripe grapefruit slivers in a tartlet, things just got worse and worse, culminating in my friend's dessert of a giant hunk of undercooked, stringy, unseasoned squash. Every dish was the exact same temperature of lukewarm, no matter if it was a salad or a broth. The best part was undoubtedly the bread cart and the pear-based dessert, which were genuinely delicious but not enough to salvage the rest of the meal. The staff was very professional and friendly, and they took great care of our party. They were the main reason we finished most of the food - out of politeness, because they were being so sweet and working so hard. However, the fussy and drawn-out style of service only reinforced how unenjoyable the actual food was. The meal ended with a complimentary array of sweets and cookies. What a nice touch! But as they brought over the treats, 2.5 hours after we had taken our seats, our faces fell and shoulders slumped, dismayed that it was not time to leave yet. read more

I also liked how they give you a mini card with each course explaining all the ingredients. read more
Ranked on of the top 15 restaurants in the world I believe. It was an interesting dining experience if you are into that sort of things. read more

A shockingly bad experience that I would not have expected at any fine dining restaurant, let alone one with 3 Michelin stars. My wife and I came here looking for a grand conclusion to our trip to Vienna and were sorely disappointed. The food was mediocre and bland - only the amuse bouche, breads, and mignardises stood out. The cheese selection was good as well. The rest was completely forgettable. The service was absolutely amateurish. The entire dinner was a comedy of errors - I'll only mention the lowlights for brevity. As soon as we were seated, we were surprised to find that there was no air conditioning in our section - it was a hot day and evening, about 85/29 degrees when we arrived. We try to keep an open mind and understand that the usage of AC is more limited in Europe, but after 30 minutes, I had to dash off to the bathroom and take off my undershirt in an effort to cool down - not something I should need to do at a restaurant of this level. However, we laughed it off, as long as the rest of the experience is good, we'll roll with it. With no AC, the restaurant has the floor to ceiling windows open around the room, including right next to our table. The restaurant is in a park - what this means on a warm day like this is a constant stream of insects. There was almost no point in our meal that at least one bug wasn't on our table. Multiple ended up in our butter, I had to scoop them out - we made no stink about that. At the presentation of our second course, a bug landed on my food - the server had to stop the explanation abruptly and take the dish back to be remade (while leaving my wife's dish on the table, screwing up the timing for that course.) The situation peaked with the arrival of a massive wasp hovering at the ceiling. Imagine trying to enjoy your dainty sunflower course while constantly looking over your shoulder to see whether you're about to get stung. The staff did not attempt to do anything about the situation, and acted like the wasp wasn't even there despite multiple tables reacting to it. I had to let a server know. He dealt with it by bringing out a rolled up newspaper and attempting to swat it, causing us to have to get up from our table multiple times and stand awkwardly at the side of the dining room. After a few failed attempts, we sat back down, only to have another swatting attempt happen a minute later. This time he successfully knocked it down onto our table. We bolted again, as the wasp was still alive and angry now. At no point did anyone come over to apologize or offer us anything, we were ignored by all the passing staff. The wasp was finally caught and removed, and the head waiter pointed us to our table, with our half eaten food, as if to say "voila! you can resume eating" The whole thing felt absurd. They seemed completely unprepared for this situation despite the fact that they had their windows open on a warm day, with bright lights on. At this point I asked to be moved to a different table, which they grudgingly did. There was no word of acknowledgement of the incident, they simply carried on service like nothing had happened. At just about any other low to mid level restaurant, a manager or head waiter would have at least given a word of apology, a comp round of wines, anything at all to try to salvage the experience - this is basic hospitality, but this 3-star restaurant could not be bothered. I explained to a server that we were not happy about this, and he simply said "I'm so sorry" and hurried off. The service continued to be lackluster. My knife was dull and could not cut through the rib meat course. I asked a server for one with a serrated edge and she was confused by the request and told me that all their knives are the same, which was news to my wife, who was holding a serrated edge knife at the moment. We pointed this out, and the server inexplicably exchanged both of our knives for a pair of somewhat less dull but still not serrated knives. The time between the courses began to get longer as the staff started to avoid us (while fawning over the table next to us which was extremely complimentary to them and their service.) The 7 courses took nearly 4 hours - our reservation was at 8:30 and we left well after midnight. At the very end, they brought us an extra (lackluster) dessert by way of apology, and I can't help but wonder why they would wait until the very end, instead of doing something to salvage the experience for us somehow at the outset. Outings to restaurants of this level and this cost should feel like they are special. You shouldn't have to sit for hours feeling like you've thrown away your €650 only to get a cursory acknowledgement at the end. We walked away feeling generally upset about the whole thing. Do not spend your money here. Vienna is a city with so many fantastic places to eat; this isn't one of them. read more
Having a few hours in Vienna to have lunch, I was fortunate enough to get a table at Steirerck. Thank you for a great and memorable memory! read more
When you brag about being one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, you need to bring your A game. They are standing naked now, which might explain why they think they don't need to pay for air conditioning. read more
WOW. That's all I can say. We booked this restaurant two months before we arrived for our trip in Vienna. The location is beautiful and the food presentation was unbelievable. From the moment you step in, you are transported into a special place. The bread cart, the service, the presentation, everything was supreme. Well worth the visit. read more

A Pricy Clinic for Bland Food: The "Aquarium" Experience at Steirereck If you've ever dreamed of dining inside a futuristic dentist's waiting room in the heart of a park, Steirereck is the place for you. For everyone else--consider this a warning. The Atmosphere: The building looks impressive from the outside, but once you step in, it's a sterile laboratory. The glass walls and cold decor make you feel like a goldfish in a luxury tank, where the public outside watches you while you try to maintain total silence so as not to wake the robotic waiters. The Food (or lack thereof): The kitchen seems to operate on the principle of "minimum flavor, maximum pretension." The dishes are marketed as an ode to natural ingredients, but in reality, the food is so bland you'll wonder if they forgot the salt or simply served you a biological sample from the nearby river. The "famous" fish dish arrived with a suspicious, slimy texture--somewhere between hair gel and something you'd find in a pharmacy--and the desserts felt like someone desperately trying to season a handful of grass. The Service: A true experience--if you enjoy being treated like a number on an assembly line. The staff carries themselves with typical Austrian coldness, reciting long, exhausting lectures about every single leaf on your plate, only to vanish exactly when you need more water or (heaven forbid) the bill. The "Highlight": The bread cart. This is the moment of clarity where you realize you've paid hundreds of Euros just to fill up on bread and butter, simply because it's the only thing that actually tastes like food. The Bottom Line: We left with an empty wallet, a stomach desperately searching for a pizza, and the nagging feeling that we'd just participated in a social experiment to see how much people are willing to pay to be bored in style. Do yourself a favor and head to the nearest sausage stand--at least the sausage has some character. read more
The food selection is unique and exotic but the presentation is amazing. If you enjoy high dining this is your place to experience. Elegant dining at its best with course after course of surprise offerings which are all tantalizing to your taste buds. The service is excellent form the bread sommelier , to the server who provides a written description of every dish on presentation cards to the wine sommelier with a perfect suggested offering for each dish. The decor is elegant and reservations are definitely required. An excellent dining experience in Vienna. Not inexpensive but definitely worth it. Enjoy read more
2 star michelin. and always on the top 50 best restaurants in the world. We had to make reservations at this place before going. And they'll take down your credit card, and if you don't show, they'll charge 150 a person. We could only secure a lunch spot, but it was still a lovely dining experience. We decided to get a 4 item prefixed meal, and we got to try a lot of different items split between 2 people. (for the 4 item course, you'll get to choose between dessert or cheese for your last course, if you want both, you'll need to pick the 5 item prefixed meal) To begin the meal, they'll provide some amuse bouche. It was 3 different small items. The most interesting thing was that they cooked a fish in bees wax right in front of you. Everything was cooked to perfection and the presentation was superb! They also give you a post card explaining what you're eating and the ingredients that go into making the dish. Just a heads up, on the receipt, they'll charge something for setting up the table. not entirely sure what that charge was for. PS: the bathroom downstairs were confusing. Letters D and H were outside each door, and i had no idea which one was the men's room. But later i found out D = Female and H = Males. just a FYI. read more

Steirereck...I wanted to love this place. We had looked *so* forward to it, but it was just...solid. Out of the 16 Michelin rated restaurants in Vienna, I had to narrow it down, so I used the Worlds 50 Best Restaurant list. Once we had our flight tickets, I made reservations; anticipation was a go! The best parts of the evening were the bread & cheese carts. The gentlemen serving from each were polite, engaging and informative. They were the highlights of the evening. Then there's the seven-course meal. I wanted to love it. Some dishes were better than others...it was a good, strong meal. Each course came with a menu card, providing a brief description. Plating was beautiful. Service was solid. But what threw me off was the bill *after* we left. We took a cursory look, paid, and left. We did not notice the charge €10 charge for Marille Wetter or the €20 for the 2016 BdNoir...and don't know what those were. Considering our total bill, with 14% tip was €600, it didn't seem worth the quibble. But it left a weird feeling. The measure of a good meal, for me, is whether we would return. I'm on the fence with this one. After you drop serious €, snag a difficult reservation and make a trek halfway across the world, you want to leave feeling satiated and content; I didn't. Of all the Michelin meals we've had (CA, IL, NY, Italy, France and now Austria), there are a few I would definitely return to and three are on a regular rotation. If you go, just don't go with any expectation and you might enjoy the meal. I think I ruined it for myself with so much anticipation of dining at one of the World's Best 50. read more

We have been wanting to go here for years and finally made it. Having dined in many Michelin starred restaurants around the world our expectations were high. I must admit it was a bit of a letdown when it comes to the food. The location, staff, wine list, bread and cheese trolleys are the best thing about this place. Loved the bread with black pudding and the Austrian cheese selection. The six courses in the menu were not at all memorable, which is quite unusual at this level of restaurant and nothing made me go "wow". My lamb was a bit chewy and my favourite was the fish courses. Dessert left me desiring for more sugar, which is highly unusual. Amazing ambience and experience. Staff were amazing but the food was missing the wow factor and despite having informed the restaurant of all the things my wife did not eat we had two courses where those instructions were ignored. As a vegetarian it's not at all worth the money here, the menu is pretty unimaginative and lacking the punch. I would come back here for the ambience, wine, bread and cheese but none of these are made by the restaurant themselves ;-) read more

Owned by the Reitbauer family Steirereck seeks to interpret Austria's cuisine in new ways, a location inside Vienna's Stadtpark at the same time urban and one with nature such that guests feel transported to the fields, gardens and streams from which their meal is created. Built in 1904 with a mirrored glass extension added later, and focused on native Ingredients less commonly offered in traditional restaurants, Steirereck's tasting menu taps into country's cuisine in novel ways while historic dishes find themselves benefitted by Michelin 2* skills during lunch in a sun-bathed dining room. Mainly light woods and crisp linens, several courses finished tableside or offered from rolling carts, it is after a Sparkling Wine toast that dining begins, the Bread Carte offering more than a dozen varieties including one impregnated by Blood Sausage while Canapes range from a delicate Beet Macaron and Jerusalem Artichoke Tart to the complexity of a chewy Carrot "pickled as Blueberries." Next offered fresh-cut Salad Greens from the Steirereck Garden plus velvety Leek Soup it is henceforth that each dish is presented with a detailed list of its contents, all happily explained by attentive yet affable service that even managed to appease a particularly 'difficult' diner at the adjacent table. Skipping the famous Char in Bee's Wax, late-winter's Tasting instead begun by the Fish cooked mi cuit around Almond-Blueberry Cream with textural variants surrounding, a more traditional Lunch started with Reitbauer's take on Viennese Wedding Soup featuring Lovage-infused Consommé, Veal Liver Dumplings and Spleen Toast. Arguably Austria's premier Restaurant, Chef Heinz Reitbauer's dedication to agricultural research prominently noted in each plate, course two of the tasting sees Golden Osetra Caviar juxtaposing tender Beluga Lentils atop the flavors of Banana and Mushrooms while a follow-up of uncommon Carp from Lake Attersee is served grilled amidst spicy Citrus. Led by Birgit Reitbauer up front, a recent winner of W50B's Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award, traditional dishes continue via Styrian Beef Gulash with Alpine Beef Cheeks, Spelt and Pickled Peppers while the tasting menu's Piglet´s Tail is hidden beneath Tempura Shiso and Swiss Chard with vibrant cooking Jus. Rounding out savories with classic Wiener Schnitzel and Sweetbreads, the latter served with an indigenous sweet Tuber called Yacon and nutty Aji Amarillo, the immense Cheese Carte was omitted in favor of saving space to enjoy previously unknown Service Berries atop Iced Cedar and the Forest Perennial Rye Souffle with a sidecar of Gin, Cornell Cherries and Dark Chocolate Ice Cream. Not forgetting Reitbauer's famous Potato Noodles with Poppyseed Butter and Crumble, nor the icy pedestal supporting Plum Ice Cream, Lunch concluded with myriad winter Citrus including Chocolates, Cookies, dried Peel and Gin Fizz Ice with Lemon Foam as a way of saying auf Wiedersehen. read more

Had the opportunity to go to to Steirereck for lunch a few years ago. It is located in the middle of a park in a beautiful, modern building. The restaurant is spacious, with tons of windows and lots of light. Service is excellent. I did the set tasting. Some highlights from that are the char with beeswax, morels, hemp seed souffle. The char was so amazing, perfectly cooked, tender. They actually bring it out encased in the beeswax before cooking it, which I thought was cool. I had a really great lunch at Steirereck. The ambiance was good, the service was great, and the meal was superb. Overall a really nice dining experience! read more

Michelin star restaurant, #10 in the list of the best 50's worldwide. Everything is true, the place is amazing in the middle of a beautiful park, so quiet, so intimate. The deco is modern and cool. The service was outstanding. And what do you expect to tell you about the food? No words to describe it. Each course was unique, exotic, flavors you have never tried before. They have a trolley with so many options of bread, the same with cheese, you want to try everything they have. They are in all the details. The smoked eel, the veal kidney, the beef goulash and so on. I won't describe each course because I would ruin you surprise (just take a glimpse at my pictures)! But I can tell you the experience of having been here, was absolutely mind blowing. Pre-COVID era dining experience here. We came as a group of four for dinner with reservations made a few months in advance. This location is hidden within a public greenspace park (Stadtpark) in its own gorgeous building with panoramic glass windows and curvilinear walls and wooden ceilings that look like a 3D-printed topographical map. The dining area itself is one large room with significantly brighter lighting than most upscale restaurants. The big highlight for us was the bread cart. This bread cart is absolutely massive - more like a rolling mechanic's toolbox - with probably two dozen types of artisanal bread. The bread sommelier Andreas told us that he procures the bread fresh daily from a variety of bakeries in Vienna plus a few secret vendors and a handful made in-house. We asked him what was his favorite bread was. His response, "Oh, I don't eat it anymore." We were dying laughing. For our meal, we went with ordering dishes a la carte instead of the tasting menu. I went with the beeswax cooked char, which is quite a sight to see prepared tableside. There were countless other fabulous dishes I tried. Instead of going through each one, I'll let you peruse the photo gallery. I love that Steirereck gives you a little informational card with each dish since they are complicated and a long-winded explanation of each would probably grow old. Leaving the restaurant, we even got a Steirereck magazine, which has dozen of recipes and makes for an epic coffee table book. Overall, this was one of if not the best dining experiences I've ever had in my life. Absolutely incredible. read more
Great experience as expected, on the cuisine, service, and food presentation. Love the concept with the carts, cheese cart, bread cart, dessert wine carts, herbal carts for tea, honey cart! My favorites are the beeswax char and the duck, not so much the gulash. Cons- Soufflé was a fail, I love Soufflé but it was so disappointing here, it's undercooked and still wet inside. There's a cover fee on top of the bill. A small pot of hot water was charged €6...... ??? On top of the still water bill. My friend is vegetarian.... not much choice here for vegetarians. read more

This is a more detailed review of my prior visit. Steirereck Restaurant, located in Stadtparkin Vienna Austria has been named the #9 restaurant in the world for 2013, and holds 2 Michelin Stars. Conveniently located across the street from the Intercontinental Hotel, and minutes away from the Ritz Carlton Vienna stands this culinary landmark, which has been in the Top 100 for the last several years. The ceiling of the restaurant looks like a more elegant version of the Bellagio lobby done by Dale Chihuly. Like most fine dining establishments, dinner is theater and the experience will likely last several hours. Service begins with a hot towel. Next comes some paper thin breadsticks. An amuse bouche of figs with candied lemon peel and basil started off the night. This dish was surprisingly not too sweet, being offset by the basil. A second amuse bouche was served, however I forgot to write down what it was. I don't recall this dish being spectacular in any way. Next, the bread cart arrived with nearly 20 different types of bread to choose from. With the vast variety there is something for everyone. The Mountain Trout with Melon, Cucumber and Etiolated Pea Shoots was a good way to start off the meal. The trout is firm and subtle in flavor, enhanced by the sweetness of the melon and pea shoots. The cucumber helped to add some floral notes to the dish. The Marinated Venison with Funnel Chanterelles, Wild Brokkoli and Black Walnuts is an absolute winner. The venison has just a hint of gaminess which is accentuated by the earthiness of the mushrooms and brown butter. The Barbecued Sturgeon with Kohlrabi, Quinoa and Elderberry was just an okay dish. The sturgeon was firm and meaty, but the sauce was a little too sweet for my taste. The dish just didn't seem to come together for my palate. The Cauliflower with Salted Plums, Romaine Lettuce and Veal Sweetbreads was another dish wasn't coherent. The sweetbreads were somewhat firm on the outside but tender in the middle. The cauliflower and lettuce added some earthy tones, while the plums added some acidity. The Mallard with Salsify, Red Cabbage and Chestnuts was another outstanding dish. Although wild, the mallard did not have a strong taste. The dish was a little overpowered in sweetness by the Isabella grape jus. The Apple with Amaranth, Pine Needle and Mushroom Herb was a very surprising dish. The apple was perfectly poached, tender yet still firm. The amaranth, which had the appearance of a piece of bark, was ice cold and refreshing. The contrast in temperature along with texture due to the apple tuile and amaranth crumble made this a light way to end the meal. No trip to Steirereck is complete without a trip to the bathroom to check-out their futuristic bathroom. The urinal looks like a space pod that begins to flush as soon as you step onto the floor mat. The sink, soap dispenser and trash can looks like a drum set from the future. The soap dispenser is in the upper left. Upon sticking your hand into the opening liquid soap will be dispensed. Placing your hands within the interior of the yellow sink sends jets of water from all directions to rinse your hands. The orange bongo drum is there for you to dispense your used towels. I am glad to have eaten at Steirereck, but not sure if I would come back. Service was superb at times, very lackluster at others. At one point, the employee working the bead cart was acting as busboy and server to some tables. There is a service charge to eat here which is not disclosed. Although it is only €6 per person, this is not disclosed anywhere and seems very out of place in a fine dining establishment. Food for the most part was very good to great, but some dishes really seemed to miss the mark. Many people have complained about the cost of the restaurant. At dinner, the 6 course tasting menu is €125, while the 7 course menu is €135 without the wine pairing, which I feel is very reasonable considering the cost of Vienna as a whole and that this is a 2 star Michelin restaurant. I do like the fact that they present you with descriptions of each dish before presenting them so you know what you are eating, or can reflect back at a later time. read more
Bread Carts, Buzzing Bees...A Bounteous Experience!! Love or hate it, I believe most would agree a dinner at Steirereck is an experience. To set the tone, if you are up for the tasting menu be prepared for an all evening experience. I believe we were there almost four hours. The restaurant is in the Stadt Park. We may have entered the wrong way but we went by some questionable individuals along the way, so you may want to think about a taxi/uber even if your hotel is nearby. We took a taxi home because it was dark and didn't want to go wandering around the park. As others state, this is a very modern looking restaurant and its architecture and space planning layout is interesting by itself. There is lots of privacy yet lots of open light the way our section of the restaurant is designed. We were noticeably only with other English speakers. We asked our waiter if all English speakers were purposefully seated together. The waiter blushed, giggled, and acknowledged this was true. People have different views of these extended, tasting menu meals. Are they too gimmicky? Do they detract form the food? We were split. I thought the production only added to the experience. We've been to lots of Michelin restaurants both in the USA and abroad, but the following are some of the unique aspects I noticed at Steirereck. Everything is wonderfully precise which I love. Each dining table has an accompanying side table that the wait staff constantly use. They use this little table to produce extra, needed utensils, napkins, and even a separate card for each course. For each course, the waiter props up a new card on the stand explaining the course, along with added background information. I loved this! I could read about the course as I enjoyed it. Also, we could reflect back on prior course as we proceeded through the meal. The server slips on a single white, cotton glove anytime they are doing anything at the table. While I've seen lots of places with cheese carts, I don't recall having a bread cart with a dozen choices where you the bread server carefully cuts off whatever type of bread you want and as often as you want. Also, I've never seen a honey cart. For the first dessert/ palate cleanser, you are served fresh honey from your choice of honey combs to accompany a sorbet and buckwheat dish. This really was the best tasting and best presented palate cleanser I ever recall having. You can hear the bees buzzing in the cart. We speculate this may be a recording, but it does offer an interesting effect whether there are real bees in the cart or not. I don't recall a bad course, and I honestly don't think you will go wrong with whatever you select. The food is very well orchestrated and is of extremely high quality. I asked the server to pick for me, but you have an option of picking one of two options for each course. I do think the seafood was exceptionally good and the desserts though. As I prefaced, this is definitely an experience that takes time. It was clear lots of time went into the production and service of such an elaborate meal. We each had the seven course tasting menu, two non-alcoholic appertifs, two bottles of water, and we split a wine pairing. The total price with gratuity was 527 Euros. Not cheap for sure, but we actualy found it a reasonable value for what we received and have paid more and received less satisfaction at other restaurants. Steirereck has two Michelin stars, and we believe it is well deserving of the honor. If you are up for a little adventure and have an entire evening, then Steirereck would be an excellent option read more

Our family of four had the pleasure of dining at Steirereck in Vienna, and it was an experience we won't soon forget. We wanted to see what a true Michelin-starred restaurant experience was all about, and Steirereck absolutely delivered. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was outstanding, elegant, comfortable, and sophisticated without feeling stuffy. The service was attentive and professional, and the entire evening had that special feeling you hope for when you choose a restaurant at this level. And then there was the food. Every course was beautifully presented and, more importantly, genuinely delicious. The flavors, presentation, and attention to detail made it clear how much thought goes into the experience. There were several dishes that really stood out and made us stop and appreciate just how good the food was. What I especially loved was that it felt like a special occasion without being pretentious. We were able to enjoy an incredible meal together as a family of four and actually relax and have fun throughout the evening. If you're visiting Vienna and looking for a high-end dining experience, I would absolutely recommend Steirereck. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, and a memorable night with the family. read more

We came to Steirereck expecting a world-class experience from a Michelin 3-star restaurant, but it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. One of the dishes we ordered -- the veal kidney -- was almost half raw, with a terrible smell and taste. When we mentioned it to the staff, instead of showing any concern or offering to replace the dish, a female server told us that "it's supposed to taste that way." Her tone was dismissive and condescending. As someone who also eats organ meats in my own culture, I can confidently say this was not about taste preferences -- it was simply undercooked and inedible. The fact that the staff tried to justify it rather than provide any basic hospitality was shocking, especially for a restaurant with such a reputation. The service throughout the meal was extremely poor -- cold, arrogant, and completely lacking the warmth or professionalism one would expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant. For the high prices they charge, this place is absolutely not worth visiting. I would strongly advise anyone considering coming here to think twice -- Steirereck does not deserve its three stars. read more
THE BEST, still. Took my wife and son to Steirereck a couple of days ago. They loved it too. I like it that my son is becoming a foodie and talks about his likes and dislikes (in this case, ALL LIKES). Bought a lot of jams to take home as gift for neighbors and friends. I wish one time i could go there only to have bread and cheese. As I had written in a previous review, there is an elderly gentleman who goes there each day. I would love to have an apartment in Vienna and do the same when I'm that age! THANK YOU for a great meal and good memories. read more

Fabulous food, exemplary staff and a relaxed atmosphere. 3 stunning appetisers then the 6 courses off the tasting menu with a selection of stunning wines. The sommelier's choices lifted the meal to a new level and is to be wholeheartedly recommended. Set aside an evening and a healthy wallet, you won't be disappointed. read more
