I didn't realize how significant Filipino history was in Watsonville until I learned about the Watsonville Riots in January 19 to 23, 1930 that represented racial violence and tension against Filipinos that ultimately California apologized to in 2011. You can learn a bit more about this in Wikipedia. Anyhow, according to the Facebook page for Filipino Community of Watsonville, they've been around since 1931, a year after the Watonsville Riots, so I'd be curious to know about the history of the organization, which I couldn't find online, unfortunately, and they do not have much of a digital presence. I can imagine that the Filipino Community of Watsonville served as a safe space and support for Filipinos. It's nice that you can rent out the hall for events and they have a kitchen and parking in the back. So I did attend an event on a weekend that used the facility. I think it could've easily been a house at some point with walls torn down to create a hall, but I don't really know. From what I read in their bulletin board, they have a number of community events and it's nice to know they are developing a youth program. They have a lot of people involved as board members, officers, and youth. I do not live in Watsonville currently, but I appreciate that this place existed in my youth and it was nice to say today.

It has changed owners over the years and has become more popular and busy. Groups come to pray, worship and get away from the distractions of life. This hidden gem continues to have lush landscape, tranquil water features and encouraging scripts all over the property. There a several areas to climb stairs and short trails to walk. Looking forward to our next visit.

This used to be a good organization but all of their good staff members have left or been layed off…read morerecently. That got rid of 90% of their staff for new people that are all inexperienced. They seem so disorganized now and have no sense of direction. The past ED, Catherine O'dea gave them direction and really helped the community. Most of the staff now is brand new with no relevant experience or knowledge of our community. Don't be surprised if they bankrupt soon. Their event schedule says everything about what they are doing these days. There is hardly anything on there besides clean ups. They need to be replaced by another non profit. They are giving Save our Shores around the world a bad name.

No one there is working for the money or glory of it- all are deeply committed to the marine environment and are working at below market pay to do so. CASA for Children of Santa Cruz County is a wonderful and very important nonprofit organization…read more They recruit, train and supervise advocates for children who have been abused, neglected or abandoned and who are taken out of their homes and put in the foster care system in the Santa Cruz County. You do have to pay to participate in the run but it is free to watch! It's a great organization and a great series of events. Morgan Hill is lucky to have this celebration!
