You could spend a week here without leaving campus and be perfectly happy, though its central location to both Lagos and Faro allows for day trips to visit the towns and partake in their outdoor experiences (kayaking, hiking, etc.). Rooms are large and clean, and restaurant options are myriad. There are so many things on offer, from high-end seafood and sushi to Indian cuisine. All are good, though none are truly great. Sunsets should be experienced from the Champaign Bar, overlooking the cliffs and sea below. Those looking for exercise will be impressed with the well-apportioned gym. Note that it seemed crowded throughout our 5-day resort stay. The resort also boasts plenty of leisure and athletic facilities. The 9-hole golf course is sufficiently challenging and includes a hole with a cliff-to-cliff canyon carry. Clubs and golf shoes (required) and available for rent. The driving range was somehow closed before our tee time because of its proximity to the soccer (football) fields and upcoming soccer (football) practice. These professional fields are prominently featured on the resort's website, but were used by a professional club and off-limits to resorts guests during my stay. (Note to the resort: do not trumpet facilities that are off-limits). The resort also includes tennis courts (two clay) and a basketball court. The only real drawback to the resort is that it is rotten with kids, from which adults simply cannot escape. My advice to the resort would be to designate at least one of the pools or restaurants as "adults only." As things currently stand, there is no place to escape the crying and enjoy a mid-day catnap.

The beauty of the property is not adequately seen from the front or even the back, but from the beach below the cliff. We had an oceanfront room with a balcony. We were actually directly above the pool and a great view of it, too. The room was spacious although the bedspread and decor appears to have been from the 70s. We spent a lot of time at the pool bar and esplanade bar and want to give a big shout out to Vinny & Paulo, both of whom treated us with excellent hospitality daily. The buffet breakfast was a welcome morning fuel source for our cliff hikes and hours on the beaches. It included an array of fruits, vegetables, meats & cheeses and hot items catered to the British. The milk for cereal was warm and the Delta coffee machine was a disgrace to Portuguese coffee, however. A friendly older Portuguese man sanitized every table after guests were finished. Speaking of coffee... There are no coffee pots in the rooms and none in the lobby. Breakfast isn't served until 8AM, so if you want coffee before then, you have to go into Old Town to get a cup. There's an excellent pastelaria, Barhon, just 5 minutes away. One annoying thing about the hotel is access to the property before 8AM. The esplanade entrance is below the lobby. You cannot enter or exit the property from the esplanade until 8AM. Why on earth they have the exit locked until 8AM is beyond me. I'm also not sure what safety implications this has in the event of an emergency.

The rooms and the hotel facilities all need a massive makeover and they need to get beds that are at least as comfortable as the cheapest of the cheap shared room hostels I've been to Seriously hate everything about this place so far

Our children were happy to enjoy time at the mini club with other children, they played tennis, did archery ect. The plus from our week was to discover trapeze. Robin, Michela, Enzo, Josephine and Coco have engaging personalities and are particularly great for making that activity accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels. In the evening, they performed a great show (exceptional skill). In the morning, our Children were enthusiastic to learn new circus skills in a fun and inclusive atmosphere. In the afternoon, adults shared a lot of fun , we had an unforgettable time. Our overall experience was enhanced by the instructors' enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring guests a unique experience. The only negative point is that being so close to the ocean some aquatic activities would be nice.

There are a few supermarkets in the area, although they are a little bit more pricey compared to the bigger superstores. There are a few restuarants dotted about and also some bars and pubs. Sao Raphael has 2 beaches which can be easily accessed by foot or car. The beaches are quite small but the views are breathtaking with cliffs surrounding the beaches. They can get quite busy at weekends as locals chill out here too. It is a good location to spend a holiday in the algarve as you are away from the hustle and bustle of the main town Albufeira but it is close enough to visit if you want nights out and more variety for restaurants.

The staff could never do enough for you, polite, friendly and welcoming in every dealing I had with them. The location was fantastic only 100 metres from the sea with a balcony facing the sea. Breakfast could not be faulted and other meals were very reasonable for a five star hotel. My faith in the big chains has been restored
