We are okay with this swim school here eventhough my daughter has been in their classes for 3 years, level 7 now, and still couldn't swim. My 9 years old girl said she was okay with swimming in small pool, not big pool I talked to her instructor a couple time; they said no, she could swim. And yet, we took her to public swimming pool for 5ft deep; she got scared. Not sure what she has been learning there; so we decided to move her to a different school. We gave them 30 days notice, I spoke with the staff whether we could still do make-up classes after that day. They said fine, those are your classes, you can still take them. The reason I asked for make-up classes because we have like 12 classes when she was out due to medical and vacation. Today I checked to schedule her make up classes and can't. Called and talked to the staff, they said I had to pay $20 to take make up classes. I was like the staff I spoke last time didn't say that; she said I must have talked to a TRAINEE, and that person gave wrong info. OMG! I didn't mean to write a review about my daughter's progress; because every kid is different. But to pay taking make-up classes make no sense to me. We paid when we were out, they promised to honor make-up classes. Then they don't. read more

Updated (3/29/2024) received a call from the school representative regarding the incident a few days after my original review. On the call, the representative initially stated that she was calling regarding the miscommunication incident with a previous manager. After a few minutes, I realized the lady on the call was the same manager we had the encounter with. I was very disappointed. 1) it was not an incident involving a previous manager, it was with herself. 2)I don't understand why Aqua Tots did not assign someone who was not involved in the incident on the investigation. There was miscommunication but most importantly I did not appreciate how my daughter and myself were treated that day. Seems like Aqua-Tots and the manager who was involved are still not hearing my concerns or comments. read more

We enjoy Aqua tots. My toddler loves swimming here. The teachers are pretty patient with him. They always give me a progress report after each swim. It is kind of pricey and the cancellation/rescheduling policy is a little difficult to work around but my son loves it! read more

My son has been attending aqua tots in Katy since he was 10 months, we love it! The coaches and staff are always friendly and knowledgeable and great with the kids! Their scheduling system is easy and efficient which is helpful for our busy family that often has to schedule make ups. The classes are always consistent and both my son and I have learned a lot and made great friends! He's been through 2 levels. Very disappointed with AQUA-TOTS in this location now. I have a soon that attend this location a few years ago and it went fine. Last year though my youngest daughter started attending and it has been a very bad experience. The rotation of instructors is absurd, my daughter has had countless instructors and on some occasions we had to change the day of the week and time of her class because of cancellations, ending up with very inconvenient times. I asked to cancel her registration and I was told there was a 30 days notice, which is absurd. If we are cancelling it means we don't want the services anymore, we've been there for a year, there should be no notice. And on top of that, they want to charge me a yearly charge, because I gave the 30 days notice right at the one year mark. Makes absolute no sense, they know my intention is not to stay another year, I am having my daughter stay additional 30 days because I am being forced to, but an yearly fee on top of that is ludicrous. read more

The school is staffed by high school and college kids with no sign of an adult anywhere. Staff is poorly trained and at times lack equipment. Peeling paint on the walls, light bulbs that have been burned out for over a year, pool temperatures are inconsistent, pool often is cloudy or has debris (hair, bandaids, trash) floating in it, and the list of lack of care or maintenance is too long to list. Save your money, Katy has lots of swim school that are not dumps. read more

They give no notice of cancelled classes - we find out the day before. The instructors are not engaged AT ALL. My son has been coming for 3 months and is no closer to floating on his own - let alone swimming- and they're telling me he needs to advance to the next class because of his age where he swims without an adult. I'm sorry but if your instructors can't even help him learn with us in the pool with him what makes you think I'm trusting my kid in the pool without us? Cancelling because this is a joke. read more

This company offers mediocre swimming lessons from teenagers (or young adults) with bad attitudes, little regard for the children in the pool, bad financial policies, overworked people at the front desk, and a an unhelpful manager who is not interested in improving customer service. I signed up my 2 year-old and 5 year-old for swim lessons. The people at the front desk must have too much work to do, as they were never able to answer questions or even allow me to make a purchase. I was told to get my plastic card for each child from their file. After waiting my turn behind several parents and going through what must have been 75 children's cards, I discovered that my children did not have a card. I was unable to get assistance from the desk because they were always on the phone or or filling out paperwork. I mentioned to one of the swim instructors that my children did not have a card. She told me, "that's not my job. You need to talk to the front desk." The same thing happened the second time we arrived for lessons - still no card, and still unable to speak to either of the women at the desk. Again, I mentioned to one of the swim teachers that my children didn't have a card. This particular instructor was especially rude saying, "MA'AM!! I do not make the cards. You will have to ask the women at the desk." I let her know that I had tried. She let me know that she did not care. My children had two lessons. Because I wasn't able to get any information from the people at the front, I was not aware that I was expected to meet the children at the back near the dressing rooms. I noticed some parents going back there, so I followed. I was met with heavy sighing because the instructors were irritated to have waited an additional 2 or 3 minutes. They made sure to scold me for being tardy. All of the dressing rooms were full and my children were cold. I took them to restroom to change, but there were no rubber mats in that area, so both of my children slipped and fell. For the second lesson, my two year-old was placed with a different instructor from the week prior. This time the group had two children who appeared to be 12 to 18 months older than my child. The new instructor clearly did not care whether my daughter swam or not. While she assisted children in the group individually, my little girl was placed between the two bigger kids who were splashing each other, and in doing so, repeatedly splashing my child's face. My little girl was afraid and crying because of it, and she was ignored. I went in to move her so she would no longer be splashed. Finally the people from the front desk had a moment for me. One of the women came to the pool and told me I had to leave. It was apparently a liability to have a woman of 5'6" near 4' of water, even with 10 instructors in the water. I will say that the woman who removed me from the pool area was far more courteous than anyone else I dealt with at Aqua Tots. My husband contacted the manager thinking he/she would want to know about the problems in order to correct them. He was not interested in hearing about how to improve customer service. I have heard good things about Houston Swim Club in Katy next to Hobby Lobby. You may want to try them instead. read more

This was the worse experience I've ever had. I feel awful for putting my kid through it. I tried to express my concerns when signing up, and he just brushed it off as they were pros and deal with this daily. Nope! They were awful. At the end of his class, the guy who was suppose to be his instructor didn't even acknowledge us!!! Literally talked to every other parent but us!! We have two of our grandchildren, aged 2 and 4, enrolled since early spring. They both love it here and have progressed nicely. Their coach, Lane, is great! I was initial concerned with some of the mixed reviews I read here, but our experience has been very positive. We have done make up sessions during busy times and the experience can be chaotic, so if possible, check for schedules during less hectic times. There are lots of rules to follow, but that has not been a problem for us, since we keep good awareness of their policies. read more

My son started when he was 2.5 and was in level three. It took him a while to graduate his class but I would rather him be able to actually do the skills then just get passed cause he has been in that level too long. Coach Taylor is great. She is wonderful with the kids and has great enthusiasm. I would recommend her highly. My only complaint is the price but for around the area it is average. I think all swim lessons are overpriced in Austin. I have been around lots of swimming programs and this one is by far one of my favorite. They have a great layout and progression to their lessons. You get to see weekly how your child is doing on the progress report and the instructors update you every time. Also I have never had a bad interaction with the front staff. They are always friendly and helpful when I'm scheduling classes. read more

I moved to Katy over the 2017 summer. We looked up swim schools for both of my children, age 2 and 4. Aqua-tots is a very good school for younger children to learn how to swim and get out of a pool. My four year old is learning freestyle and backstroke right now. My two year old is learning freestyle right now. There is plenty of seating for parents and there is a play area for children to play at. read more

We have been coming to this location for couple of months now, so far it is satisfying but the morning instructors are way better than evening. Today, is very cold outside and the facility was not heated to the needed temperature. The staff personnel were in sweaters. My baby was cold today and cried more because of that. read more

This is the first review I have EVER left on any business or service I've received and it's primarily because the customer service and service provided at Aqua Tots Katy is disappointing to say the least. They require 30 days notice for cancellation of classes. I had signed my son up for one month of classes twice a week. I signed a 30 day cancellation notice at the exact time that I signed him up to avoid being charged. The girl who helped me understood that I was only signing him up for one month of classes. It asks on the form what the last day of class will be - I put down the date of his last class. They continued to charge me for two months for one of the two classes because I didn't put down both the Monday date AND the Thursday date that were to be his last classes. I only put down the last class of the last week. When asked for a refund and after WEEKS of waiting I was informed that as a courtesy they would refund me for one month only because I called during that month. Instead of taking responsibility for a miscommunication on the part of one of their employees, they are taking advantage of a customer who was clearly misled. In addition to the patronizing email, they referred to my son as "my daughter" multiple times, indicating further that their service is lacking in more ways than one. It's too bad that this place thinks so little of their customers and treats them like idiots. As my son LOVES the water, was overjoyed to be there, and would've enjoyed himself no matter what. Had I read the reviews, I never would've brought my son here as I can confirm everything that has been said. THAT was my mistake. 10/21/14 UPDATE: After writing my first review I was given a full refund. While I was happy to have received my refund, I was infuriated that my time, energy, and emotion had to be wasted in the process. WELL, I just received an email from Aqua Tots reiterating, in so many words, that they had made "desperate" attempts to resolve the issue and that since they did refund the money even though they had held the spot open because I hadn't cancelled properly which didn't allow them to fill the spots and take money from other families WOULD I CHANGE MY REVIEW FROM YELP to accurately reflect that I did, in fact, receive a full refund. I have been calling the school for 2 days and can't even get through as it just rings and rings and then goes to voice mail. That should have been a red flag! I finally got a hold of them, the girl had to patch me threw to someone else just to get basic information, the next girl kept on telling me to hold on to get answers. I've wanted to like Aqua Tots because the other two swim lessons we've experienced in Katy were not so great (YMCA and Houston Swim Club.) Unfortunately, this was one more experience that was not exceptional. This review is for their parent-child classes. First, the teachers. They are for the most part, emotion-less and expression-less, which is not ideal when teaching young children. This goes for at least the three instructors we've experienced. They don't really explain anything. They just say, next we are going to go under the hippo. But they never explain what to do or how to hold your child or what they should be working on. In every class, a parent will have to ask to get an explanation, and even then, it's less than complete. So they are basically stating unenthused sentences throughout the class and at the end ask for a lackluster high-five. For $75 a month, I'd expect more enthusiasm and more instruction. Plus, every single class is exactly the same, which makes sense to work on the same skills, but couldn't they come up with varied activities? There are several excellent programs in the area for toddlers (not swimming, but in other areas), and they all vary their activities each class. Other comments: The area where kids dry off is very cold, although the pool water is very warm. There is a nice play area with books and toys in the waiting area. They do allow you to make up missed classes, but they do not allow you to cancel and make up a makeup class. This seems fair, but in actuality, it is not if the kid gets sick before the makeup. Also, they have canceled class on us twice in the past two weeks, once because a kid threw up in the water and another time because the a/c was out. They do a more gentle approach to young children - no crying or forced underwater time. The front desk people are less than helpful. The process of signing up for class slots is onerous - you have to wait until exactly one week before the class, then hope that the slot is still available. Maybe they are better with the bigger kids, but I don't see much enthusiasm or interaction between the teacher and those kids either. read more

Do not take ur toddler here. My son is only 2 and he was drowning and none of the instructor even saw him drowning. After the class was over, no one even apologize or even call me to ask of my son was ok. My 2 year old is traumatized of the water and is currently not wanting to swim anymore. read more

Overcrowded, turnover on staff, customer service that doesn't follow through on what they say and on top of that, I'M now teaching my daughter to swim after 4 months here. They closed the pool one night with no warning beforehand due to someone was sick in the pool so they lined up the parents, told us to put our name on a list and we would be called for a makeup. No one EVER called or even apologized for the wasted trip here and good luck getting someone on the phone. Two of our coaches, coach Tony and coach Ashley were great and COULD have made a difference but they were not here and a couple of the coaches we had were just snotty, rude and even mean to the kids. read more

I have been here for three lessons (one of which was a free introductory lesson) and I should have picked up on the lack of organization that this place runs on from that moment. I guess I was forgiving and patient... And willing to give them another chance... And another chance... But today was it! My 3 year old son's instructor doesn't seem to smile much and plays with them more than I'd like for her to. I pay for them to instruct my child, not play. My daughter (age 5) has an instructor who smiles more and seems lovely enough to make me smile too, but this place just doesn't do it for me. I'd much rather deal with the chaos that some of the other swim clubs have going on instead of this so-called business that they're running. My kids love it because they see it as playtime in the water, but the service is HORRIBLE, there is no METHOD to ANY of their MADNESS, and quite frankly I think I teach my kids more at my own neighborhood pool than they do here. If you can avoid this place, please do so. It's more of a headache than it is a lifesaver! Oh yeah! The manager has had issues keeping her classes covered with instructors and I've seen her move kids around to other time slots without notifying the parents. Then, when parents ask about the ordeal she gets upset as if they don't have a right to ask. Pft! No service skills and she never apologizes. It's always someone else's fault... read more

My son goes here and loves it. He's in the third level of classes here and his growth and learning has been tremendous. He's been going here for about 7-8 months now and it's incredible how much of a better swimmer he's gotten to be from being here. The instructors are very kid friendly but younger (I'd say no older than 20) and they deal with approx 3-4 kids during each session but they do well. They have a pretty straight-forward curriculum they follow with each class and it seems to work. I can see the progression in other kids and, to me, that's what matters. You can watch the class as it goes on so there's nothing you don't see that doesn't go on. For that, there's no better feeling than seeing your child achieve goals and being able to celebrate it as they happen. read more

We have been coming to this aqua tots for about 3 years. My son started as a non swimmer. He went through a couple phases the worst was having a fear of the water. Now he is a great swimmer thanks to Jean Paul and aqua tots. He has had JP for the majority of his time at Aqua tots which is awesome. My son loves his teacher. I love that the temperature of the water is warm and the pool area is enclosed with humidity so he is not cold and he can focus on learning. He is 5 and currently working on technique. IF YOU ARE THINKING TO SING UP YOUR CHILD PLEASE READ THIS !! This place is nothing that a mess. I have my child for 1 year in swimming clases at level 3 and couple of months later she started to get boring at class because of the same exercises again and again. She knew how to perform all the exercises from beginning to end. That's when we ask to get her evaluated since she was 1 year at the same level and we didn't see any progress on her swimming performs. We ask several times with the front desk staff WICH IS NOT VERY FRIENDLY AT ALL and NOT DILIGENT AT ALL, and their response was that she is going to get evaluated the next class. Well, week after week has been the same and nobody never knew and nobody never makes any notes on what we discuss last time. For everyone who is thinking about enrolling their child in this "school" just make sure you read what you sign. After a first "lesson" yesterday I realized that they do not provide the quality expected for a 30 minute lesson they were supposed to provide. Since the instructor is not experienced enough to teach to the group of 4 kids, she had to go one by one...so my daughter only spent 5 minutes with the instructor..ok maybe 6 minutes. Perhaps that's how it is everywhere else...I don't know, but at any rate I decided not to let me daughter continue and go somewhere else, and when I asked for a refund the manager told me on the phone that since my wife signed some sort of an agreement, we will not be getting any of the $200 we paid...nada....yes $200 to someone's pocket without providing anything. My advice to you is READ what you sign...DO NOT trust this business..they DO NOT care about you or your kids...all they care is about MAKING MONEY in anyway possible.... read more
