Their trashy plants gave my tank Black Beard Algae, which is what happens when you grow them in a tank with a bunch of disgusting fish crapping all over everything. I was very impressed with this store, my first time today and my favorite [and only] place to get future stock! The young man that helped me was wonderful and I have 8 new lovely guppies in my family :-) I don't mind having to wear a mask AT ALL because I wear one anyway! I have health issues and for those that mind it, it's seems like a minor concession to make because there must be a good reason. I went to this store to buy fish a while back. They still require masks but that really doesn't bother me at all. They were really nice and answered all my questions and I walked out of there with some nice fish. If you are an anti-masker then this store probably isn't for you. Unacceptable Treatment and Unprofessional Conduct - October 4, 2024 My visit here on October 4, 2024, was disappointing and highlighted a disturbing lack of professionalism, respect, and consistency. Upon entering the store at approximately 11:10 a.m., I held the door open for a UPS delivery person carrying a large package who was not wearing a mask. Shortly thereafter, I was confronted by a male employee who demanded that I wear a mask. Due to a hearing impairment from my military service, I initially couldn't fully understand the employee, but as I got closer, he made his demand clear. I informed him that I am medically exempt from wearing a mask due to health conditions related to my military service. Since mask mandates are no longer in effect, I do not carry an exemption letter anymore. I also noted that I had not seen any signage inside or outside the store stating masks were mandatory. Despite explaining my medical exemption, the employee immediately became aggressive, following me around the store, yelling at me to leave, and refusing to allow me to clarify. He disregarded my rights, interrupted me, and made degrading comments, including calling me a "goof." He openly admitted that he didn't care about legal implications or how his actions might affect the business, stating the worst that could happen was him losing his job. As someone with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), this behavior triggered significant emotional distress. The employee's hostile actions and invasive approach left me feeling discriminated against and humiliated. When I walked away to de-escalate the situation, the employee began recording me on his phone and called the police, giving them a description of me and my vehicle. When two police officers arrived, I spoke to them outside the store while the employee remained inside. Notably, neither officer was required to wear a mask or face covering while inside the store, a clear inconsistency given the treatment I was subjected to over my medical exemption. To address the owner's reply to my initial review on google: The claim that there were "multiple large signs" about mask requirements is unsubstantiated. I saw none upon entering the store. The statement that I was yelling, cursing, and threatening staff is completely false. At no point did I use profanity or make threats; rather, I was trying to explain my medical exemption while being shouted over and insulted. I was not "escorted out" by police, as claimed. The officers and I spoke calmly outside, and I left voluntarily after obtaining a police file number. The dismissive comment about masks not affecting hearing ("P.S. Masks go over your mouth and nose, not your ears...") is not only inappropriate but also highlights a lack of understanding of how hearing impairments work, particularly when combined with C-PTSD and a high-stress environment. This experience reflects poorly on the business's approach to accommodating individuals with disabilities and medical conditions. The employee's aggressive conduct, the inconsistent enforcement of the mask policy (particularly with the UPS worker and police), and the owner's unprofessional, dismissive response demonstrate a serious lack of respect for customers. I would caution anyone, especially those with disabilities, against visiting this establishment. read more

This store is nice, they seem to have a great selection of fish and the staff are all very friendly. For some reason they still enforce wearing a mask in the store though which is weird, but maybe it's for personal health reasons or something. I'm not sure if the owner is playing politics or just strait up virtue signaling. After mask mandates have finally been lifted by the city, this establishment still insists everyone who enters wheres a mask. They also don't accept mask exception. Healthy fish and informed staff. If you are looking for something special for your aquarium come here. They have a fantastic variety of live plants. This is the only place I go for live plants. Amazing betta and discus! Only place in town I was able to find healthy Discus and they are amazing. Very nice staff that don't bug you while you admiring/deciding on fish. Helpful with suggesting plants you won't kill as well. read more

Bar none the best local fish store in the city. If their fish cost 50 cents more than chain stores - know that you are paying for outstanding quality fish that have been quarantined to prevent losses. The staff are super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. Also very helpful with questions and testing you tanks perimeters. You know you're at a quality establishment when they care about the fish. If you have a tank that you just set up today - chances are you'll be going to Petland for your fish, cause a good fish store actually cares about their fish! read more

I've been keeping fish, off and on, for over forty years, in four different cities, and visited aquarium shops in several others. Aquarium Central stands out as the best overall combination of reasonable prices for outstanding quality, a very large and well-chosen variety of fish and plants, decently displayed in the space and facilities available. It's not a fancy, sparklingly-clean boutique shop, with all the messy details of everyday fish-keeping and quarantine hidden-in-the-back, thousand dollar+ display tanks, and astronomical pricing. I visited Aquarium Central just last weekend and I was very impressed with the service and the knowledge of the staff . This is one of the best places to get all your aquarium products and aquarium fishes. They have a great selection rare fishes and as well as common ones. Also they carry a great selection of plants. Most of their fishes are very healthy when I visited Aquarium Central. This place is a must to visit if you are a pro at the aquarium hobby or if your just starting into this hobby or if you just want to start an aquarium yourself. They have staff that are courteous and knowledgeable to help you start an aquarium. read more

What I like about Aquarium Central is their variety of stock---they got many kinds of fish species---sometimes rare and unusual fish. However, on quite a few of their tanks, they label "Not For Sale!", with an exclamation mark. This is kind of disconcerting for the customer. I can understand having a couple of temporary holding tanks for quarantining new fish, but why publicly display so many quarantine tanks if you're not ready to sell the fish yet? Quarantine them out-of-sight first, like in the back of the store or in another facility. The service is ok, depending on who is helping you. The central location is good, away from the bustle of the west-end or downtown. read more

This store is amazing. After several failed attempts to start a discus tank I finally broke down and bought my discus at Aquarium Central. They were more expensive but man were they worth it! The discus you'd get from a place like Big Al's were mere skeletons compared to the monsters I bought from Aquarium Central. I bought seven and they've all grown into beautiful healthy fish. Whenever i need anything for my aquarium I always check Aquarium Central before anywhere else. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and their stock is the healthiest in the city. They also have a wide range of aquatic pharmaceuticals. If you aren't trying to buy your fish here first then you are a fool. Cannot recommend this place enough. read more

Although the fish were of decent quality and prices the same, I was very disappointed. The employees did not come across as professional with how they spoke, coarse language included especially in the presence of a young child. The information I was given, was completely incorrect and many of the tanks were mislabelled. A sick fish was fed to another fish which again was not at all professional, nor is it healthy for any fish. Dead fish, sick fish, dying fish, and the lack of the understanding and care of said fish will have me avoid Aquarium Central. read more

Surprised on their selection of rarer fish. I was kinda disappointed when I heard they weren't gonna sell Reptiles.
