If you go to their website they say they have food for lots of animals: cats, reptiles, dogs, birds, fish, small animals and rodents... but when you actually go I would say that they mostly have food for cats, dogs, and birds. For birds all I noticed was Armstrong and Sunseed, nothing else in store. I'm just super hung up on the name right now because I don't think a place should be called "Global" if it only caters to the common animals. No rats or worms! This place is not reptile friendly at all. I was kind of miffed because I live down the street so it would have been cool if it was. The staff seemed really confused when I asked about the reptile section... they said they don't really carry that stuff. This is when I got hung up on the name. I also just don't find their prices to be competitive at all. If anything it is on the expensive side. Greenies, for example, are almost $2 more expensive here than they are at Petland. This is why I don't really find this place to be anything special. They do have a bomb selection of animal clothing though. So I bought a winter jacket for my naked cat. Now he can be warm!

Sanitizer at the door, they moved the most popular kitty litter next to the door, so I didn't have to make 2 trips down the aisle to get my litter this time. Either they aren't busy, or the times I go are great because I only seem to encounter a couple of customers when I go. Last year I picked up a super sized mug that says Dog Dad - c'mon, how many Dog Dad things have you EVER seen?! They have some unique gifts and the mug turned out to be PERFECT for his microwave noodle soups. Yesterday I noticed that self-serve dog wash is now by appointment only. Sensible so they can control the people and cleaning needed. I also picked up an absolutely gorgeously decorated doggie Hanukkah/Chanuka cookie for a friend's pup! Paws up! We like this shop.

They are knowledgeable about the products they sell and are able to give useful advice. Aside from the great service, they unfortunately do not have the best selection of rabbit food (or any "selection" whatsoever). They sell one brand of pellets and generic timothy hay. While I prefer other brands of pellets, I have bought theirs in a pinch. The biggest problem is they are consistently low on stock. I I've come in some days to find they are completely out of hay and litter. I know rabbits are more of a specialty pet than cats or dogs but regardless, no one wants to drive all the way to the store to find they don't have any supplies. I stop by when I'm in the area, but it isn't worth making the trip there for me. I'm sure cat and dog owners don't have this same issue with Global. In fact, they have a really good selection of organic/specialty canned dog foods. I picked up some "thanksgiving" dinners for my family's pooch not too long ago and he loved them.

Petland is a Canadian company so that's great if you prefer to shop Canadian. There are also signs on any items that are Canadian manufactured which is a great touch. The store is nicely organized, clean and brightly lit. The selection is really nice. I found it easy to find what I was looking for. Definitely sign up for the pets club since the discounts on items are worth it. It does seem pricier than some other stores - but if you don't mind paying a dollar or two more to support Canadian this is definitely worth checking out.
